In My Life....

-----I just sent for the Carol's Daughter catalog. I have never tried anything by them. In case you don't know they sell haircare, beauty and skincare products....natural products. The different parts of the Black Vanilla Haircare Collection sound interesting. The catalog could take 30 days to get here (that part is kind of yucky).
-----I am taking antibiotics. Husband told me that I should eat yogurt for about a week after I finish them. I have never heard that before.
-----Some nice gemstone beads from Auntie's Beads came in the mail. Amethyst and some other beads. Husband is going to make jewelry from them and I will be blogging the pieces. I need to get the beads back for a bit so I can show people what they look like.
-----Yesterday I was at Walmart (the store I both protest and shop) and actually found Axe Fever (known as Lynx Fever in the UK) Body Wash. Walmart had just started carrying it. I mentioned here that I wanted to know what the dragonfruit smelled like (since I love dragonfruit). Someone, I will have to look up who, mentioned that there children used something dragonfruit-scented and it smelled like bubble gum. Of course, I had to stop Husband on our way to get my prescription so that we could see how it smelled. It did smell sort of like bubble gum....but also sort of like nothing we had ever smelled before. Husband says he would not use it. I might try using it....if I can find a sample/trial size. Whether I like it or not depends on how gender neutral it smells. Watch the maracas video.....hilarious.
-----I found a pomegranate soap. I am pomegranate-obsessed. :-) I will likely buy this one. I hope that it does not have anything that bothers my allergies (I have a problem with most,if not all, rose soaps for instance). I might try the lime basil soap, too.

The quickest way that I have ever seen to remove the pomegranate seeds. I would have a container that I was going to throw away (no washing after) or layer bunch of newspaper, etc. to throw the more obviously removed from the seed pieces. I don't like straining and sifting throw floating messes....so,for me, the more I can cut down on that the better.

Maracas

This ad is PG-13ish. It is funny. Lynx Fever is a shower gel with Brazilian Hot Mud and Red Dragonfruit extract. I wonder what it smells like and if it is the Dragonfruit that imparts the scent. I want to smell it some time. I don't know if it is manly-scented (or even scented at all)...but I might use it myself. It being dermatologically tested was the final selling point for me...and the ad made me laugh.

The Lynx line of products is made by Unilever and is very popular in the UK. In the United States, Lynx is known as "Axe" (as in the body spray)... and it does come in "Fever." As it is pretty reasonably priced, I will be heading to a drugstore sometime soon so that Husband can test this and I can smell it.

Have you tried Lynx/Axe Fever?

What I'm Wishing For.... :-)

This week we were to tell about the new pill we would want to have invented. The pill did not have to be something that could actually be created.

My answer:
I would want a "do-over pill"...and I would share it with a few politicians.

