If you won't be watching, what will you be doing???

Every little bit helps.....

You can lend as little as 25 dollars at a time. You get the money back....and can reinvest it. This is awesome. Thank you so much to Solomon Broad for introducing me to this.

Kiva has been endorsed by many....including former President Bill Clinton!!!

I wish that there were a program like this for people who don't live in third world countries but are valiantly struggling to open a small business....like me.

Thursday Thirteen

1. Odd...but the sunscreen that swimmers wear is killing off some of the coral.

2. Early talks for a Transformers amusement park ride

3. Edinburgh hosting a Star Wars themed race....with running commentators.

4. London may ban disposable shopping bags. This has some retailers concerned.

5. Clinton or Obama? Romney or McCain?

6. In Virginia, some would like to see President Bush arrested.

7. That's cool....a video of passengers who suddenly got up and started doing "Thriller" on the London Tube.

8. Why I will think before I go on another amusement park ride. :-(

9. Do you know what you will be doing for Valentine's Day yet? Will you be celebrating Valentine's with your pet? Apparently, many people would prefer to spend Valentine's Day with only their pet.

10. Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo.

11.

Recently:
----In Arizona, nearly 600 traffic tickets had to be voided due to a glitch. The article says this is rare...the two people commenting on the article don't agree. That article would be a lovely place to leave your feedback on the issue.

Star Trek!!!

The new Star Trek movie will have about 1,000 Visual Effects shots. I am looking forward to the first big trailer. :-)

In My Life...

-----In the midst of all the holiday guests, I had put some chocolate away that Husband and I had bought for personal time....Lindt and Rochet.....very yummy. Anyway....we forgot about it in the pantry. Husband found it today while getting the recycling ready and it was so welcome for us...it had been a mopey/angsty day.
-----Husband and I are working on our own spaghetti sauce recipe....inspired by a dish we saw on the back of a Creamette spaghetti box. More on that once we have gotten it right. Finding the perfect spaghetti sauce is a difficult quest.
-----Tonight we are on Night 4 of our Star Wars Movie Marathon...this means Episode 4, "A New Hope." The original.
-----Listened to the State of the Union Address. What do you think of the state of the Union?

Some want to impeach Bush, others want to arrest him.

From what I understand, reading elsewhere, this would only take affect if Bush/Cheney set foot in Vermont.

Look...Pilates comes to my blog!!!

I do "The New Method Workout" Target Toning and I never have understood what they were saying....now I do....the behind is called "the sit bones."

It is to late at night to be working out now....but this will be part of my workout for tomorrow.

World's Largest Swimming Pool

That looks beautiful and odd at the same time. I would be worried that there are more people at risk of drowning...but maybe there are a lot of lifeguards. Interesting.
The "Popped Culture" blog gives thoughts on the new James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace." I thought the title for the new movie was a little weird...now it is more understandable.
Being "Canadian" does not always mean that you are from Canada anymore...it can also be a derogatory euphemism for being a person who is black.

Things that happened January 28th...

I believe that January 28th is actually the anniversary of when Sir Francis Drake died...it says that in the video (but says it was his birthday in the text).
---Well, I looked it up and I did not find his birthday. Sir Francis Drake's date of death is also thought to be January 27th (at least it says that on Wikipedia).

-----Challenger Space Learning Centers continue to inspire children.

-----The frontman for UB40 has quit. :-(
-----Vermont town will vote on whether Bush and Cheney should be arrested if they enter Vermont?????
-----Watched "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" tonight. In general, I AM SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER. I am amazed at some of the answers given by the adults...TOTALLY NOT smarter than a fifth grader.
-----Tonight we will watch another Star Wars movie...Episode 3. I am a tad Star Wars obsessed and it has been a while since we have watched all the movies in sequence...a key activity for the Star Wars obsessed. :-)
-----Recovering from a nasty sinus headache tonight. I am glad that I did not have to take any medicine. I just massaged my sinus areas a lot. Still don't feel entirely better. Sinuses...not fun.
-----Slept in late today....though it was not a luxury-sinus problems always do that to me. I slept until about 2 in the afternoon!
-----Joined a group called "Find-Maddie-McCann" on Blog 365.
-----Signed up to be an Arizona Tea "Ambassador." I am a "Maker's Mark" ambassador and that has been a lot of fun.

Saturday, January 26, 2008

-----We have been busy watching all the Star Wars movies. It has been a while since we have done a Star Wars movie marathon. :-)
-Yoda looks so life-like in Episode 2.

