This American Conservative HAS to try a new blogroll approach.

Well, we are going to try this for a while with the blogrolls....as Blogrolling is SEVERELY blogging down my blogs. The blogrolls that I am going to keep will be in posts....which means that I will actually post about the topics on a regular basis. I am conservative politically....but not Blogically. :-)

So I will start keeping an "I AM" section in my sidebar....that section will provide a link to my most recent coverage of each blogroll and its topic. This should make it so I can keep my beloved blogrolls and not deal with them crippling my blog....I hope.

Admin. Note

Twitter has been down a lot this evening. The Voxant Newsroom is down for maintenance and/or capacity problems. My carbon offset widget is causing some sort of problem. I am working as quickly as I can to temporarily remove and/or put the offensive issues into draft status. My blog will look a little leaner until this is fixed. I have my angry face on now.

Update: Blog loading properly now. The major problem was Twitter's widget. As much as I love Twitter, the widget WILL NOT be on my blog again until the service is more stable. My blog was literally unloadable for about 4 hours this evening....unless, you consider three minutes an acceptable load time.

If I hadn't had a reader point this out (and insomnia)....I would have been REALLY upset next time I checked in.

-----"The Letter"....short story. A letter I certainly wouldn't like to get. Clever author. Life does have a lot of cruel coincidences like this sometimes.
-----An open letter to the Marketing Department of Netflix

I enjoy decorating and find home staging fascinating. :-)

Thursday Thirteen

1. MY NATIONAL HERITAGE DAY PETITION:
I am a fledgling petition writer now. Recently, I have been reading about efforts to make St. Patrick's Day a National Holiday. I think that all ethnicities should be recognized/celebrated (if any are). I have created a petition to make a National Heritage Day in the United States...other less-melting-pot countries have one. Please, sign my petition (and ignore my ignorance of conventions such as the target being something like "U.S. Congress"). I promise I will be much better at writing petitions before I send something off to U.S. Congress. :-)

2. MY INVESTMENT:
I am a fledgling micro-business investor now. I won a Kiva gift certificate via Solomon Broad's blog, "Things I am Grateful For." Kiva works by dividing the loan amount among a bunch of lenders....you can lend as little as 25 dollars...there is a VERY low default rate.I invested my certificate by giving to a woman named Marina who needs money to fill orders for her shoe sale efforts. The money has been disbursed and Marina is in here repayment period....I am cheering for her!

3. THE ARTIST I WANT TO SEE:
Leonard Nemoy Photography. In my ideal world, I will get to see Leonard Nimoy give a lecture on his art someday.

4. MADE ME SMILE:
"The One With the Spoiled Brat"...something I read yesterday. My reaction was "Good for the flight attendants!"

5. I HOPE TO ATTEND:
The musical done by John Mellencamp and Stephen King...yes, you read that right.

6. SPEAKING OF MELLENCAMP:
He probably didn't want John McCain using his music for campaigning and McCain agreed to stop playing it.
Via these articles, I found out that McCain may not be my ideal candidate...those who labor in this country already have a tough enough time without having a candidate who is not going to seek fair practices for them.

7. SPEAKING OF LABOR:
Every Labor Day that I am senselessly working, I resent the treatment that those who labor get in this country. I work retail...there is no reason it is necessary for the majority of employees that are non-essential (not emergency services, etc.)to be "thanked" and retail employees to never receive that Thank You. When I started working retail, we did not work on Labor Day, then it was quietly phased in....for profit.

8. IN OTHER MUSICAL HAPPENINGS:
Dylan and Bowie will be on "Heroes" soundtrack.

9. DO YOU AGREE?

If it is a post of the person themselves, should there be child porn charges? Is there another way to solve this or another charge that is more appropriate? Perhaps a rather graphic class on what happens when such pictures get into the wrong hands (in loo of criminal charges)? I would assume that these photos are being sent to multiple people and not just a boyfriend/girlfriend. What do you think about this issue?????