____________________

Other things I want:
-----To visit Dollywood. I want to go on there new SkyZip ride. Multiple ziplines in the Smokey Mountains. I also want to safely see a bear in Smokey Mountains National Park.
-----To write a nice Christmas letter this year. I will write a version of my Christmas letter for the blogosphere, too.
-----To visit Graceland. For some reason, I want to make leaf rubbings of the Fall leaves there...a souvenir that would suit me.
-----To have Hogan's Heroes remade into a movie. I would want it done in a way that was not offensive to Germans/other people in WWII.We have the complete series that we have been slowly watching....and then passing on to my Mother (who is very ill and likes them to pass the time). TVLand.com has a rotating schedule of episodes that you can watch for FREE. I discovered that I had this want thanks to the last "I Want Wednesday" that I participated in.
-----More storage containers....lots more. I am especially longing for refrigerator and closet containers.
-----A dehydrator. To make different kinds of jerky. I am intrigued by jerky made out of salmon.
-----To buy a case of Blu Frog (energy drink) for Summer guests. This is if they stay long enough for them to be enjoyed. I like the flavor much more than Red Bull. Unique.
-----More farm-fresh eggs. I have found someone to buy them from and need to call to start arranging pick-ups. Maybe I will tell people I am subscribing to farm-fresh eggs. :-)
-----To find if the song Judd Nelson sang about wanting to be an Airborne Ranger is a real song. If so, I want to learn the lyrics.
-----The series "The Chopping Block" to have another season.
-----To get a big thick chopping block like they use at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America).
-----To find a medieval-looking dress that coordinates with my green Marvin the Martian fisherman's hat.
-----Purchase a mosquito trap called a "Mosquito Magnet" for the grill area. The Mosquito Magnet traps the mosquitos for 200 feet! Until I get my Mosquito Magnet, I need to purchase some citronella-candle topped garden stakes to put around the yard. I do not like the smell of citronella.
-----To avoid catching the Swine/summer Flu.
-----To try a lot of grilling recipes this Summer....especially marinades. I have been collecting different marinades whenever I see a clearance or sale at the grocery.
-----To try linguini with clam sauce. Both the red and the white sauce.
-----To attend the BlogHer and SXSW Conferences within the next few years.
-----To attract a lot of bees to my yard (fairly safe bees only). I am trying to do my part to fight Bee Collapse. Next year we plan to start beekeeping.
-----This Iron Butterfly Baseball Cap. I would also like to see a video that actually looks like Elvis singing Inna-Gadda-di-Vida.....I think he would have been awesome at singing this. I wrote an e-mail to Iron Butterfly telling them that they should do this.
-----To visit at least one zoo and one amusement park this summer. Hopefully on a non-rainy day. I always seem to show up at the amusement park on a rainy day.
-----To take a cruise to somewhere warm. Cliche but true wish. I also plan on a whale-watching cruise to New England/Alaska.
-----To play Bossaball. I do not know of anywhere in the United States that offers this game. I hope I am in better shape the first time that I play.
-----To find ways of eating meat that cause less strain on the environment.
-----To have a complete lapidary equipment setup.
-----To redecorate the bathroom. As soon as I get the motivation to start this, I can change it to "I am in the process of redecorating the bathroom." The only decoration our bathroom has right now is the mirror, shower curtain and one pretty soap bar.
-----A new stock pot set. I want to make sure that this set is made better (last did not take to prolonged periods of heat...I kid you not). I also want it to be the correct width/height proportion to not have soup evaporate quickly.
-----A claw-foot tub
-----A rubber duckie. I have told Husband that they have rubber duckies at the dollar store. I am going to drop this "hint" to Husband again.
-----This Kool-Aid Man hoodie.
-----To read a graphic novel called "Nixon's Pals" about a man who is a parole officer for super heroes.
-----To learn both freehand and string glowsticking.
-----Replace a necklace chain that I am allergic to.Repair a couple that have broken.
-----Purchase and board a horse. Or at least go horseback riding with the same horse on a regular basis. Learn how to saddle/care for a horse. There is an equestrian school that I really want to attend.
-----To make another Kiva investment (micro-business loans to third-world countries).
-----To open a coffee shop....obviously.
-----More home barista equipment.
-----To go Zorbing.
-----To go on a hot air ballon ride. Every time I have tried, the weather has thwarted me.
-----To get more intense w/my urban farming efforts.
-----To get a truck....because we have to borrow one a lot when hauling manure and the like.
-----To get my Phd.
-----Finish paying off this laptop. I have no idea how much I have left to pay.
-----Get the proper set-up and repairs done for my guitars. Then learn how to play them. I need a boogie bag for all but one.
-----To watch every video on FoodTube.
-----To get a working record player.
-----To put down tiles on the floor of the kitchen sink cabinet...we always seem to be breaking the same pipe and this would be better for the wood. I got this idea from "The Itty Bitty Kitchen Handbook" by Justin Spring.
-----People to keep my Mother in their thoughts and prayers. She has Stage 4 Breast Cancer,Diabetes,Had a Heart Attack and has a host of other health problems. Please think/pray about her if you can.
_______________

Something I wanted that I got...a dishwasher! Still haven't used because we have to get a sink adapter. Eventually it will be hooked up via a permanent pipe under the sink.

-----Neat moment in history. Human Statue of Liberty.
-----If you must eat bacon and other processed meats (and, for myself,I insist on doing it once-in-a-while), then there are ways to make it a little bit healthier. I agree with the author about the Jenny O-Lean Turkey bacon being likely to be enjoyed by few. I found the Jenny O-Lean Turkey bacon disgusting....hard to describe but tastes nothing like regular bacon and made my stomach curl at the thought of eating more. Have you tried bacon and chocolate together?
-----4 foods to keep you hydrated this Summer. I guessed at watermelon but not the others.

In My Life....

-----I am reading Culinary Boot Camp by the CIA (Culinary Institute of America). A fascinating read. I am learning so much.
-----I am expecting a niece/nephew and possibly a cousin. Plus I have a new cousin. I am excited. I love buying baby gifts. I also love when children are a little bit older and you get them a toy (usually educational in my case)....the smiles and pure delight are just so amazing to see.
-----Still getting ready for a big Summer Party. Last night I picked out a LOT of potential music.
-----Today I am coming up with macaroni and cheese ideas. How do you make your macaroni and cheese?
-----Remembering the soldiers...not just on Memorial Day.

Someday Tenessee....

I have always wanted to go to Tennessee. I hear that it is beautiful and, of course, there is the music. Besides Opryland, I am mainly interested in Pigeon Forge (as it is the home of Dollywood (which,of course, has a LOT of music).

