I Will Find a Way....BlogHer 2009

Every year I need and want to attend BlogHer....every year something comes up financially that is a higher priority. Every year I take all my efforts and shift them to whatever thing I must put above what I would so love to do. This year is different....I WILL GO.

As people all over the Internet have heard, my Mother is in the hospital. She had a silent heart attack, diabetes and a host of other problems....and she found out about them ALL AT ONCE. Had she not had a bout of pneumonia and been unable to walk...I really wonder if I would not one day soon be telling a much more shocking story.

My family somehow is mainly from a different generation though they live in this one. My mother would consider it taboo that I am praying for her on the Internet....though I blog anonymously. My mother made many sacrifices for us over the years and I think lost herself along the way.

I want to go to BlogHer because I come from the family where saying "I love you" is a weakness...and I am the only one who has that weakness. A family where my mother did not go out or have friends...just plodded through what needed to be done for us all...for YEARS. A family where my parents sacrificed every penny to send us to good schools....EVERYTHING went into a good future for us children. A family where some were MUCH LESS sacrificing and caring. I come from a sad family full of and influenced by past tragedies.

I am making some progress in showing my mother that it is OK to live a life of one's own. I know that I can not get my mother to go to BlogHer. I know that I can only make progress a little-at-a-time with the rest of my family. My mother is considering a (rather necessary) retirement once she makes it through this all. I would like to see that retirement be her chance at actually enjoying and LIVING LIFE....and finding out who she is as an individual.

I know that showing my family what great things I can do at BlogHer is an important thing. I will be there. The lady with all the cameras. I will be the one talking/blogging a mile-a-minute to the family that I am trying to inspire. I will be the one with more swag from all over Chicago than anyone. Maybe one day I will be the woman at BlogHer with a mother just stepping out into the amazing things in the world.

A woman can have a strong voice and strong actions. Attending BlogHer will be another way for me to tell the woman preparing for an angiogram tomorrow morning that I love her. My Mommy.

Queen of Spain is giving a way a full BlogHer conference registration.....and I VERY MUCH hope that I win. Another person who entered that I am touched by is Gwynne....I wish her luck in this BlogHer opportunity and with all her goals.

In My Life.....

-----In a They-Might-Be-Giants-kind-of-mood today. I am listening to anything I can find by them as we get ready for yet another Holiday guest.
-----Enjoying watching movies on Sling this evening.
-----Glad that we still have guests coming....they can share all the baked goods and candy. We received enough of each (baked goods and candy) that I will have to get industrious in figuring out how to eat it all before it goes bad.
-----Redeemed some of my "My Points." I ended up making a Red Cross donation of 500 points. I am excited that I will be getting a $15 FTD card for redeeming points during the holidays and wonder when it will arrive.

Situation Sunday

Situation #1
At the office holiday party you notice your partners boss getting not once but numerous times a little to touchy feely with your spouse......What do you do?

I pull my spouse aside and ask them what they are doing to discourage this. I insist on some plan of action.

Situation # 2
Your lover of many years has given you this year outfits that are 2 sizes to small. They knew your size but they decided that you really should be this size.....and perhaps you could shrink into them......What do you do?

Reconsider the relationship. Clearly, having this person as a "lover" for several years must be due to extreme reservations (other than just the most recent actions). This is a TOTALLY inappropriate "gift"....Christmas presents that include a criticism and an attempted manipulation. It is pretty much a given that this will be the last holiday we spend together. We do not remain friends.

Situation # 3
You are traveling many miles to get home for the you get within 50 miles of your are going through a ghost town and your car brakes is cell service and there hasn't been another car on the road for hours.....What do you do?
Hopefully I am awake enough, safe enough and warm enough to wait in my car until morning. I will be praying/considering further action the whole time. I will also be inventorying the car for resources. When/if I make it home, I will write a blog post for others should they encounter such a situation.

Playing "You Don't Know Jack"

I won $16,299....which the game still thinks is not good. I was happy.
Warning: In case you don't know, this game is PG-ish.

Listening To.....