10. FUN OR NOT?
Are you enjoying your Winter?

11. RECALL:

12. COME TO A PARTY:
Ultimate Blog Party 2008
-----I attended last year and had a lot of fun. I even won some really colorful felt. It's a great way to meet other bloggers and have a lot of people take a look at your blog.
-----Sorry to my male readers....it's a womens' only event.

13. What has/will make you smile today?

Campaign to Make St. Patrick's Day a National Holiday
I Have a Different Idea.

I do think that the Irish went through a lot to get here...but so have a lot of other ethnicities.

We can only have so many holidays....there's no realistic way to give a National holiday to each one. Perhaps there should be a National Immigrant's Day or National Heritage Day.

Places like China town and so on could all have festivals on these days. These events would bring people together and be very educational. Everyone could celebrate their roots. :-)

I Googled it and found that other countries do have Heritage Days. :-)

P.S. The website for the St. Patrick's petition is actually Proposition317.com.
P.P.S. Please sign my petition for a National Heritage Day in the United States.

"The 32-year-old real estate developer told the Deseret Morning News that the last year spent helping his father with his White House bid equipped him with the skills he would need to seek office."
Sorapot Teapot...very modern design. I like the idea of being able to watch the tea leaves. There is a waiting list. If I owned this teapot, I would take a lot of pictures. :-)

It is good that this program will try to help some of the worst-addicted.

In My Life

-----I have a weird cold. Every time I am sitting down and lean my head back, I get dizzy. I think my sinuses are really messed up. At 10pm, I can take more NyQuill. Husband says he is getting dizzy, too.
-----We have "Ratatouille" and "Hairspray"....not sure which we are watching tonight. (It ended up being "Hairspray" and then a movie called "The Last Legion" about Excalibur and a little boy named Romulus,a descendant of Julius Caesar.)
-----Watched a bit of "My Dad is Better Than Your Dad" where the Dads were carrying scorpions around tonight. I liked that the child's fave band was "The Beatles." The tooth fairy paid twenty dollars for a tooth....WOW. They won 40-thousand dollars....but I would have to think hard about touching the scorpions.
-----Eating insects...I have never eaten any or had the opportunity to do so.
-----An easy way to make beef stew

Thursday Thirteen

1. Ever have a cold to the point of losing your voice and feel an insane urge to whistle. That happened to me today (Wed.) for some reason. I guess you can whistle despite having no voice. Odd things you never think about...until you experience them. :-)

2. The man who might be JFK's son has decided not to talk to the media for a while. I don't blame him. I do hope that situation gets figured out...family is family and a person should know. I am not fond of some of the Kennedys but I wish them and Jack Worthington's family virtual hugs right now.

I like adding to my HTML knowledge....I hate all the convoluted explanations and outdated code that some sites offer. I think this site is excellent for someone wanting a crash course. :-)

4. Celebrity Apprentice is on tonight (Thursday). I have been following and I am cheering for Omarosa to be fired. It is just the sometimes irrational stances and (sometimes) needless hostility. Anyway...this show has been interesting because there have been a lot of surprises.

5. I was looking at old "Burning Man" festival photos. I never realized that people walk around naked there.

6. Stocks and Brown Sauce 101

Terror suspects are allowed bail?????

Terror suspects are allowed to be out on bail? I am not saying that this man is guilty or innocent....nor do I have any idea specifically what "terror" he is being accused of. Either the terror can't be that terrible or the government in Canada is just overly trusting. Have you ever heard of a terror suspect being on bail and entrusted to the care of relatives?

Of course, I live in a country where murder suspects are allowed bail all the time. JusticeforHarkat.com states that he was accused of being an AlQaeda sleeper agent (so, there's the answer to my question of what the terror was) and details the measures that are being taken to detain him.

The detaining measures are pretty extensive but what is prohibiting him from becoming a danger to his relatives (who are "sureties") or keeping the relatives from communicating to other associates of his??? Imagine your feelings if you were a neighbor during all of this.

The treatment of some terror suspects here in the States is criticized as cruel. By the same token, perhaps the handling of terror suspects in some other countries is too lax. In Canada, Harkat is not the only suspect who has received bail and is under house arrest with relatives being "sureties."