While visiting Pigeon Forge, I would either stay onsite at Dollyland (if there is an onsite hotel or in a neighboring city (to save money). The MainStay Suites hotel in Alcoa seems like it might be an ideal choice. The choice of hotels is a crucial element to enjoying a vacation for me.

The hotel I just mentioned an extended stay hotel in Alcoa. Of course, "extended stay" means a lot of residential-style amenities...which always makes me more comfortable at hotels. I can cook....that is good. At the same time, I could be lazy and do continental breakfast....that is good (not a morning person if I haven't stayed up to see the sunrise).

Anyway there are a lot of reasons that I want to visit Dollywood. I don't think that I will see Dolly Parton (outside of some concert)....though I would love that because I like how she expresses herself. What I am realistically excited about is the new Skyzip ride....multiple ziplines in the Smokey Mountains sounds like fun to me (hoping you don't have to be in extremely good shape...though I might be by the time I get a chance to go).

I also want to visit:
----Graceland. I don't know close it is...just like I don't know how close Opryland is. I am Elvis-obsessed though.
-----Alcoa Aluminum. I would assume that there are some sort of tours. The various aluminum processes would be interesting to learn about.
-----Knoxville Zoo. Near Alcoa. It has butterflies. :-) Also, has African penguins.
-----Great Smokey Mountains National Park. That is the beauty that I have always heard of in Tennessee. This is America's most visited National Park. I believe strongly in supporting our National Parks.2009 is this park's 75th anniversary! I want to see/photograph the trees and wildflowers. If there is a safe way, I want to see one of the many bears in this park.
-----Cades Cove. The most visited part of Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Of course, I want to photograph the wildlife. I really, really want to go trout-fishing here.

Are you carrying your Towel today??? It is a Douglas Adams ("Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy") commemorative thing. I am carrying my imaginary virtual towel everywhere online. :-)

Curious as a Cat

1) What is the most un-erotic part of the human body?
My first thought was the toenails. Husband suggested under the toenails.

2) What single word best describes you?
Persistent. Some would say stubborn....I say persistent is the good stubborn.

3) If you had to choose between them, would you rather vacation in the mountains or near a lake?
Near a lake....because I would likely want to go somewhere rich-in-wildfires. Mountain=possibility for no escape. Lake=large fire-putter-outer and possible extra escape route. This is not to say that I won't go into the mountains. Sunset on the mountains usually beats sunset on a lake for me. I haven't seen a sunset on a really spectacular lake though.

4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
The first thing I thought of was that does not look like my keyboard. Then, I wondered what the smiley button does. The smiley button could be for when the Help Button gives no help....press the smile and you get to see a little guy with a mallet breaking a virtual computer.

Sunday Stealing

Today we ripped this meme off a blogger named Eothian MacLir from the blog "Hard Luck Tour." Participate in Sunday Stealing.

A
• Are you available? No. Happily married.
• What is your age? I look younger than I am. I am reading Mrs.Dr.Phil's (Robin McGraw) book on aging.
• What annoys you? Snobbiness....especially when it is based on some stereotype that the Snob has not checked to see if the victim fits.