-----Silliest lunch for work ever...two candy canes,6 pieces of bread and a jar of peanut butter. The theme was "What Can I Grab in the Five Minutes I Have to Grab Something?" Oddly enough, one of my co-workers was envious of this lunch as it featured things that she had not partaken of in a long time. :-)

A new drive to impeach Bush starts January 28.

It was a fun trip...but I had to wiggle my toes to keep circulation going.

Went to visit a friend in upper Iowa....where cornfields, palisades, deer and eagles abound. We were very near Wisconsin at times and it was VERY cold (but beautiful). You could start out at the top of a hill and the temperature (without windshield) was -4....by the time you got to the bottom of the hill it was -17. We went out for hot wings and had some great conversations. Husband bought me a post card at a record store...U2 in their early days-I liked them around the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" stage. I clung to my three scarves everywhere we went...yes, I looked silly....but the three scarves were a little comforting. I hope that the next visit isn't so cold.

Thursday Thirteen

1.

Julia Nunes sings an original song titled "Into The Sunshine." Julia is a great ukulele player and experiments with singing along with herself....neat. She can carry a tune well and has a lot of fans (the comment about 900 refers to the fact that she has reached 900 YouTube subscribers). Unfortunately, I do not like all the "bah, bah, bah" parts. The first lines of this song are awesome.

2.

-There are no bodies in the video.

3. "Lots of people who complained about us receiving the MBE received theirs for heroism in the war—for killing people. We received ours for entertaining other people. I'd say we deserve ours more."
-John Lennon on being a member of the Order of the British Empire
Do you agree that awards are more appropriate for entertaining versus military chivalry?

4. An allergy in which virtually the only thing you can eat is deer meat is becoming widespread. I am wondering what would cause such a thing.

5. Area 51 has been renamed. As far as anyone can tell.

6. Well....I wouldn't recommend taking children to see "Alvin and the Chipmunks."

7.

I am wondering if the the mint can be smelled as one is walking around and not just when boots are taken off. Also, how pervasive is the mint odor when the shoes are not being worn?

8. Do you approve of this as a prevention of harassment? I wonder how the men in Mexico are reacting to this.

9. Have you smiled at your spouse today?

10. The link between Heath Ledger and Michael Hutchence

11. "10 Cover Songs You Thought Were the Originals"

12. Dreamworks is to have its first amusement park in Dubai. Dreamworks is the studio that did Shrek. I am wondering when they will have parks in the U.S.

13. Have you been watching Celebrity Apprentice? I am impressed by how strong and composed Carol Alt is.

ABCs - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

R.I.P. Sir Edmund Hillary

-----It is being seen as a snub that the elderly Queen Elizabeth will not be taking a 26-hour flight to be at the funeral. Think of this in terms of everyday life...would you expect your elderly (in their 80s) relative to take such an expedition??? The Queen also has other responsibilities that cannot be laid aside each time an important person dies or she would be setting everything aside constantly (not an easy thing to do at that age...even with computers and constant communication, one has to consider their longterm health). I am sure that the Queen will be sending condolences in some other way. Perhaps,if age is a problem, countries should look at setting upper age limits or health requirements for their leaders.
-----Lindsay Lohan is to do community service in the morgue and ER as a consequence of drunk driving. I don't know if such a program will work. I also wonder about how involved this can be for a person with no medical training.
-----Yoko will not be assisting a film about Lennon's Highlands trip. Honestly, if it would cause Yoko pain, I would have to agree with the decision. I wouldn't mind reading an article about the conversations between Lennon and a minister.

This is my life

-----Husband is making fun of me because instead of saying "If it's not delivery, it's Digennaro," I said "If it's not pizza, it's Digennaro." I don't know if I am spelling that right....I will have to look later.
-----Thank you to "Groove Momma" for showing me FreeRice.com. "FreeRice" is a site that donates 20 grains of rice to poor countries via the United Nations for every vocab word you get right. The quiz gets harder for each word you get right and easier for each word that you get incorrect. I am really good at guessing the meaning of words...so, I helped donate 360 grains of rice today. :-)
-----Grudgingly, watching a werewolf movie called "Skinwalkers" tonight. I am not into blood, gore and scariness. The last werewolf movie we watched called "Blood & Chocolate" was really very good. So, I will give it a chance. After all I force Husband to watch sappy movies like "Pretty in Pink" with me on a regular basis...I guess that I can compromise and watch some of his movies. :-)
-----I am learning about a movie with Ben Stein called "Expelled:No Intelligence Allowed." It is about the fact that talking about anything that is counter to Darwinism is suppressed. I believe both sides of the Creation vs. Evolution debate are correct in some way. Husband and I will go to watch this movie. I found a reference to Stein's role in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" in the trailer...that made me smile. Accidental or not, there was a statement in the trailer that reminded me of Douglas Adams (very funny author and noted atheist).
-----Top Ten Star Wars T-Shirts at TCritic. There are a lot of neat t-shirt companies that I have never heard of on TCritic.