"Cosmic Universal Fashion" by Sammy Hagar. A follow-up to "Right Now." Did you see something in this video that made you think?
-----How many times a week do you hear someone talking about their hairdo? Is this because the Bible mentions that a woman's hair is their crowning glory?
-----I have tried to find the original "Right Here,Right Now" video that I could post here....but I am have not been able to find anything that didn't violate copyright. :-(

And while I am talking of things from Roadrunner Records (Sammy Hagar), I am feeling a nostalgic for some Nickelback songs.

"Rockstar" (explicit). What's your favorite line from this song?...meaning what line would you have liked to sing in the video?

"Leader of Men"

-Sixpence None The Richer - "Silent Night" Featuring Dan Haseltine from Jars Of Clay
-This song and other Christmas classics available on the band's album "The Dawn Of Grace" out now on iTunes and Amazon.
-"The Dawn Of Grace" features 8 Christmas classics and 2 original recordings!

I love the look of this video. Very sweet and something children might enjoy.

"Elf's Lament" by Barenaked Ladies.

Our Doggie likes to watch their "Polliwog in a Bog Video" on my laptop....the animatronics are eye-catching for Doggie. For some reason, does not react as strongly as when seeing videos of real animals....this is good as Doggie used to try to lick the squirrel that I would play on the old laptop.

Do you want CK to replace Hilary?

"Is Caroline Kennedy like Sarah Palin?" This almost sounds like a bunch of one-liners in a way. Why would you compare Caroline Kennedy to Jennifer Lopez? The Palin comparison I can see for someone who doesn't know much about CK. I actually do not know much about CK...but I would assume that being from a political family she is informed on several issues and has participated in many projects to help people. I do not know how devoted to helping others she is or isn't...but I am going to learn more about her. I doubt that I will ever compare her to Jennifer Lopez though.

Bring back my Valentine.

The pilot episode of Valentine. This show has been canceled. I would like to have either the remaining 4 episodes to be aired or the show to be continued in some way. The show has a lot of moments that truly make me laugh and reminded me that I enjoy reading mythology.
Parental guidance suggested.

I like that by the second episode the bit about Euripides at the beginning is taken out....much more tasteful. Nisha is an adorable character.
Ambition Killed The Cat - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever
Clever shirt.Poor cat. This can now be purchased as a wall graphic. It would go well with this Birds of a Feather Mobile.

Have You Ever Met Someone Via the Internet???

These days it seems that everyone around me has a friend (or even a significant other) that they have met online. I suppose that this does have its place if handled safely....and could be safer than regular dating if handled properly. This is a surprising change of stance from me...but I have seen a few times where this has amounted to wonderful friendships/relationships.

There are, of course, many communities for meeting people online. One of the newest (and thus far tamer) sites that I have seen is Friendsation. Friendsation is free and features several ways to talk with (hopefully) interesting people. I think at times this might be good....considering how busy people are in their everyday lives and then how much time they spend online. Modern times can be pretty lonely.

Signup for Friendsation is free. There are a variety of ways to Chat (and maybe eventually end up Dating). Members can talk via IM,chatrooms or live Phone Chat...all free.

The site also offers personals listings and blogging. If nothing will certainly get to know yourself better.

HAVE YOU EVER MET A SIGNIFICANT OTHER OR FRIEND ONLINE??? Please share your experiences...good,bad,funny. :-)

In My Life.....

-----One of my favorite memes is ending. No more Thursday Thirteens. :-(
-----We just got done with our holiday shopping!!!
-----Why must Doggie grab/chew hair combs??? Doggie, of course, has mapped out and targeted the Christmas presents......and will attempt to grab and chew those, too.
-----The first of the Holiday guests arrives this week.
-----Doggie just grabbed a Christmas present price tag and took off running. Doggie likes to hide/eat/cherish paper. I have read that 20% of a dog's diet is paper.

Shiny Copper Sinks :-)

Copper Sinks catch my eye and I would imagine that they are pleasing to touch.

The idea of having a Copper Sink is a new one to me. I have only seen copper sinks in older decorating magazines...and I suspect that they were not as high a quality as what is now available. I like the bathroom/kitchen sinks that are functional as well as artistic....that is why I am considering a copper sink as an option.

This evening I am browsing I like that there is a traditional selection (round/oval bathrooms sinks in a variety of sizes) but they can also look into doing something more custom. I think custom may be the route that we eventually go with most aspects of our kitchen sink and of a few elements of our kitchen that I am less than thrilled with.