B
• Do you know anyone named Billy? No. I admire the talent of Billy Idol and Billy Talent though.
• When is your birthday? Not disclosing. I am going to start celebrating Un-Birthdays also.
• Who is your best friend? Husband or Dog. I have another best friend but we seem to have a falling out...not my fault. I see both sides of my Friend's issue.
Cast off the crutch that kills the pain, The red flag waving never meant the same, The kids of tomorrow don't need today, When they live in the Sins of Yesterday. C • What's your favorite candy? Mambas fruit chews. I don't know if they are made anymore. • Crush? Married.Husband. Adam Ant in the early 90s was quiet handsome though....and loved the lyrics of that time frame. • When was the last time you cried? Sometime recently. I was lonely or thinking of past tragedies. I would have to ask Husband as I don't remember which. Turned out that it was brought on by hormones. D • Do you daydream? Yes.I did earlier today. • What's your favorite kind of dog? Any cuddly dog. They are not all cuddly. Our Doggie is cuddly. • What day of the week is it? Sunday. E • How do you like your eggs? Over-easy with hashbrowns and tabasco sauce. I also like Eggs Benedict. Speaking of Hollandaise Sauce, I am currently enamored of Tilapia with Hollaindaise Sauce. • Have you ever been in the emergency room? Yes. • Ever pet an elephant? No....but I could have. I am going to try watching a 2003 film called "Elephant"...if it is available from the library. F • Do you use fly swatters? Yes. I own several. All but one shaped like hands. I detest flies. I can't find my fly swatters...so, I hope I don't find any flies. • Have you ever used a foghorn? No. • Is there a fan in your room? Yes. I detest heat (and deplore humidity)...so, I have all sorts of stuff to keep cool. G • Do you chew gum? Yes. I hate this sangria gum that I have right now. One more stick and no more sangria. • Do you like gummy candies? Yes. German gummie bears. Any fresh gummy worms (gummy worms are not always fresh when they are sold). Gummie peach rings...sometimes. I hate Lifesavers Gummies....glad Husband ate the package of them that I bought. • Do you like gory movies? No. I am fine though if it is a "thriller." H • How are you? OK. Disappointed that I can't put flowers on graves on Memorial Day (no dog sitter). • What's your height? Again not disclosing. I am happy with my height. I wish that thyroid problems (genuine not just claiming) would go away....that way I would have less swollen ankles, less weight and be able to wear heels again. I • What's your favorite ice cream? Pineapple • Have you ever ice skated? No...but I really want to. I am very much a clutz though...and this worries me. • Ever been in an igloo? No.Too cold for me. Mary Poppins makes it sound so easy. • Do you think kangaroos are cute? If they look at you like a Puppy dog...otherwise, no. I want to try kangaroo meat. Smart-aleck Husband's response to wanting to try kangaroo meat is that I should have answered "kangaroos" to "who do you want to kill?" L • Are you laidback? Unsure. • Lions or Tigers? Tigers....they are often beautiful. • Do you like black licorice? No. Oh....and, speaking of jelly beans above, I deplore black licorice jelly beans. -----Kevin Rose now has a Twitter account just for tea...@goodtea.
-----I have been out shopping where Mothers are teaching their children how to use the ATM card...and actually say the number to the child. Or the child says the number out loud...and the Mother does not tell them that they should not.
-----I was a little surprised about the ATM scams. The piece put on the ATM looked a lot different than what I have seen in other videos....a clear plastic strip alongside (not the big plastic piece). I know Kevin doesn't, but do you think that there is a likelihood of you getting hit by an ATM scam?
-----The weirdest apple pie...ever.

My answer:
I never have enough time lately.

______________________

-----Seth Godin's advice on how to handle not having enough time.

Summertime....meme.

Saturday 9: Hot Fun in the Summertime

1. Is summer your favorite season? Why?
No. The heat and humidity. Mainly the humidity. I detest the struggling to keep the garden alive in the summer heat.

2. Do you exercise more in the summer because you wear less clothing?
No. Then again I don't usually wear that much less. I feel more comfortable if my arms are covered as I work more on things were I get dirty in the summer. I don't like getting my arms dirty or scratched. Also, mosquitoes give me problems...that means covering up at those times, too.
-----I will be trying some of this large list of mosquito bite relief tips this summer.

3. Do you enjoy tanning or are you more concerned about the dangers of basking in the sun?
I know I shouldn't but occasionally I enjoy tanning. I like to look healthy and I am happy if I accidentally got tan.

4. You are on the beach when a waiter appears for your drink order. What do you ask for?
A tequila sunrise. Or a sweet cherry wine. This summer, I am planning to try a Orange Sunset. I look forward to reading everyone's answers on this question as I love trying new things.

5. Do you camp in the summertime?
We plan on refurbishing a tour or school bus to use as an RV. I wanted to take months and follow the Oregon trail in our RV...like a tame recreation of the Oregon Trail game...Husband has agreed to play along but only for two weeks. I do not like tent camping...safety issues.

6. What was your favorite summer vacation as a kid?
Going to a zoo or large museum. We did a lot of educational stuff. On a hot summer day ice cream at a zoo (or amusement park) just seems more fun and wondrous.

7. Do you enjoy sleeping outdoors?
If I feel safe. I plan on bathing outdoors...we are going to put in a tubhouse sooner or later. The tubhouse will have a clawfoot tub, shower and whirlpool....all basically outdoors.

8. Do you throw a summer barbecue every year?
Maybe. This year being our first. I would love to get a group photo of all my friends and loved ones each year.

9. Have you ever been to a nude beach? If yes, what did you think?
No,never been. I would not go nude. I would take artistic photos if people would let me. I would prefer a beach with great scenic beauty if I were to go to a nude beach.

Participate in this week's Saturday 9.

The Dolphins Have Their Own Fads.

Not necessarily a trend for all dolphins...but the Dolphins at Sea World are doing this. Husband found the video amazing, too.

Say It Forward.....Living Next Door to Alice.

Mom Blogs
Each week we are to feature one person whose constant comments have enriched our blog. I highly recommend that you read Thomas of "Living Next Door to Alice."