I am, however, glad that Harkat has not, thus far, been deported back to Algeria (where his fate would be dire-he came to Canada as a political refugee).

Yes, this was about a week ago, but I had to post this. I have never seen anything like that.

I armchair travel through the Blogosphere.

Winter in Dubai

Since, the political situation just about everywhere is pretty volatile right now....I will be staying right here, in the United States. I do like to armchair travel though...mainly through blogs and sending for travel literature. One of my longterm goals has been to write a book series called "The Armchair Traveler" where I take people on trips...even if I am just sharing my imaginary journeys. :-)

The Bush Endorsement of McCain

The elder George Bush and Jeb Bush endorse McCain. I suppose the current President Bush does too.

The Republican Party's conservatives still seem to be undecided on their nomination. Does Huckabee still have a chance?...he has said that he will not be giving up and staying in the race until November. Huckabee seems to be, wisely or stubbornly, ignoring "the writing on the wall" as far as his chances of winning.

Anyway....some say that McCain will be an extension of Bush. He has shown that he disagrees with Bush on some issues in the past (such as tax cuts). I am undecided as to how similar to Bush he will be...I think that my choice on McCain will primarily come down to deciding if I trust him or not.

I wonder what McCain said that has Bush laughing in the article's photo. :-)

Thank You to all my wonderful readers from "My Blog Log."

More on Huckabee's bowling

I decided to see if Huckabee was a good bowler after seeing the above photo. It turns out that he challenged the press to a bowling game. The last part of this is romantic...the romantic part didn't involve the press challenge (if you haven't clicked on the link already).

I was glad to see a politician's more human side. Typically politicians are only portrayed as monsters or buffoons in the media.

On the Super-Human side, Huckabee was endorsed by Chuck Norris. (video)
:-)

Note: Not any kind of endorsement. I have no idea who I am voting for.

I made one of those adult revelations...I guess I had a crush on Christian Slater's style when I was growing up...now I realize that he is NOT the best actor. Anyway... this movie had a great soundtrack but the storyline seemed to go on and on. There was a lot of violence...though not a movie full of gore. Some sexual exploits. How the Investment is Going

I won a Kiva gift certificate via Solomon Broad's blog, "Things I am Grateful For." I invested my certificate by giving to a woman named Marina who needs money to fill orders for her shoe sale efforts. It is nice to at least be able to do a little to help. It has been 9 days since all the money Marina needed was raised...I hope that business is going well for her.

Kiva works by dividing the loan among a bunch of people....you can lend as little as 25 dollars. There is a VERY low default rate.

Personally, I think Kiva gift certificates would make wonderful Valentine's certificates. :-)

I think there is a pretty good chance that they won't find out where her computer went...if it wasn't in the store, then (short of employee theft) I would assume that it went out of the store with another customer in some moment of incompetence. Maybe the computer got sent to another store...in a moment of incompetence. Maybe Best Buy looks at their Geek Squad area like a baggage carousel...sounds like it from the description of how much they feel liable for. I hope more effort has been made to locate her computer. That is a large amount to sue for but I would guess that there will be negotiations. I would have found the first action on the part of Best Buy intolerable....and maybe even the second depending on attitude displayed by the company. I don't think I would sue, but I would certainly start a campaign to have action taken....and not quit until I felt the issue was resolved. Then again, how many months can a company expect one to put up with something like this?

Willie Nelson's "Gravedigger"

This is the actual video. I am impressed....makes one really think of life and mortality. I thought that I caught an allusion to The Highwaymen in there...but I am not sure...it's just that one of the men at the funeral looked a lot like Johnny Cash to me.

Why would we even think President Bush was involved in this? The thought had not occurred to me....I naturally assumed some prosecutor or tribunal was calling for the death penalty.