I am somewhat intrigued by a sink that I saw on here with a large basin and then a smaller basin...all curved. The curves/beautiful coloring would fit in well with much of my kitchen. I think that it is also a really good price (not something you usually hear me say about any furniture-type piece).
Copper Kitchen Sinks

I am putting a kitchen sink replacement higher on the list than the bathroom.....though our bathroom sink has some flaws. With the bathroom I am looking at something like a floral-etched basin. I am struck by the gentle beauty of how copper sinks appear when pictures are etched on them.

My thoughts:

I like the idea of putting a tennis ball in a sock. I have just started doing this with a bone toy. This gives Doggie something new to think about without having to go buy another toy. Of course, one must keep all other socks off the floor after implementing this idea. Our Doggie will eat socks. Good for socks that are damaged.

Time for parties.... :-)

This week I need to get decorations for a small party that we are having for some of our Christmas visitors. It will be an unusual party as it will be split off-and-on over several days and the plans will likely change as people decide when/if they are coming. I am flexible with celebrations....and I really love to celebrate.

One friend may read this...but not to worry as whatever I do will likely change. We miss our friends who have moved away....and are glad that people care enough to come visit at Christmas-some over LONG distances.

Highlights of my plans thus far:
-----At least one Bento Box lunch. I love the detail that goes into such (shaped food and so on). One breakfast with the works. Lots of desserts....I will be uber-baking.
-----Fun Christmas music tailored to each person visiting.
-----A pinata....I got the idea from Now I need to figure out what to put in it that might please an adult. I also have to figure out where there would be enough space/hanging apparatus that nothing would get damaged. Considering my concerns, I might have to see if I can come up with some way of re-interpreting a pinata.
-----Husband and I will have our own tree trimming....I will keep in mind some of the suggestions here. We will, however, have each guest who would enjoy such make an ornament.

In My Life.....

-----We are going to look for a seat belt device to keep Doggie safer in the car. I know such exist.
-----I bought espresso shot glasses today. :-)
-----Our tree is up...only lights right now as we figure out what to do. Doggie seems to have gotten used to the lights. What is your Christmas tree like?
-----The number of guests that we are having for Christmas keeps changing....over and over.
-----I don't know what to get Doggie for Christmas yet.
-----I have started listening to a band called Dengue Fever.

I need so many and later.

We do not currently have a bar at our house....but eventually will. Right now we just dispense libations from various storage areas in the kitchen. :-) I am very picky about bar stools and it will likely take me a while to find some that I like. I don't like feeling that I am high up and only like armless stools if they are exactly the right height (and then I only like them for short periods of time).

I am looking for a variety of seating options for my future home bar, for my home barista setup (to have people over for Cuppings) and for my future home bar. That's a lot of things to find chairs for-definitely glad that Premiere offers free shipping when you order four or more barstools. :-)

I intend to have Cuppings (in this case demonstrations where I show people different skills/coffees. Ideal this would involve the purchase of 2 or 3 counter stools for the kitchen. Something that could be moved around I don't want my other chairs to get banged up.
-----I am leaning towards these backless wood stools. I like the curved seat for comfort and the way that it will look when not being used (almost artistic).
-----When I introduce new products to my store, I will also have testers evaluate beforehand. I like these white counter stools for that. I would likely keep them somewhere with a cloth over them when not in use....I am way too hard on most practical items.

Some of the barstools on this site would also be good for my artistic activities. I can use some of the plainer stools to sit and paint or to put an item on for sculpture/photography. :-) I know many artists who have several barstools for just such uses.
-Plain wooden stools for under $100 would be best for this type of use.

As for the homebar, I want something enclosed with both workspace and space for small groups of people (to congregate from the serving area to other seating options). I think that this enclosed pub bar is a beautiful and perfect option. This will give me room to be the mad scientist that I am when it comes to mixing drinks and room to indulge my love of beautiful bottles/glasses.
-----What do I mean by mad scientist? This evening I will be drinking Romulan Ale mixed with some Polynesian-type drink that I made. This is something we combined from two different evenings and put in the fridge until it seemed like the appropriate time to try. Due to the pineapple it is kind of slushy. I think it will taste good.
-----I will have to figure out some way to make a large fridge fit in with the whole pub setup.

