I Think I Heard a Pussy Cat!

While confirming my e-mail address for Crowdshout (a social activism app), I noticed an e-mail announcing another app. If I had an iPhone, I could brush up on my Spanish and have the instructors be cats.
"CatAcademy Presents CatSpanish"
Meow, meow, meow...amigo...hiss,hiss,meow.

CatAcademy is planning to offer this app for other languages including Portuguese and German.

Birds who preen in the nest of another.....

Also, a shout out to all the women who respect that "taken" men are off limits.
A shout out to the men who truly pay no mind to brazen hussies.
Some women need to get higher ambitions, self-esteem and morals.

Operation Jilted Pilgrim....

I have decided that holiday preparations will now have codenames. This year, my Mother passed away in September and my siblings and I are each clinging to our respective families at Thanksgiving. It is important to me to have nostalgic holidays this year but it seems the weight of putting anything together is all on me so far. Husband is trying to help but he is not one for holidays. Our roommate would rather we observe "The Red Man's Day of Mourning" and I think she suggested we do that with her the day after. The pilgrim is being pushed away hard...Operation Jilted Pilgrim.

Yesterday evening we strung up some Christmas lights. These were the first that Infant has seen and she was amazed. Toddler was so happy that he was sticking out his tongue as he smiled. This reminded me of the hours that my father spent with the lights each year (when people repaired their lights and stored them carefully vs. nonchalantly buying new). We are old school about lights due to sentimentality, respect for the environment and...quite frankly, a very tight budget.
We are still using lights from about a decade ago. :-)

I wanted gherkins as they were required on the relish trays of my childhood. Husband accidentally got small dills (a confusion that has occurred in holidays past). This year the thought occurred to me that there must be a way to turn store-bought dills into sweet pickles...thus, I an working on a batch of "Cheater Sweet Pickles."  I found several recipes using store-bought dills to make sweet pickles but this one is so easy...just dill pickles and sugar. I tasted a small slice after the initial stirring and the process seems to be working. I think these are going to be good.

Next year:
-----A continuous border of turkeys on the walls all the way around the interior of the house. At changing levels for fun.
-----Loveless Cafe's Southern Mac N' Cheese recipe. I will have to make another kind for those who don't like or have a sensitivity to blue cheese. This will be one of the few times that anything like Velveeta is in my house.

Sunday Stealing Meme.....

1. What do you have for breakfast on Thanksgiving?
I don't particularly pay attention. This year I will as it is our first year without my Mother and I am sentimental about everything.

2. Do you go to a Thanksgiving parade or watch one on TV?
Sometimes TV. Sometimes neither. Now that Toddler is old enough to watch, we will probably try to find it online...we don't always wake up that early.

3. Do you serve appetizers, lunch, or snacks during the day?
Snacks. Of course, there is sampling as we cook the various dishes.

4. What are the traditional favorites?
Tons of relish tray stuff, enchiladas, unusual stuffings, duck

5. What new recipes will you try this year?
Loveless Cafe's cranberry sauce that has whiskey in it (I have been saving a small amount of whiskey that a friend left at our house...only a tablespoon is needed and I have about a cup). The Banana Split Dessert that my Mother used to make....it has cornflakes and is very yummy. A German Cucumber Salad (Gurkensalat). Some sort of simple rice side dish.

6. What part of the meal do you never compromise?
The relish trays....a carryover from when I was growing up.

7. Who gets to carve the turkey?
Husband and he says the blessing.

8. Family style around the table or buffet style and everyone sits wherever there’s room?
Just depends on how many people.

9. How many will be at your table this year?
Unknown

10. Once you're at the table, do you say grace or a toast or does everyone go around and say what they're thankful for?
Grace and a toast. A lot of people are rather awkward about emotions...like saying what they are thankful for.

11. Cranberry sauce… yay or nay?
Yes....homemade.

12. What time do you eat Thanksgiving Dinner?
Varies. 2pm-ish this year...but we are calling it "Dinner."

13. Three best pies for Thanksgiving dessert?
Blueberry and Mincemeat. I would really like it if my Mother were here to make a mincemeat pie (she passed away in September and will be missed).

14. Do you have dessert right after the main meal or later on?
Later. This year, there will be an even later treat for Toddler....we are making the Hamburg Inn 2's Blueberry Pie Milkshake (a blender activity).

Participate in Sunday Stealing. Yes, I am encouraging stealing. :-)

The State of My Feelings.....

I am beginning to wonder if this society really believes there is such a thing as Love anymore.
If people do believe in Love, it is clear than many only want to receive it
And never truly Give it.

The Mystery of Underwear.....

Truth be told, I have long wondered what all those undergarments that the young girls wear to give the (on-first-glance)appearance of slimness are. I guess the secret is Seamless shape wear.

During the time that I took to look at the Unbelievabra site for the Best Body shaper, my interest in this kind of thing became increased due to the results of my latest endocrinologist visit. My thyroid has been trying to die out for several years now, I started out as a small person and I am grateful for that....making the weird, sudden weight gains not as bad as they could be. Still I have not been feeling well and have gained eleven pounds during that time. I will be exercising as much as I can without the fatigue that is a symptom setting in and maybe looking at buying some shaping garments for my self-esteem (if the sudden weight gains of about ten pounds become a trend as they have in the past).

The above product is a "Silkee Long Minimizer." It is what I am most interested in out of all the products I looked at on the Shapeez/Unbelievabra site. I think it would be the most comfortable option that would do the most overall shaping without wearing the slip that is sold on this site.
---The underwire cup could be good or bad....just depending on what one is wearing. It seems that could add an extra level of confinement or restraint that might get uncomfortable with some clothing. Despite claims you will forget you are wearing it, I am skeptical with a few garments that have bodices, etc. in the chest area. It may help that there is also a molded foam cup option.
---On the positive side, the way this garment is constructed makes it so those who are big-chested don't have to worry about cup sizes appearing to be added.
---The "Silkee Short Minimizer" seems to be this company's version of an actual bra. In this case, picking out the Best Bra can be a bit different than expected...sizes might be different without all the closures and so on...there is a sizing guide and videos.
---"Look thinner instantly." The looking thinner is supposed to help the clothed appearance of one's waist, tummy, hips and back.
---There is a no roll hem. In general, the garment does not look like it will bunch up under clothing.
---Limited color choices: Nude and Black
---I don't know if more colors are needed than just nude and black. I noticed that almost every product on this site only comes in these colors.
---"Straps will never fall down."

All of the Unbelievabra products are made in the USA. :-)

-----Mmmm....Virginia ham. Listening to a lecture on the Cuban Missile crisis and finding that Kennedy could be a very, very strategic man. Figuring out Thanksgiving is in the back of my head.
-----So, we really need to catch up on Revolution (Season 2). We saw the season premiere and then did not return to it in the chaotic-ness that has been life.

-----Dr. Pepper Meatloaf
-----Sweet Pepper Meat Loaf. Quiet the list of ingredients. This is going on this month's menus. Besides, we need to get a new container of Cajun seasoning...Husband used profuse amounts of it for homemade trail mix when attending Unified Underground Festival.

-----Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Blueberry Sauce

Random:
-----A fainting couch as a headboard...now that's a cool idea. From the cover of a Natali Imbruglia CD. I could care less about the rest of the CD but that idea was pretty cool.