I like Jabber better than Twitter.
-----Clipping Coupons tonight...local ad inserts, CouponSurfer,Better Homes and Gardens,Oprah's magazine (if there are any coupons there),All You magazine. Saving money is good. :-)

-----Watching anime....mainly just adverts/shorts to get people interested in the various anime....something Husband picked up at a Best Buy. I like the humorous anime. :-)
-----I have a couple of carnation arrangements that have stayed usable for a little over three weeks now. That brightens my day.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO???

APPARENTLY

-----Apparently Prince is going to tour again. He won a Grammy last night for a song called "Future Baby Mama"...what's that about?
-----Apparently John McCain may not meet the citizenship requirements to be President. I am in no way qualified to say if this is a legitimate concern. Husband says that if one is born on a United States base than one is a citizen....but what if it is just a property being leased by the military??? Like I said, I am in no way qualified to figure that out. Raises an interesting hypothetical...if a person who wasn't eligible to be President became President and then it was found that he/she wasn't actually able to meet all the qualifiers, would we remove them from office (even if they were doing a REALLY good job)???

Since when is "Assault the Firefighter" a good game?????

Assaulting firefighters as a recreational activity??? This is a serious and frequent concern in the UK and other countries.
Neat and simple reuse of a CD spindle

-----Will Japan eventually abolish the death penalty???
-----Scientology protests continue
-----Bush says that Cheney is the best Vice-President ever

Escaping death in burning buildings......

Somebody realizes that fireproof elevators would be a good idea.

Were the elevators in the World Trade Center fireproof????? Would there have been more survivors if there were?????

Husband says that tall buildings should have "building escape pods" on each floor. He doesn't know how that would work....maybe ejecting out the building or running out it on a track. Each escape pod would have independent operation (no collision). Then pretty much everyone would be safe. Somebody build escape pods please....maybe just large fireproof elevators on the side of the building.
Will Hillary and Obama eventually be on the same ticket? I know that people often point out that Clinton and Obama's voting record have been pretty similar. Maybe a joint run, with the bigger vote-getter as Presidental candidate, would work well....at least for them.

No MicroHoo (or YahSoft).

-----Google's response to the situation

It all reminds me strangely of the race for President.
-----VisualRecipes.com
-----Handpresso...a tool to have espresso on-the-go. I signed up for their newsletter.

I don't understand. If we get rid of the IRS and tax forms...will there be something to replace them? How will the things needed to run this country be funded? Donations? What is Huckabee saying is the solution?

I still have no idea whom I am voting for as President.

Extreme Animal Art

I managed to find the piece called "Popple." The name "Popple" sounded familiar...those reversible purses from many years ago. There are moments in the artwork transformation that get to me (read this as disturb me)...like the part where the dog head sticks up...the 15th photo.

The doctor said: "Take a little cow urine and call me in the morning."

JFK may have another son???

In My Life

-----The test results are in on the chupacabra. It may still be a chupacabra. Husband still thinks it's funny to call me a chupacabra when I talk about this.
-----Eventually I want to join the Frugal Hacks blogroll. I am passionate about frugality but I could be more passionate about it. My blog does not have an obvious frugality theme running through it....but it should. I will be on that blogroll someday.
-----Celebrity Apprentice is on tonight.
-----Besides me watching Apprentice, we are watching the second Highlander movie (having watched the first one last night). Lately, we are into re-watching series of movies.
-----"Lipstick Jungle" premieres tonight. This should have some interesting glimpses of what society is like right now. I am very into studying pop culture...which it seems is becoming increasingly snobbish (unfortunately). From what I have seen, the Andrew McCarthy character may be gentle and likable (plays a billionaire,if I remember correctly).
-----Snoopy exercising made me laugh. I always initially spell exercising as "excercising"...it is a little amusing to picture Snoopy excercising.

Something new at Disney.....

-----Disney to open "American Idol" simulation. By the way, did you know that it is no longer "Disney's MGM Studios" but "Disney's Hollywood Studios?"

I now have a Green blog!!!

"CO2Stats monitors how much electricity is being used to power your site, and then it "offsets" the emissions by investing in renewable energy projects that help to counteract global warming."

I like that this utility does not take long to load. I am forever finding something great but not being able to use it because the long load time essentially makes my blog inoperable.