Some of the great things about Thomas:
-----The Alice mentioned is Alice Cooper (no, I don't think Alice Cooper lives next door). I can remember discussing one of my fave comics...a collaboration between Neil Gaiman and Alice Cooper. Oops...correct that....I have spoken with Thomas about Alice Cooper the singer but this is Alice Cooper the much-loved cat. :-)
-----This point about the charitable habits of the rich and the poor
-----Lots of quotes. Poetry and various intellectual works. I appreciated this from Voltaire: "Every man is guilty of all the good he didn't do." I like the Voltaire quote because it is the type of thing that I discuss often....the depth of a person's responsibility (in their actions and inactions).
-----An honest an insightful opinion of the new credit card laws. I am beginning to think that I will drastically avoid credit cards...once I get them all paid off.
-----Can fold origami. I would like to see pictures. I have always been intimidated/not good at this. In case readers don't know, you can now get some pretty papers especially for folding origami at craft stores (like Hobby Lobby).
-----Feeds the birds. This year at our house, we are planning to decorate one of our trees especially for the birds. The Mary Poppins song "Feed the Birds" is now going through my head.
-----Blogs about music.
-----A good post about preconceived notions. I try to be open to experiencing anything that is safe/morally-acceptable to me....and try it a few times. I like that Thomas is open-minded....willing to talk to Bloggers from different backgrounds with contrasting opinions.
-----Gave me something interesting to think about regarding Van Gogh. Van Gogh is one of my fave artists....I have seen many of his works, including "Starry Night," in person.
-----Thinks that if Wilford Brimley shaved his moustache,he could go down the streets unrecognized. I agree.
-----Presents me with novel ideas...like using cows to deter anti-social behavior and indoor kite-flying.
-----The short review of Claritin made me smile. Then there was the very valid point about the Viagra side effect warnings. :-)
-----Introduced me to the rainbow quiz. It describes me pretty well.
Your rainbow is shaded violet.

What is says about you: You are a creative person. You appreciate beauty and craftsmanship. You are patient and will keep trying to understand something until you've mastered it.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

Other posts by Thomas:
-----42 Puddles (about Douglas Adams)
-----A few Marilyn Manson quotes
-----A thought on The Ramones
-----I like this collage to strengthen the parent/child relationship. I am seriously thinking of making one to represent how I see my Husband. You have no idea how MANY magazines I have that I could find pictures in.

-----Manicures that last much longer. In my younger days, I guess I could justify the cost. I would not pay that now. I have seen some of the foil things and they are beautiful. I wonder if, like other manicures, the cost will come down eventually.

Coupon Code=Fun

The majority of my online shopping is combined with coupon codes or actual coupons. If you have never been introduced to this wonderful method of online shopping, you will likely be surprised at how much money is saved.

For instance, the draperies that we are about to put up all cost about 5 dollars each. I kid you not. We saved a few hundred dollars by buying them on clearance with a coupon code! I do this for Christmas gifts too...I usually knock out at least the shipping/handling and often pay way less than the ON-SALE price.

Tonight I have been looking at BestOnlineCoupons.com. The site has listings for over a thousand online stores and services. It would take a long time to go through them all. :-)

I am especially impressed with:
-----Horchow coupon promo codes....they have a 25% sale that will be expiring on the 20th. I could spend hours on that site....and a lot of money if I had it. Currently, I am intrigued by their leather sofas, curio cabinets and tables for the entry way. A LOT of BEAUTIFUL house items.
-----Zales Jewelry Coupons. Right now, there is an offer for $50 off an order of $200 or more. Plus, there is a limited-time 10% sale. I do not shop at Zale....but that is a significant savings when it comes to picking a jewelry piece and I have seen some beautiful amethysts at some of the Zales stores.
-----Zappos. As usual Zappos has a little of everything. I am even more delighted with Zappos since the fun action hero episode on Celebrity Apprentice. :-) Anyone who has a healthy respect for comic-book-type-heroes is great.
-----Walgreens. You can save on photo orders done before May 22nd. I am going to Twitter this for all my photo-holic friends on Twitter.
-----Walmart. There is one for free shipping with Site-To-Store orders. This is how I plan to order both our Doggie pool and our Human pool. The Doggie pool is a trick that Cesar says helps with trimming stubborn Doggie's fingernails.
-----Dell. I don't know if I will be able to find a code/sale that will help but I am going to look as I need a security cable for my laptop. I am hoping to use the Home Media part of my computer to play a soundtrack for a Bonfire Party this summer. If I can get a microphone and a way of securing the computer it will be really cool. You don't even have to have the laptop open or fully on.

How do you save money online?

Why I never bring my lunch to work......

People who steal your lunch items are RUDE. People who just eat part of your lunch (and make it so you might not know about it) are NASTY. I wish that I could go blissfully back to the days when I was unaware of this behavior. I have decided I would rather go through the effort of delivery, having someone bring me lunch or just not eating until I get home. Sometimes I will bring no-refrigeration-necessary-items in my purse.

How do you deal with lunch thieves???....and other communal refrigerator rudenesses?

Summertime Party......