I started the evening thinking picking a bar stool is easy. I now know that there are so MANY choices.

Thursday Thirteen.... :-)

1. Zookoda....a service for making a newsletter of what is happening on your blog. It's free and someday, when I have the time, I will start doing this. :-)

2. More and more uninsured people are having to turn to getting care at the ER.

3. We continue to remodel:
-----I mainly like antique furniture....but I am going to have husband make me a bookcase(s) somewhat like this Blu Dot Totem Bookcase. Obviously, my bookcase will not be made out of steel. :-) We have a closet that is often open where we would like to redo one wall-I am going to run the idea of Isabella wallpaper past my husband for this.
-----For some reason I like this white contemporary counter stool. I don't know what I would do with it/them though.
-----LATER: Well....I guess I am glad that I was contemplating new bookcases. The shelf on one of mine decided to have a almost devastating accident and is now on the temporary mend. I had a lot of very sentimental items on the shelf. Now I have to have a new bookcase. Life is odd.

Reading an article about how olives have been used throughout most of history. The picture above is a salad with martini vinaigrette dressing that we made as a part of dinner one evening. I am going to research how to grow olives/make olive oil.

I enjoyed the second episode of "Secret Millionaire." Though I tried to remember the message, the first episode was pretty boring for me. Regarding this episode, I am not sure how someone can spend 4 or 5 thousand dollars on dinner....multiple people involved?

8. Win Sammy Hagar's new album

9. I am having Coffee 2.0 today....a coffee designed inspired by bloggers.

10. Stash Tea recipe: Black Currant Escape

11. Was Captain Bligh as cruel as he was depicted to be in Mutiny on the Bounty?

12. Stocking Stuffers:
-----Toast-shaped bandages
-----Jewels ice cube tray
-----Bacon and egg bandages

13. Blunder of the week:
I spilled a mug of tea in my purse. The tea had honey so I had to clean everything out very thoroughly. Sort of glad this happened...found a key that was missing (long story). Sometimes, a blunder is good.

Pretty eyeglasses for the holidays.

I sometimes visit the popular online eyeglasses shop Zenni Optical. I am trying to figure out if the would be able to fill my prescription and will have to e-mail them about this. If Zenni is able to help me, I am excited because I will be able to add to my eyeglass wardrobe...which will make me smile.

Right now I have three pairs of glasses....two of which need new lenses and will make my eyes worse should I wear them. Hence, needing to e-mail Zenni about the prescription.

Zenni is so affordable....they eliminate all the middle men in sending you the glasses. :-) Currently I spend hundreds of dollars for a pair of glasses. Zenni has several glasses that are only $8.00. Zenni also has themed frames, like Holiday frames, that don't cost an arm and a leg.

I think that Holiday frames from Zenni are a great gift idea...if you have access to the person's prescription info. I am not sure if Zenni offers gift certificates...I will have to look at that. A person could always make a handmade gift certificate for a new glasses set/wardrobe....that would be a sweet way to present it even if Zenni has gift certificates. :-)

Holiday Glass Frames From Zenni Optical

This is a pair that I am fascinated with....though I probably couldn't do them if the beads are even slightly delicate as I am a clutz. I think this would make a good gift for someone who like to make jewelry.

Perfect for Christmas,St. Patrick's Day and if you wear a lot of green. Also ideal if you happen to be a female Leprechaun. :-)

-----$ 8 Complete Rx Eyeglasses
-----Zenni offers free anti-scratching coating. They also offer free UV protection...something we should still remember to think about in the Winter.

I hope that your current glasses look good in all your Holiday photos. :-)

In My Life.....