This utility makes me feel good. I would like to know what advertisers participate in this program....so I can blog about them and/or right them letters of thanks. :-)

The only downside of this utility...it makes me think of how quickly my electric bill adds up.
-----On-again-off-again suspects in Natalee Holloway's disappearance sue Dr. Phil

Politics

-----Ballot stuffing in Colorado???
-----"Personal" phone calls from Mitt Romney
-----Dr. James Dobson does not want McCain as president.

This just in: Mitt Romney has dropped out of the race due to how he feels about the war in Iraq/terrorism.

Pretty Bowls of Green M&M's for me...

M & M's Green for Valentine's Day. I might get some. I don't believe that they're an aphrodisiac. Green is my favorite color and looking at them in a candy bowl would make me a little happy.

I don't think that I could eat rat meat.

I see a rat tail hanging down at the start of the video. As long as it was raised clean, the thing that would stop me from eating this is if the meat had a unpleasant smell. Well...I am probably talking big talk here...I would probably never try rat meat. The thought of the typical image of rats just disturbs me.

Thursday Thirteen.....

1. Should a 15-year-old receive the same punishment as anyone at Guantanamo? This is not the only young person that has been at Guantanamo by the way.

2. It cost taxpayer's $25,000 to get Britney Spears safely to the hospital. Now there is more concern about regulating paparazzi activity. I wish that there had been more concern before taxpayer money was pointed out.

3. Wow...actual hover cars. I hope that these have to be kept on regular roads....who would want to be playing at the park and get killed by a random hover car?

4. Okay, this does not make me feel secure about the accuracy of voting machines. I will be voting this year...but I have no idea who for.

5.

Julia Nunes. I like her style. Maybe, when I have learned to play my guitars well, I will take up the ukulele.

6. A bill that would ban ALL civil marriages in Maryland.

7. Willie Nelson's "GraveDigger" video. From what I understand, it is a cover of a Dave Matthews song.

8.

"Liverpool 8." This is from Ringo Starr's channel on YouTube. It is kind of pretty.

9. Something I had never heard about...The St.Paul Bouncing Girl. That looks like fun. I reluctantly have to say that I wouldn't try it due to the danger though. If I could land on inflatables...then I would love doing something like this.

10. Britney Spears has been released from the hospital. I hope with a good treatment plan and the will to get better....whatever it is that is wrong (I don't think that has ever been absolutely confirmed).

11. Disgusted by this show that is on tonight "The Moment of Truth"...a gameshow that uses polygraphs. Have you watched and what do you think of it? I think that some things are better left unsaid...especially when they are only being revealed for the entertainment of others.I don't think that polygraphs are super reliable. A lot of these questions could really cause pain for others...as I said, better left unsaid. How do you find people for a show like this anyway? Do they provide counseling afterwards? Will it be the end of the show if someone comes on the show and lies...but the detector says they are telling the truth? How can they prevent violent reactions after the show? A more apt name for the show would be "True but Cruel" and the last questions should be "Do you resent needing the money enough to do this show? Do you feel like you are being used for the entertainment of others? Do you think people "forgave" you for the answers because of the money at stake? Did you see or sense pain from your loved ones during this show? Are you going to regret what was said here for the rest of your life?"
"Do you blame your father for tearing your family apart?"
"Do you use lack of money as an excuse to keep from proposing to ____?"
"In the past year, have you sent flirtatious text messages to anyone other than ____?"
"Would you cheat on your wife if you wouldn't get caught?"
-----And the announcer claims that this is the most popular new TV show in America.
-----I wonder how many people would go on this show twice?

12. I have a new nail polish that I like. It is a clear polish...more like a top coat. "Love My Nails: Crazy About You." The "Crazy About You" part comes from the little red metallic hearts floating in the clear liquid. At the start of using it you have to work on skewering the hearts but once the bottle is stirred up a while (the shaking doesn't help), you start getting a few hearts each dip. I worked with it and put random hearts on my fingers...pretty. I did my nail polish subtly...let us see if Husband notices.

