Thursday Thirteen.....

1. The times we live in:
-----A man has robbed a bank to get medical care.
-----Internet French Kissing Machine.

2. On September's menu:
-----Peach Vinaigrette Salad Dressing.  The only ingredient we should have to get is the peach. I am not sure what salad we will put this with.
-----Three Bean Horseradish Baked Beans. 11 of the ingredients are things that we normally keep on hand.
-----Coconut Blueberry Cake. If we continue to stock the pantry properly, the only things that we will have to buy are the blueberries and a lemon (to grate the peel).

My Life in a Blog Book Promo from Bob Adams on Vimeo.
A new book. Among the discussions is "coming to Church as you are." I have seen people either ostracized or kicked out for actually following that invitation from some churches.

5. 3 Day online community for Christian gamers.

Not Even Death.  June 26, 2011. Galesburg, IL.

 As We Grow
Raising Olives

Marco Polo's involvement with pasta is a myth in some way? I must investigate.

Off now has a clip-on mosquito repellent (so you don't have to spray).

10.  To Whom It Concerns:
-----Dear Legacy Visa....I will not be accepting a card that charges a 29 percent interest rate and starts out by paying you. No thanks.
-----Yuck. I understand being proud of child's poopy in the toilet. Must you post a photo of them smiling next to it on Facebook? My poor brain

Flower arrangement at in-laws. The photo is tilted sideways because I like it better that way.

Some of the ingredients for "Summery Avocado BLTs" that we made. :-)

13. Registering nipples as a weapon?
---Drunken Ohio Woman Sprays Authorities With Breast Milk. I find the breast milk part of what she did humorous (though I would not want to be sprayed with any sort of bodily fluid). I hope she is able to get the help that she feels is needed.
---This is not the first "breast milk assault" and I am sure it will not be the last. In 2010, another law enforcement officer was squirted (and had to go through a "bio-hazard decontamination process"). When I was posting about this particular incident on Facebook, the thumbnail for the breast milk assault came up with an image of William and Kate.

In My Life.....

-----So far, 3 of the 4 tomatoes bushes are doing well. The clump of basil plants is excellent. Blueberries are doing alright. Looks like we will get a few raspberries and will have to move the (many) bushes to where there is more sunlight for next year. Last year my blackberry bush was about 10 inches high....this year it is six bushes and they are around 5 feet high!
-----Trying to cut some/all of the high fructose corn syrup out of my diet. So MANY things have it....including the rye bread we buy, the pumpernickel we buy and Ritz crackers.

Petition to get Mattel to stop using a company that destroys rainforests.
"Rainforests are torn down and turned into paper products, while the empty land is converted into pulpwood plantations.
Critical wildlife habitat and carbon-rich rainforests and peatlands are being wrecked by APP and its suppliers for cheap, throw-away toy packaging."

-----Glad to read that Sean Bean ("Lord of the Rings") is alright. I saw that he was stabbed but had the volume muted at the time.
-----Natalie Portman had a baby boy.

I like this dress by Vecona.
I have seen it labeled as a "steampunk bride's dress."
It was featured in Gothic Beauty Magazine recently.

Vecona store logo graphic.
I like the peacock feather hair adornment.

Master Chef USA
Season 2, Episode 1 & 2

-----There was a lady auditioning who was wearing a tiara.
-----I cannot find any info about the crates of vegetables that were in the background. The label says "Venerable."

~~~ Coconut-Curry Lentil Stew Served Over Quinoa. This recipe is vegan and gluten-free.
~~~ Coconut Red Lentil Soup.

-----I have never tasted a real curry. I do not count the curry that I have tasted at a fast food oriental restaurant or the curry that I had at an Indian buffet.
-----I have not cooked with sriracha.  I have tasted it at plenty of Oriental restaurants. I know that sriracha is often used as a glaze for Buffalo Chicken Wings and wonder what that would taste like.
-----(Recipes involving making/using sriracha will go here.)
-----After this I will remember how to spell "sriracha."
-----Raspberries, salmon,chipotle,grits. That had to be an interesting taste. I have tried and cannot imagine these flavors working together....BUT every dish has an off day. The ingredient that I can't wrap my head around is the raspberries.
-----I did not like the comment that Gordon made about Alice D'Antoni Phillips' age. I am glad that this comment did not make it to airing. I found Alice's Facebook page-"What's For Dinner? Ally's Kitchen."
-----Kiln, Mississippi. I had never heard of it. Kiln is near Biloxi. There is a group on Facebook that posts Old Biloxi recipes.
-----Jambalaya With Alligator and Sausage. Has Albert actually tasted toad? I am cheering for Masterchef to at least make the life of this Katrina-survivor better.
-----(Racoon recipes will go here.)
-----Rattlesnake recipes will go here.)
-----(Bobcat recipes will go here.) I have a relative who thinks they saw a bobcat in their forest....I doubt it occurred to them that it could be an entree.
-----(Possum recipes and a discussion of why one would dislike eating possum will go here.)
-----Nice line about your hope for the "Shipwreck Stew," Joe. :-)
-----If I were a fireman, I would try to avoid burning anything on the show...just invites a comment.

-----We got to see the lady with the tiara.
-----Did they really show Christine's father pulling the skin off that squirrel?
-----Soft Shell Crab With Cream Polenta and Coleslaw
-----Not good when your dish smells bad.
-----Homemade chorizo

-----There are several recipes for Redneck Sushi on the internet. Hmmm.
~~~ A humorous example of Redneck Sushi.
-----It would be cool to see a molecular gastronomist as the next MasterChef.
-----Why does it seem easier for them to have a comraderie with the men?
The Dalai Lama will be a guest on MasterChef Australia. Being a "judge," in the strictest sense of the word, goes against his religious beliefs. The spaghetti photo for this story amused me. :-)
This post is a work-in-progress. :-)
-----Gothic Martha Stewart
-----Three Bean Horseradish Baked Beans. On our September menu. These will be done in the slow cooker. Contains 11 ingredients that we normally have on hand....12, if you include water. :-)
