I wonder what the mosquitoes would do if I started charging them rent.

A major concern for us this year is mosquitoes. For some reason, whenever it rains water now pools under the grass in a patch of our yard. Luckily, part of this is the location where we want to put a pond/fountain/waterfall arrangement....thus removing part of my concerns over still water.

Just today I was outside taking various buckets/trashbins and spilling water out. Every year it seems like a war on the mosquitoes. I have real problems with mosquito bites and I do not want our dog to get heartworm. West Nile would also be most unpleasant!

It is not so great when you are attempting to show a guest around or work on plants....and getting eaten alive.

I want to put a permanent grill area in and we definitely need a mosquito strategy for that area. I have already advised Husband that there will be lots of citronella tiki torches...if we can stand the smell. I always hold off on mosquito spray as long as I can because I seem to get the taste in my mouth for a long time (every time).

This evening, I also started learning about a mosquito trap called "Mosquito Magnet." It attracts the mosquitoes to some part of your yard by mimicking the presence of a human. If the proper attractants are used, this machine can also get rid of black flies and no-see-ums (the latter I absolutely abhor).

What are you doing to deal with mosquitoes?

I love The Chopping Block.

The final episode for this season's "The Chopping Block." I find this show fascinating and hope that it is able to come back. I feel like the show was not given enough publicity....and thus not a fair chance to do well. I learned a LOT from the show.

3X Thursday.....

1. What's the weather like today? Describe it.
Beautiful. Just the perfect amount of brightness and there is a light breeze. As soon as my computer battery is charged fully, I am going to go outside with the laptop. I have a lot of stuff to do today....but I must enjoy the nice weather.

2. Did you/are you going to do anything productive (sure, it's relative) today? What did you/are you up to?
I am becoming more organized in my money-making efforts. The world seems to think I should revolve around money. I am going to make a lot of way (without compromising me)....and then tell some of the people who are pressuring/bothering me what I think. I work so hard in life and all I get is grief/scorn/disrespect. I thought twice about publishing this....but this is how I truly feel. It has been a hard day.

3. Do you need to make some phone calls or send some emails to people that you haven't heard from lately? If so, who? Here's your reminder to do it!
No. I do need to later in the week. Actually, I should call my brother tonight. Also, confirming with my Mother tomorrow that she will be rested enough to be visited on Sunday. My Mother has cancer....and I am worried right now (three more rounds when I was told it was DONE).

Participate in 3X Thursday.
-----Disney joins Hulu....takes some ownership stake. This means that there will be ABC programs on Hulu....not Disney. My initial thought is that it would be Disney programs....and that would add a very different dynamic to Hulu. Of course, most of Hulu is more adult programs.

In My Life....

-----Excited because we will again have guests this summer. I have gone through the latest issue of "Taste of Home" Magazine and picked out some recipes I want to try. We will also be doing a lot of grilling.
-----Soon we are installing a large shelving unit in the kitchen. I think it will be for tea, cereal and extra spices....all things that we always need more room for.
-----I experimented with my latest Ramen concoction again this evening. This time I put in frozen corn instead of the peas and Albacore. I plan to use the corn version as a small side when we grill this summer.
-----I like costumes. I will be trying making Princess Leia hair buns.

Celeb Apprentice Week 9

I love Joan Rivers outfit in the boardroom. Beautiful jacket and beads.

Clint Black talks about his charity...something I had never heard of-Rett's Syndrome. I still didn't really understand what Rett's Syndrome is after the video.

Rapping airline attendant.....

The kind of fun you would expect from Southwest.

Stand By Me.....

I am slowly working my way through learning about all the people in this video. Roger Ridley, the Blues Man at the start of the video passed away in 2005.

When I think of "Stand By Me" I definitely have to give a nod to the John Lennon version.

I don't know what to call my latest Ramen concoction.

4 packs Ramen (do not add seasoning until some of water absorbed in noodles...i.e. mainly cooked)
1 can albacore tuna
Ground Black Pepper to taste (I only use McCormick's)
Thyme to taste
Can of Peas
Small tablespoon minced garlic
Garlic powder to taste

Put in water. Put in hurry. Put in seasoning packets after noodles cooked some. Add peas, tuna and minced garlic. Season with garlic powder, thyme and black pepper...all to taste. Make sure stirring as do not want to stick. If starts making sighing sounds (getting ready to stick), add a little water but let absorb....I have to do this a couple times. Make sure peas and albacore are heated. Shortly before serve, add tiny pinch of garlic powder, pepper and thyme. Best served hot....but let cool enough so won't burn mouth. Serves 2-4.

Celebrity Apprentice,Season 2 Episode 7

It was nice to see LifeLock featured on this episode. I often write about Lifelock here on this blog. I hear more and more people say either that their identity was stolen or their account compromised. Todd Davis, CEO of Lifelock, seemed a lot different to my on TV than in ads...less stiff...reminded me of some of the leadership/manner of handling self that I liked about Al Gore (after Al stepped out of politics).

-----A game called "Eat Nasty Stuff!!!"

Diamonds and such....

Looking at the Blue Nile site this evening....beautiful jewelry. I love my wedding ring (not a Blue Nile piece). I can not wear it though because it needs to be re-pronged and one of the diamonds needs to be re-color-matched. That's depressing.