Cousin 2 is coming to visit this summer....and Cousin 1 is coming back. This means that we must throw a celebration. Plus there are 3 summer birthdays that I can think of....so that means lots of cake at our celebration.

First off, we are in the process of building a firepit....a nice proper fire pit. I have actually been busily studying methods from a copy (re-issued) of the 1920 Girl Scout Handbook. This is not the way I remember fire pit advice, so I think I will combine the old advice with something a little more modern. I want an emphasis on comfort, safety and not having the ashes blow at guests.

We are figuring out where to put shelter tents and have firewood from a neighbor. I have to figure out comfortable seating. Maybe I can find someone with logs (if nothing else) or ask people to bring deck chairs.

Really the celebration is going to be a few weeks....but with an emphasis on a bonfire cookout. I have been going through recipes...a pile of 23 books. Highlights of the weeks will include a truffle bar and a wide selection of microbrews. Expect pictures.

Anyway it will not be as wild as a naughty schoolgirl party....yes, you read that right there is such. I do want there to be some fun games though...I just haven't figured out what yet. I thought of pinatas for the kids and stuff like that. Definitely marshmallow roasting and ingredients for S'mores.*Definitely the Sparklers that we have left over from last 4th of July. I don't know what else.
*-I want to try S'mores made with Nutella and banana slices. This is done without the chocolate.

I don't think it will happen for this party, but perhaps for the 4th of July we could do some sort of T-shirt making event. I know that some of my family would love this.

For this party, I think that we will be doing face paint for children (and adults if they really want). You can get non-toxic face paint, masks, etc. for children at a craft store (Hobby Lobby,Michael's,etc.). Oh....must also get bubbles and sidewalk chalk.

For the adults, if time permits me to get it together, I would love to do a scavenger hunt. Limbo would be a funny camera opportunity. :-)

I have been hunting for party ideas but still just in the fledgling stage.

What are fun things that you do for summer parties?

In My Life....

-----Slumdog Millionaire and Doubt finally came in at the library. Tonight we are watching Slumdog Millionaire. Husband, who doesn't get enthusiastic about things like that sometimes, surprised me. Husband had a definite preference as to which movie we watched. I am excited...will be fun. There will be microwave popcorn.
-----My friend has the flu...really bad. Regular flu not swine flu. Husband says is feeling much better....I would say that is relative to how he was feeling before.
-----My Bible is starting to fall apart. Worried that it is not repairable. It is a study Bible and I have used it a LOT.
-----Excited for summer guests to come.
-----We got a dishwasher! It is a sink-top dishwasher...so we don't have to pull out cabinets like we were planning to. Right now we will have to hook and unhook it from the sink...but soon we are putting a permanent pipe underneath. It washes six place settings at a time.
-----Our garden is coming along swimmingly...lots of vegetables.

Ad Controversy......

-----Craig's List has agreed to reformat the process for Adult Ads.
-----The message that an Atheist group wanted to send during an Obama visit
-----Wilder Valderrama (Fez from That 70s show) speaks out against circuses in new PETA ad.
-----Tomato and Watermelon Salad recipe. I am not sure if I have tried this taste combo before....I think I have at some point...but I don't know. Anyway I will be trying this recipe....and likely the mosaic at some point. :-)

What I'm Wishing For....

This week we were to pick a old TV series that we would like to have made into a movie.

My answer:
Hogan's Heroes. I would want it done in a way that was not offensive to Germans or other people involved in WWII. This was a very funny show. We have the complete series that we have been slowly watching....and then passing on to my Mother (who is very ill and likes them to pass the time). TVLand.com has a rotating schedule of episodes that you can watch for FREE.
____________________