-----After three years, my Wandering Jew Plant is pretty near dead. It got some sort of blight and I can't figure out what it was. :-(
-----We are doing pretty good with our Holiday shopping. At this point, we are only anxious about two items arriving on time. How is your Holiday stress level?
-----We received our first Christmas Card today. :-)
-----I am happy that Leno will still be at NBC.
-----I love watching "Stylista." I am not really into being much as having the look of my clothes be something that doesn't bore me/actually intriques me. I am learning a lot about how to layout things.....which can carry over to my blog posts.
-----I am a Maker's Mark Ambassador. Today they sent gift wrap, tags and bows...all Maker's Mark theme. I have a friend this would be perfect to wrap their present in. I am going to include a small bottle of Maker's Mark. :-)

I was going to put up a picture of my Wandering Jew plants in better days. Somehow I ended up with this cabbage rose that I took a photo of a few years ago. I decided to leave this. Pretty. :-)

For the readers who are parents....Zwaggle

Some of the things I saw currently available:
-----Hooked on Phonics Set

Besides partnering with US Airways Divendend Miles program (offers a discount on LifeLock), Lifelock is now sold at Best Buy. LifeLock is America's Number 1 Identity Theft Protection Program.

Very surprisingly, Identity Theft has become the number 1 crime in the nation....even more than the drug dealers. I thought this woman at the store was not exactly sane when she was talking to me about "back before everyone started stealing everyone's identity"....I guess her paranoia was understandable.

My opinion of the benefits:
-----The top benefit for me is the fact that not only are lost/stolen card and documents replaced.....but the fraud alerts are also renewed for you. I think a lot of identity thieves are hackers (some of whom are identity thieves).
-----ERecon. I think this is great because not all companies actually obey their own privacy statement....and not everyone has the time to police this.
-----I like some solicitation, I guess that I would like to have LifeLock have an option where you can pick some services that you are offered. I have come so close to suiing some companies who test my last nerve about the Do Not Call list....I just don't have that kind of time.

I wonder if Life Lock is sold at the checkout counter at Best Buy. I will have to blog about it when I see it. :-)

LifeLock Reviews

In My Life.....

Most of my first round of Christmas cactus blossoms are now wilted. There are a few more to go though. :-)

This is the photo that I took before the wilted. Doesn't it almost look like a Christmas card? :-)

Yes, I plan to change to a bigger pot. This plant usually hangs down over a book shelf. The cloth is a photo drop that I bought to showcase some green flourite (rocks) that I am having a hard time photographing.

Secret Millionaire.....

I had never seen this show before. I think that maybe the Millionaire can help more than one group of people that they meet....I am not sure though. An un-scripted show. Nice. I wish that more million/billionaires did this on a routine basis...without a TV show to be on.

I haven't watched this second episode yet. I think though that the first show kind of dragged on...or maybe it's just that I am tired. I would like this show to inspire not just the wealthy.

LifeLock.....ongoing identity theft protection is good.

I read today that LifeLock will be partnering with US Airways to offer Dividend Mile program members a discount on identity protection. The only Frequent Flier program that I am a member of is Delta. I wish that LifeLock would do the same with Delta....but maybe I will have to look into getting a US Airways membership.

Lifelock is America's Number 1 Identity Theft Protection Program. Perhaps you have seen the CEO Todd Davis on TV....he has been brave enough to post his social security number in many public places (that confident in the product).

-Replaces documents and cards if your purse/wallet is lost or stolen. I could have used this at one point (purse stolen). LifeLock also places and renews the fraud alerts (you don't have to be worried about forgetting to renew them).
-Does "ERecon"...scans the Internet for your private info.
-Removes your name from phone solicitation and junk mail lists. This of course keeps you from being added to even more of these lists.

This kind of service is helpful to those with a lot of documents/cards to protect. I also think that there will be a lot more identity theft as the economy worsens.

Question: Do you have a routine/services to protect your identity?

In My Life.....

-----Husband went to Home Depot. I was cleaning closets and found some never before used outdoor Christmas decorations. Waiting to see if he notices that I decorated. :-)
-----Hauling out the winter soap dispensers....meaning some festively colored hand pumps that I recycle each year. I am Thrifty Girl. :-)
-----I will likely be taking some design classes this upcoming year. I need to figure out where to put my drafting board. It is amazing how hard it can be to find room for something.
-----Another closet-cleaning treasure: Purple and black Halloween hair wig...never worn. I have a passion for fun wigs...and making people laugh by wearing them at the most unexpected times. :-)

The safe way to give Gift Cards this year. :-)

It is sad that one has to research before giving gift cards this year...but that is the way that the economy is. I agree with a lot of the people that I have had smalltalk about the holidays with...Visa gift cards are a good choice this year. allows one to personalize the image on the gift card. I like this....much more creative than just giving money (or even a standard gift card). Embossed messages can also be added to the cards.....nice to see the message of love as your gift is used.

