Looking through blog things from a year ago and I saw when Texas passed that part of Highway 130 could have an 85-mph speed limit (the rest of it is all at least 80). That must be going well as Googling reveals no complaints. I hope I never accidentally get on that road.
---It is called "The Pickle Parkway" for some reason.
~~~~~ Ah. Pickle Parkway after J.J. Pickle. A Representative who served Austin for 30-some years.
In My Life.....
-----Listening to a band I vaguely remember called Vallejo. Instrumentals are nice and loud. Hmmm. Uncertain what I think. Young and somewhat streetwise young men. Album was I should look and see how they have changed (if they still exist).
-----Little One might remember this toy used to play music....needs new batteries. She is complaining at the musical(music-less) part.
-----I sure wish that my Android had not gone missing. It really made a lot of aspects of my life easier...too expensive to replace for now. I signed up for Jingit but it seems like it will be a while until I am able to get the debit card that gives you access to earnings. Sigh. Like many things it seems this would go much smoother if there were use of a smartphone involved....meanwhile I still have to pay for a data plan on the Android I don't have. Double sigh.
-----I still can't pronounce Goethe properly...but I keep trying. I have taken to sending Husband German love poems (so beautiful).
-----Right now my hair detangling spray is a good friend. I am in need of a haircut but can't justify spending the money in light of other expenses. Maybe I can get an in-law to cut my hair the next visit. I wish I could convince my very artistic husband that he has the talent necessary to do a haircut.
¿Cómo se dice?
How do you say?
Language is a big part of our lives right now. We have been busy teaching our children three languages (English, German and Spanish). I have been trying to encourage someone to work as a translator for a while now (you, yes you, I wish you felt confident enough to do it). Plus, it seems that all of my friends are deciding to learn German,too.
Anyway, I was looking at the Rosetta Translation Services site this evening. I have used some of the free translation services of other companies when material is too big for Google and I don't have someone on hand to figure out whatever language quickly. Rosetta Translation Services is a professional translation agency that covers all major languages.
---Rosetta Translation Services specializes in document translation for business and commercial texts. Since the company does legal, financial, medical & technical translations, I am sure this has saved embarrassment and confusion on many crucial occasions (and there are probably a few funny stories).
---The section of the Rosetta site that talks about the technology this translation service uses was interesting. The (willing) data mining of a company's documents to create a growing database actually reminds me of the real life way a person would go about learning a language.
---This company is on both Twitter and Facebook. :-) There is also an e-mail newsletter.
-----Language peeve: I haven't been able t find the inverted question mark for Spanish on this computer. So many other languages are adequately represented! Hopefully, I am just missing it (a lot of the characters are hard to decipher). I had to copy and paste from a Wikipedia entry to get the punctuation mark at the beginning of this post's title.
Curious as a Cat Meme.....
1) What was the last piece of classical music you listened to, and how long ago was that?
Hmm. I can't remember specifically. I guess I can remember more things that are close to being classical music (off the top of my head). In 2002, I used to listen to Carmina Burana set to music. Earlier today my son and I listened to the Song of the Volga Boatmen.
2) If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a full season, which one would you choose?
I really don't watch TV anymore. Our TV hasn't been hooked up for a month. I don't even currently like any TV shows.
3) House, office, car: which would you clean first?
House. We are currently sorting through all (not kidding) of our possessions. I think I am starting to become the queen of downsizing, giving away and making due with what I have...and that has made me happy.
4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
This reminds me of how much I would like to travel overseas. I particularly want to see some of the land formations overlooking the waters (Greece,Scotland). It made sense from the architecture that this is a photo of an ancient library.