Other things I want:
-----The storage bags that one vacuums the excess air out of. I would like to store sweaters and Fall suits. Also, a pretty carpet for one of my closets.
-----To buy a case of Blu Frog (energy drink) for our Summer guests.
-----More farm-fresh eggs. I have found someone to buy them from. Farm-fresh eggs make baked items taste so much better. I love over-easy eggs made with them, too.
-----To learn the words to the song that the character Bender (Judd Nelson) sang about wanting to be an Airborne Ranger (in the movie "The Breakfast Club).
-----The series "The Chopping Block" to have a second season.
-----The rest of "Valentine" to be aired.
-----To find a medieval-looking dress that goes well with my green Marvin the Martian fisherman's hat.
-----Purchase a mosquito trap called a "Mosquito Magnet" for the grill area that we are putting in. The Mosquito Magnet traps the mosquitos for 200 feet!
-----To avoid catching the Swine Flu or any summer flu. I have thyroid problems and the flu makes me EXTREMELY sick. I try very hard not to catch the flu....garlic,handwashing,etc.
-----To try a lot of grilling recipes this Summer....especially marinades.
-----To find a costume wig that I actually like. I have a few Halloween wigs but no really nice wigs.
-----An Anniversary ring. Husband says that this will occur at some point. I would like it to be a plain band of blue sapphires that does not go all the way around. At least that is my vision for now. I also want to do a really fun vow renewal party.
-----To try linguini with clam sauce. Both the red and the white sauce.
-----To attend the BlogHer and SXSW Conferences.
-----To attract a lot of bees to my yard (fairly safe bees only). I am trying to do my part to help fight the Bee Collapse. I have a problem with the bee stings, so I avoid them myself like the plague. I am lucky to have Husband....who is willing to have me teach him beekeeping and have him do it (one of next year's projects).
-----This Iron Butterfly Baseball Cap. I would also like to see a digital video that actually looks like Elvis singing Inna-Gadda-di-Vida.....because I think he would have been awesome at singing this song. I have written an e-mail to Iron Butterfly telling them that they should do some sort of virtual Elvis like this. :-)
-----To visit at least one zoo and one amusement park this summer.
-----To take a cruise to somewhere warm. The catch is that I wonder if there is a cruise that would allow Doggie. I would be a little nervous about absolutely assuring that Doggie stayed on leash.
-----To play Bossaball. I do not know of anywhere in the United States that offers this game.
-----To find ways of eating meat that cause less strain on the environment.
-----To have a complete lapidary equipment setup.
-----A more restful/rejuvenating bathroom.
-----A new stock pot set.
-----A claw-foot tub and a rubber duckie. I have told Husband that they have rubber duckies at the dollar store. :-)
-----This Kool-Aid Man hoodie. You know that if their were a Blooper tape, a lot of this type of thing would be in there.
-----To read a graphic novel called "Nixon's Pals." It is about a man who is a parole officer for super heroes.
-----To learn glowsticking...both freehand and string.
-----Replace a necklace chain that I am allergic to...and repair a couple that are broken.
-----Purchase and board a horse. Or at least go horseback riding with the same horse on a regular basis. Learn how to saddle and care for a horse. I can ride but haven't learned all the other things. The equestrian school that I really want to attend must be really busy....I know that they are still in business but they never answer any of my inquiries.
-----To make another Kiva investment (micro-business loans to third-world countries).
-----To open a coffee shop
-----To get more intense with my urban farming efforts. Also to get a truck....because we have to borrow one a lot when hauling manure and the like.
-----Complete my Phd.
-----Finish paying off this laptop.
-----Get the proper set-up and repairs done for my guitars. Then learn how to play them.
-----People to keep my Mother in their thoughts and prayers. She has Stage 4 Breast Cancer,Diabetes,Had a Heart Attack and has a host of other health problems. Please think/pray about her if you can.

Repeat. Again and again and again. Oops, I Did it Again. Play it again, Sam. When practicing something, it is done over and over again.

2. Shower
Wedding shower. Baby shower. April showers bring May flowers. I have a baby shower that I need to start putting together a present for. The weather forecast calls for showers. I am addicted to shower products...and very picky about the scents.

3. Flirting
Married people should not flirt. So much flirting done online. I get really aggravated when people "tease" little kids by saying they are "flirting" with waitresses.

4. Moving on
What people say you should do following a tragedy. The Alabama song "Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler)."

5. Rachel
Rachel Ray.Rachel from the Bible (Jacob's wife whom he had to work so hard to marry). Rachel McAdams from "The Notebook"...the movie was good but I detested the ending of the book.

6. Chips
Fish and chips.Doritos. Paint Chips. Buffalo chips. Tortilla chips. Taco Pizza with lots of taco sauce sounds good right now. Computer chip. CHIPS...the TV series. Chipmunk. Chippendales. Chip N Dale (Disney). Poker chip. Chipped tooth. Microchip.Chocolate chip.

7. Texting
It annoys me when a person who is supposed to be working is texting. Other than that, I love the idea of texting...particularly Twitter. :-)

8. Feel better
Get well soon. Chicken noodle soup. Hugs. My Mother has Stage 4 Breast Cancer,Diabetes, Had a Heart Attack and many other health problems....I desperately want her to Feel Better.

9. Cashmere
My beautiful green Pashmina scarf that I want to get my picture taken with. I keep catching it on my fingernails...scared of ruining the very delicate fabric.

10. Sucked
When I say something "sucks", my Mother/elders do not like it. Vacuum cleaner. I want to get some of the storage bags where the vacuum cleaner sucks all the extra air out...for storage of sweaters and the like. Using a straw...I have some fun straws with pink flamingos attached to them for this Summer.