13.

Chad Vader (lesser known brother of Darth) being interviewed by "Obama Girl."

Roses are red. Roses are blue.

Questions:
A)Would you buy such a rose? Why/why not?
B)How much would you pay for a blue rose?

Husband and I are wondering if this Japanese blue rose will be available as a bush??? I know that the article says its target audience will be those who buy luxury cut stems.

I already make my roses blue (photographically). This is a red rose that my husband presented me with a while back. My "blue" roses make me happy. :-)

The O.J. Trial Saga (Volume 2)

-----Unsurprisingly, O.J. doesn't want the killings he was once accused of to be mentioned at his new trial. Of course, he would also like to have several of the charges dropped.
-----"My refrigerator magnet supports O.J. Simpson."

The Endangered Polar Bear

I had blogged about how many people wanted to see the polar bear on the Endangered Species list...apparently, this addition to the list is wanted soon.

Brain boost or not...I wish I had time to play video games.

Cell phones

-----At what age should children be allowed to have cell phones?
-----I was reading yesterday about how cell phones might cause insomnia. I don't think that I ever talk on my cell phone before bed. A lot of people keep the cell phone by the bed for emergencies...and I doubt that they would be easily convinced to do otherwise.

Calendar

The investing adventure continues...

I won a Kiva gift certificate via Solomon Broad's blog, "Things I am Grateful For." I invested my certificate by giving to a woman named Marina who needs money to fill orders for her shoe sale efforts. I hope that this goes well and that I am able to reinvest in another micro-business. I will keep you all informed. It is nice to at least be able to do a little to help.

Update: Marina is COMPLETELY FUNDED!!! I wish her the best of luck with her business. :-)

Stallone as Rocky? Again? and Again?

-----Stallone addresses Myanmar officials.

Be careful with baby lotions.

ELVIS

-----Priscilla Presley may do "Dancing With the Stars." I wonder if there will be any Elvis songs during those episodes?
-----Video of Faith Hill singing "That's Alright Mama"

In My Life...

-----Watching "The Sara Conner Chronicles" this evening.
-----Saw a Toyota truck commercial with Zorbing in it this evening. I so want to go Zorbing. Husband is excited about our someday-Zorbing-plans, too.
-----Strawberry Crush is awesome. A bottle of it is sitting on the table...beckoning to me.
-----Found out that Starbucks is discontinuing their breakfast sandwiches. I never got to try them. :-(

Admin. Note

Strange....strange things have happened with my news feeds. I am waiting a little while to see if they return to the places that they actually belong...otherwise I have a lot of work ahead of me. :-( GRUMBLE,GRUMBLE,GRUMBLE.

Update:
Of course, right after I posted this....literally...everything fixed itself. :-)

Cell phones

Star Wars

New Star Wars character??? I don't really understand this in the timeline of the story. How do you think that could be???

Race seems to be a topic that appears in the news more as of late.

-----More talk of "Canadian" being used as a term to describe black people.
-----F1 racing controversy

-----Could humans live to be hundreds of years old?????
----A new picture of what Dante looked like
-----The White House is considering whether to add polar bears to the endangered species list.
-----Many of the pit bulls that belonged to Michael Vick will be in a reality TV show.
-----I forgot about GroundHog Day....anyway, The Groundhog saw his shadow.

Around the house.....

-----There may be a new stain remover on the shelves sometime or other...white wine. I guess I would try that but only continue using it if it was better in some way...cost,effectiveness,smell.
-----Star Wars inspired hovering chair...I did not see any mention of what the selling price will be.

Smiling.....

A new supermarket (humor)

I am smiling this evening as my mission as been accomplished....I had an enjoyable viewing of the Super Bowl. I was bored and made a good mental decision...I turned the channel after Half-Time. The Tom Petty performance was wonderful...calm and traditional..full of great songs. Last year's game was just more exciting to me...I'll get the scores later. :-)
At this point,Britney Spears will be in a mental hospital for another two weeks.
A bill has been introduced in Mississippi to keep restaurants from serving those who are obese