If you do not have an image in mind to upload (for placement on the card), GiftCardLab has a large design gallery to choose from.

-----Unlike a regular gift card, this is FDIC-insured. That gives a lot more reassurance than the almost-gambling that gift cards are right now. Sadly, the first thing I would do if I received a gift card this year would be to research the company....and then spend it quickly. FDIC-insured=much better. :-)
-----Unlike regular gift cards, the balance and transactions can be checked online.
-----Cards can be issued in amounts from $10 to $250.
-----Cards cost $5.95 and arrive in 5-10 business days. Cards can be sent to the recipient or to yourself (so you can present it). The exception being if you purchase more than 5 cards at one time or a card over $100...these have to go to the purchaser's billing address.
-----The cards are not re-loadable...I wish that there were a way to do this.I guess you can always buy another card for the next occasion. :-)

Designs I like:
-----Santa holding a gasoline can
-----Ornaments.The snowflake and the color are pretty.
-----Bride & teddy bears.

There is still time to order a gift card before Christmas. :-)

Of course, Visa is accepted in so many places. The recipient could even use it to pay off some bills and debt.

Thursday Thirteen....

I have just started watching the show "30 Days." I have a lot of episodes to catch up on....this is the first one on "Minimum Wage."
-----Of course I like that the song "Minimum Wage" by "They Might Be Giants" was used.
-----When was the last time you made a budget?...and how did that go???
-----I was reading more about Free Shops. It would be nice if there were more of these.

2. Top 10 Stupid give for Christmas. I can't imagine the gum being good...the article says it is, so I will have to try it sometime.

3. The National Museum of Funeral History adds a Vatican exhibit.

The "Off the Grid" episode of 30 Days.
-----It is my aim to eventually recycle everything....but I have not been able to bring myself to even consider human-waste-recycling options.
-----I would have some sanitary concerns about the bathroom. Thyroid-issues make my immune system not work as well...and the bathroom set-up just doesn't seem sanitary.
-----I need to start doing some research on the government incentives offered for using solar panels. I also want to look into ways of eating meat that put less strain on the environment.
-----Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage....this is where they stayed in this episode.

5. I was happy to find that ScreenLife Games lets you test out several of their games online. I amused myself with a little Friends trivia. I own and love one of their games called Banzai.

6. Bird Network...the leading social network for bird enthusiasts. I would love to have a Birdie. Doggie would love to eat/traumatize a Birdie. I think this Dog VS. Bird hurdle is insurmountable for now....maybe someday when Doggie is less I-chase/bark-at-almost-all-other animals. :-) Our Doggie says "I Love You" and we could teach Birdie....them saying this back and forth to each other would make me smile. :-)

-----What was that thing on top of the cat's head when animal research was being talked about???
-----The walkway of the Californian family that George is staying with is beautiful.
-----The "Chicken's Revenge" made me kind of squeamish. I don't think I would willingly portray either role.
-----The video made me think. Biblically,I do think that we were given animals for food and clothing. I do not know that this is totally necessary now. I am definitely for attempts at more compassionate treatment of animals.
-----I would rescue another human being before my pet...I would feel like this was a moral duty. I know that I would likely be trying to comfort the pet at the same time I was rescuing the human. I would also have a lot of sorrow/praying for the pet after.
-----Sometimes I have a problem with when people try to be "merciful" and put their pets to sleep. Sometimes, this choice seems to be way too convenient to them to be an act of compassion.
-----Animal Acres....rescue/refuge for farm animals.
-----The cruel handling (and sometimes the truly callous disposal) of animals is UNNECESSARY.
-----Sugar was really beautiful. I find a lot of cows to be beautiful. For some reason, I like this photo of a cow taking a sun bath in France.
-----I am glad that I watched this video.

8. Economy:
-----Will this Presidential Inauguration involve less expense than normal? light of the fact that there is a recession.
-----Though I will feel embarrassed, I am going to offer my nice friend at work this coupon that I have for a $1.00 off feminine products that I won't have time to use before expiration. A $1.00 off is a big coupon. I encourage everyone to find a home for their unusable coupons...especially the really good/necessary product coupons.