One thing that is not depressing for me is looking at the Blue Nile site. Someday, I am told that I will get an Anniversary ring....on some special anniversary. As it stands, I want a simple gold band of blue sapphires and diamonds....with the stones not going all the way around. I haven't found out yet if they have one like what I want, but Blue Nile has many other diamond rings.

One can order a diamond ring with a Blue Nile Signature stone before 3:00pm and receive a custom-built diamond ring the next day! Great turnaround time for those wanting to get an engagement ring quickly. I only wish that their was a company who did repairs as quickly!

Blue Nile really tries to offer options. Over 60,000 diamonds and hundreds of rings...that makes for many beautiful engagement ring choices. Looking through I did not find a yellow gold ring...but I did find a few pieces that were suitable for my belief that a woman should buy herself a few quality pieces.

I liked:
-----Sapphire and Half-Moon Shaped Diamond Ring in Platinum. I would like to see
what this one looks like in see the unique shape of the diamonds.
From the picture I would say that the diamonds really highlight the sapphire.

-----Pear-Shape Sapphire and Diamond Pendant in 18K White Gold

I must thank Blue Nile for the nifty ring-sizer that they sent me years ago. I keep it in my jewelry box and have used it many times. Wow....I have been a Blue Nile fan for years now. :-)

Do you like this hairbow?

Working on Summer Cooking....

This summer we will be having a lot of guests....which means a lot of cooking. I am stocking up on the non-perishables for recipes now....and trying them out to make sure they are palatable.

I have noticed that most of the recipes I find include either things that freeze or go in the fridge as non-perishables. I am trying not to include anything that goes in the fridge...unless it is something we absolutely ALWAYS have on hand.

This is fun. It also teaches me how to be emergency-ready to some extent.

Recipes I am considering:
-----Low Cal Chicken-Tortilla Soup
-----15-Minute Easy Enchiladas
-----Campfire Supper....wondering if it could be done well with bacon.
-----Chicken Spaghetti...though leery, Husband has consented to eventually try it. I also want to convince him to try Shrimp Spaghetti....Husband is way more leery of that. :-)
-----Asparagus Soup...we'll see. A lot of people I know hate any kind of asparagus. We always have plenty of onions on hand.
-----Linguini with Clam Sauce. I want to try both the red and the white sauce.
-----Sweet and Sour Spam....given Spam's reputation that could be an adventure with guests.
-----Fruit Cobbler. Trying different variations.
-----Flour tortillas....handmade tortillas. :-)
-----Fried Indian Bread...rolled in cinnamon and sugar.
-----Garlic Cheese Grits with Ham

-----Today is Plan Your Epitaph Day. I have no idea what I would like mine to least nothing that would make sense to other than a few people. I think making my Bucket List will be easier.
-----I do not think this Mexican Hominy recipe would be appetizing. Just something about the thought of salsa, hominy and Velveeta together does not strike me as good. I love hominy....but likely not in any kind of salsa.

On the road again.....

-----Went past a town called Sleepy Hollow. :-) Taking a trip to drop a friend off to visit her parents.
-----I have never been to Tanger Outlet Center in Williamsburg, Iowa and always wanted to go. Not today though apparently....all we had time to do was stop at the gas station restroom. There is little (read this as no) Broadband Access at Tanger for some I was robbed of evening Twittering that I was there when I was there. There was a store or restaurant called Le Gourmet Chef that was so close....yet so far out of reach. Sadly, this is the second time I have had this exact same letdown (minus the broadband). Not dejavu....dejadidn't.
-----Discovered there is NO broadband access in Williamsburg, Iowa.
-----My other friend is a smoker. He accidentally lit me on fire today while smoking in the car. There must be a hole in my clothing somewhere. Hurt in a couple of places and I will not be smelling so rosy for the rest of the day. Now picturing Smokey the Bear chasing after the car.
-----Passed a town called Malcom....wonder what it is in the middle of. Yes, I am being corny.
-----My 9-hhour NEW battery barely lasts three hours when traveling...apparently. I hope that just has something to do with the Broadband access. Our car charger is not working. Hopefully, I will be able to charge battery at some point.
-----As usual, when we travel there are so many dead animals on the side of the road. The decapitated dead deer was very upsetting.

Lee National Denim Day raises funds for fighting Breast Cancer. Maybe your workplace will let you do this. The Day will be October 2, 2009.

In My Life....

-----Started trying out Jergens Ultra-Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer. The sample package says it is good for elbows. Supposed to lock in moisture, heal dry skin, and last 24 hours. The consistency is perfect...not too runny or too thick. The scent reminds me of Olay (but it does not irritate my skin as Olay sometimes does). It was easy to blend into my skin and did not make my pants stick to my knees after application. I am using it a little at a time and keeping the package still usable by putting it in a Ziploc bag. Not sure if I have more packages of the same somewhere....sometimes companies send more than one sample. Had some left over from the first portion, went ahead and moisturized my knees, too (says is good for knees and heels). Part of my goals for this year are to take good care of myself. :-)
-----Tested out our water today using a kit that I got from Diamond Crystal. Our water is hard. I will test it again...once I employ all the tips in their booklet.
-----For a good portion of the day today, I wore a she-devil Halloween wig around the house for amusement. Trying to figure out if there is an anime costume that I could do employing this wig.