TAILS - "Rhymes with Ball"

-----A fun/addicting little game of Ball. I just started playing it. My top score so far has been 240. The key to winning is strategy (IMO).
-----The Public 8 Ball was a unique idea. :-)
-----Two-person Zorb Ball looks like a LOT of fun. If I were an amusement park, I would think that it would be great to have a major zorbing experience. :-)
-----World's Largest Twine Ball. I wish that it had some other purpose than just sitting there and being a twine ball.
-----An educational moment....playing catching with a strange ball.

More work on my Summer Guest menus.....

------Apple Cranberry Cider...I will have to get kitchen thread and cheesecloth bags.I have been needing to get the cheesecloth for a long time. Though it is summer, Husband says cider could be good around the nighttime bonfires.
-----Hot Cranberry Punch. Seems like will be easy to prepare.
-----Iced Mexican Chocolate A recipe from the National Honey Board.
-----Pea Salad. We have loved this recipe each time we have made it. Definitely want to share it with loved ones. Last time I prepared this for relatives, this pea salad went over well.
-----Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad. Uses Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix.
-----Peachy Carrots. I actually have the 2004 issue of Quick Cooking that this came from.
-----French's Crunchy Onion Chicken Tenders. We will serve with a variety of sauces....and have regular chicken tenders for a friend who is allergic to onions.
-----Island Style Ham and Sweet Potato Casserole
-----Chinese Turkey Skillet
-----Baby Pea Soup with Mint, Basil & Chorizo Sausage
-----Farm-fresh eggs....the recipe for that that one is self-explanatory. :-) There is likely a reputable farm somewhere near you that sells them. I would even say worth a road trip if you have other things to do in a farming city. I really recommend using them for baking. Try a properly-cooked over-easy egg made with them....it is so very good compared to those sitting in the store. I just tried my first farm-fresh eggs this month and I am hooked.

week of may3: a few of my favorite things...
tell me your fav...

1. person
Husband....of course.

2. movie
"Pretty in Pink"....but sometimes I wish Duckie got the girl.
OR
"Breakfast Club"...I want to worn the words to the song that Bender sang about wanting to be an Airborne Ranger. The characters were so well-developed in this movie.
OR
"Escape from L.A."...I have pretty much worn out my VHS copy.
AND
Not my fave but really, really has its moments and could become part of tied for fave...."The Hours." Such a real story and most writers don't blend different timelines that well.

3. book

"Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
"The World According to Garp"
"The New Living Translation".....of THE BIBLE
You would think that since I am so Hitchhiker and Garp obsessed that I would totally enjoy other works by Adams and Irving....I am disappointed to say that I do not find myself as intrigued. I do own other works by both Adams and Irving. :-)

4. pastime
Photography. Blogging. OR Both Combined.
As I type, I am sitting in our yard plotting how to photograph a raven and his wife. Husband says he doesn't know if ravens mate for life. Husband is calling the raven's missus his "Summer Wife."

5. season
Spring....but only when worst of rain is gone and the flowers are out.

6. tv show
"The Chopping Block"
Now that The Chopping Block appears to be over, my favorite reverts back to "Hell's Kitchen."
A very close second is "Heroes."

7. color
Green

8. item of clothing
A medieval dress.
I want to find one that goes well with my Marvin the Martian hat (green and looks like a fishing hat). I admired Jim Morrison when he wore fishing hats....sometimes, I look about that unkempt when I wear them). I think that the contrast of the very tidy laced dress and the Marvin hat is excellent for me.

9. childhood memory
Running.
My knees give me problems now . I have just recently been able to start jogging on occasion....so, I guess it is getting better. If my knees continue to improve, I plan to train for marathons and be an active participant of some running club.

10. food
Grilled cheese sandwiches.
If my Husband wants to cook me a meal that will absolutely delight me.....all he has to do is tell me that we are having grilled cheese tonight. Occasionally, I like to try different versions of grilled cheese....but in general the traditional way (and perfectly cooked) is best. I definitely want to try the simple Tomato-Cheese variation listed on Epicurious...but I don't know if I will like it. It is helpful to know how to make multiple grilled cheese sandwiches at a time (in the oven). I am not sure if I want to try the stoveless method.

till next time...

A new decor direction for me.

-----I am puzzled by glass tile in decor. I would really like to figure out if there is a way I can include it in decor...without bumping into it and cutting myself. I am really good at cutting myself on mosaic tile and seed beads (also made of glass for those that don't bead). Maybe a lot of well-placed grout?
-----I would like to do some sort of tiling in this Blue Purple color. I must ask Husband how he thinks it would fit into our house. I am not good at visualizing things like that....how a detailed piece will look when there is nothing similar around.
-----The Blue Purple tiles that I am looking at are also frost resistant. I wonder if that means I can put them outdoors. Perhaps I can make pretty decoration for our planned fish pond and planned grilling area.

DOES YOUR HOME DECOR MAKE YOU SMILE???