9. Woman celebrates Christmas with 80-year-old tree. I hope that it is in good enough condition to pass on to someone in her family...heirloom. She looks kind of sad in the can tell she misses her Husband. Hugs to her.

10. Top 100 Living Geniuses. Are there any people on this list that you disagree should be there?

11. The stories about Obama's birth certificate will never die????? I am actually still getting e-mails about this.

12. "Aisle," "monarch," and "altar" are just a few of the words taken out of one of the most popular child's dictionaries. Words like "acorn" and "fern" are gone, too.

13. Patrick Swayze has confirmed that, contrary to tabloids, he is not in his last moments. Now, it is being said that he is looking to adopt???

-----Men can breastfeed. Every time I tell a man this, they either say that I am incorrect or express how they absolutely won't do so.

Title: Maya Calendar
Description: Artifact of Maya Calendar in a sunray

-----December 1-7: Train Week! at Habitot Children's Museum in Berkeley,CA. Perfect for ages 1-6. I think the small-scale locomotive rides are the best part.
-----December 5: OJ Simpson sentencing. It's not far away.
-----December 10: The US will have a military execution...the first in MANY years.

-----December 16-18: "I Am Jesus Christ"....a short film musical at The Dark Room Theatre in San Francisco. Tickets are affordable.
"14 Songs. 14 Minutes. 1 Lonely Messiah. This comically endearing musical tells the story of Jesus returned to earth at Christmastime to battle greedy corporate types and toy-crazy tykes in an effort to share his message of love with the world."

-----What are your goals for the New Year?
-----January is National Soup Month. Expect me to blog a lot about soup....and have a lot of results for my freezer. :-)

-----Sometime: There is to biographical film about Sam Kinison coming out. It will air on HBO. I wonder if they could get the actual celebrities for the "Wild Thing" video.

What's happening in your life (and on your blog)??? :-)

New glasses for Christmas.....great outfit/gift idea.

The popular online eyeglasses shop Zenni Optical (whom I have mentioned to readers before) brought up an intriguing idea. Their glasses are so inexpensive, you really could splurge and get a new set of frames for the Holidays. Considering how much many people have to spend on glasses, this would be a GREAT gift idea, too.

Holiday Glass Frames From Zenni Optical

I like these frames. I have never seen anything like them before.Beaded accents on glasses...neat. A good gift idea for the crafty friend who likes to make jewelry.

-----$ 8 Complete Rx Eyeglasses
-----Something that has got me excited is that their anti-scratch coating is free....the last pair that I had have this cost a LOT of money.UV protection is also free. :-)
-----With such good prices, you could actually pick out a pair of glasses specifically to look good in photos. :-) :-)

Curious as a Cat Meme.....

It's Week Number 146. This is a fun meme.

1) What is the most unbelievable thing you have ever witnessed?
SEVERAL situations like the recent Walmart stampede where the man was crushed to death. I have seen store visits/employment result in death on multiple occasions. I have seen children (and adults) severely injured. I have seen shoppers and employee NOT CARE and even get angry that a medical emergency was interrupting their shopping experience. I AM NOT KIDDING. I am so sad about the Walmart incident.
-----I have helped as much as I could during these incidents...some of which I was the only one helping. Off the top of my head, I can think of 10 times where I have seen people utterly disregard a life-and-death situation....and I am sure there are more. :-(
-----I have never seen anything caused by the actions of others (like the Wal-mart stampede) but I just don't understand how people can actually try to interrupt medical efforts so they can continue about their day-to-day routine (not wanting to wait a little longer to shop, eat, travel, etc.) If they guessed the outcome of their actions (or heard it on the news), at least some of the people I have encountered might change their attitudes about Life. It really is pretty much impossible to prosecute people who do stuff like this. :-(
-----Thinking about this further...another thing that infuriates me is people who cut into a funeral procession and almost cause accidents so that they can get somewhere faster. I actually had someone do this at a loved one's funeral and then catch our that we could see they were laughing.

2) If you could change your identity completely (money no object), what would the new you be like?
Sometimes I would like to go back and undo all tragedies in my life and the lives of my loved ones...but I guess that would require super powers and hard decisions (good things that we value dearly often come out of the bad things). Well, since I won't be endowed with superpowers in the foreseeable future, I would do a lot of humanitarian things. I would send a lot of anonymous care packages to specific people that I had found out about in ramshackle villages. In my personal life, I would have an aviary filled with the most unusual bird houses. I would have a very large stone wall around my house....for a rose garden and to protect me from this ever-more-dangerous world we live in. I would spend my days being an Internet activist about the causes that I believe is amazing how much you can help others via the Internet if you care enough to try. The new me would travel...A LOT. The new me sounds a lot like the old me....but with more financial resources.

3) What would you do if you saw someone making fun of another person?
The only time I ever see this is at work and these are the "superiors" of the person(s) being bothered. I stand up for them when I can and say something about the unfairness of it to them afterward if I can't. I long for a day when I make enough money, through writing and other activities, when I don't have to have a job to fall back on. I hate what people do to each other out in the Work World.

4) If you could go back to the Garden of Eden and talk to Adam and Eve for five minutes, what would you say?
I don't like Winter. I think that you caused Winter.Odd coincidence, I was thinking about Winter earlier today and if it was Adam and Eve's fault....if there would have been a Winter in the Garden of Eden. I am not sure what else I would say.

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

The first thing I wondered was if the box was getting married. The box has chosen an unusual color scheme. Perhaps that man is officiating the marriage of the box and The Little Mermaid will soon come up the aisle at a dress rehearsal. The color scheme looks like something The Little Mermaid would use. :-) the best price for car repairs.

We have all been ABSOLUTE need of a sudden car repair. If you have Internet access, it might help to quickly look at Unlike, the local auto dealership (or even some repair shops),RepairPal makes an effort to be accurate and un-biased...something I really appreciate. Car repair is so expensive....and with many cars repairs start to become part of the regular cycle.

Car repair estimates can be sent in a printable version to your computer...this might help in getting price matches. This might help in unfortunate situations where the only way to get a good price is to take a small road trip.

Auto repair shops can be searched by zip code and keyword. I wish though that more of the ratings info was filled in....perhaps, that will come with time. I was searching for small towns that I have been to and that might make the difference, too.

I like that the site has a reminder is easy to forget oil changes and so on.

-----This is a service for the U.S. There has been great interest from Canada. RepairPal plans to cover Canada as soon as they can. Gathering all this info seems a daunting will be interesting to watch as the site grows. :-) RepairPal is in Beta.
-----Tips on buying car tires. Bad car tires can cause crashes. RepairPal has an Auto Repair Encylopedia with hints on many different repair issues.

Some Topics from RepairPal's Encyclopedia: on brake pad replacement.
-----All sorts of info on heating and air conditioning. I don't know why but having the heater or air conditioner break seems to be a theme for us. That is an expensive we definitely seek out estimates on that one.
-----There are a host of things in here that I know absolutely nothing about. I need to browse through here to get more educated on cars. :-)

In My Life.....

-----More remodeling. 12:24 in the morning and we are hanging shelves in one of the closets. :-)
-----My Christmas cactus has bloomed early....but I am pretty much certain is a Christmas cactus (and not a Thanksgiving). Purchased at Christmas about 3 years ago and it was labeled as a Christmas cactus. I guess this is either a fluke in blooming or a result of the way I take care of it. There are a lot of blooms. :-)
-----Eggnog and amaretto=good. We have a backup container of eggnog for when we run out. Unfortunately, we only had enough amaretto left for a little. Must put amaretto on shopping list.
-----Listened to the album version of "Gotta Be Somebody" by Nickelback. It was OK....a lot of Nickelback songs that I enjoy more. Kind of nice for a fast slowdance song. I can imagine it being in a movie...the part where the hero/heroine is lonely and longing for true love. :-)
-----Co-workers can be so asinine for no logically reasonable reason. I hate that mine know I will work hard....and are EXTREMELY lazy on the days I work. Then when I come to work on a day off because I forgot something....they treat me so coldly because they have to work like a person who wasn't taking advantage of my work ethic would. I treat all of them beyond-super-kind. :-( Apparently, I do not have a membership in the We-Think-We're-God's-Gift-to-the-World-and-You-Should-Too-Club.