Potato and Egg Cake (Potato Frittata)

That taco was the last straw.

After 11 years...11 years...of repeated insubordination....finishing his taco while on the job was the straw that broke the camel's back????

What on earth could an employee do for eleven years that would be insubordination but not enough to be fired? Well...my speculation is that he was needed but got on a lot of peoples' nerves (either justified or because he didn't fit in their clique)...for eleven years....then one day at just the wrong moment for him someone realized they didn't need him anymore.

Reading between the lines, I would say that Mr. Morales is better off and I wish him luck in whatever his future career is. The only things that is sad is that he probably lost a lot of benefits with his "insubordination."

For those of you that have Myspace,too.....

Myspace Surveys can be a lot of fun. Tonight I have been reading about a service primarily for MySpace but that works on other blogs as well.

"Quizmymates" lets you take quizzes and put the results/rating on your MySpace profile. There are currently over 7,000 quizzes on this site...7,758 to be specific the last I looked. That is more than enough for their to be something amusing for most everyone.

The site gets a lot of visitors...over 50,000 unique visitors monthly (I don't know how many return visitors). I know that I will be a return visitor...I set up an account as I don't have nearly enough little bits of fun like that here on my blog.

You must be over 13 to participate (which means there is likely some adult Humor or content in some of the quizzes). Quiz categories are:
Animals (if I had to be one...I would, of course, be a blue butterfly)
Cars
Cartoons
Celebrities
Computers
Food
Games
Humor
Misc.
Movies
Personality
Technology

You can, of course, create your own quiz. I have never been brave enough (or had the time enough) to do that. Maybe this will inspire me to get creative and make a quiz...there is even a spot for organizing your own quizzes.

As it is a spot where people can make there own quizzes, there can be a of misspellings and places where people don't finish the quiz.

I encourage readers to go through "QuizMyMates" and contribute something....that's part of the fun of the Blogosphere!!!

Thursday Thirteen

1.

"Bye,Bye,Bye" on ukele. The singer,Julia Nunes, can carry a tune. I like this better than the original song. :-)

Tom Willett's parody "Green,Green Air of Home." He has been singing this parody since 1967.

2. Obviously, one should watch for cars while wearing headphones.

3. Jenna Bush sets a wedding date. I think the proposal was pretty romantic.

4. Mona Lisa's identity solved

5. Cake...I put cake in my Thirteens a lot.
-----Hungarian Coffee Cake
-----Bumbleberry Bundt Cake

6. Spiderman and Mary Jane divorce (sort of)...after 21 years.

7. 15 American landmarks every child should see. Have you been to all of these yourself?...I haven't.

8. 10 dirtiest hotels in the United States. The Ramada in Niagara Falls is on this list...I will not be staying there (I am planning a trip in the next few years). ---Maybe the Ramada will do a turnaround though...currently closed for renovations.

9. One of the world's largest snow globes

10. I made an alarming discovery tonight..."SCRABULOUS" IS NOT LEGAL. I play this game and had resolved to play it more this year! I am very upset as there is an entire site for this in addition to Facebook. I thought it was very legal....and I am VERY MAD. DO NOT PLAY SCRABULOUS...I know a lot of my readers do.
-Now I need to add a different item to my goals list. :-(
-Wrote an e-mail requesting to be removed from the Scrabulous system immediately. :-(
-Looked around on the site. There is a disclaimer which leads back to the "official" site...and that leads you right back to where you started (not the official site). :-(

11. Mitt Romney says he supports abstinence education. What do you think a good abstinence education program would consist of?

12. Jay Leno on TV tonight talking about a bill that would allow prisoners to have pets while incarcerated.

13. The A-Team movie is still in-the-works. I think this will be very difficult to cast and do not agree with either of the suggestions mentioned in the article. Husband thought that I was joking when I suggested Stallone for B.A. Baracus...well, I'd like that better than Ice Cube. I would suggest Anthony Hopkins for Hannibal...Husband says he doesn't think that Hopkins could pull off the cigar but agrees that he would have been a good fit...both of us think he might be too old to be able to physically do it or make it believable.

In March, I am planning to start buying equipment...one piece at a time...for a home barista setup. Sadly, our coffeemaker has met some sort of misfortune with the tap water...it looks moldy on the inside. It is funny that the first purchase in a much more complex setup will be so simple....a coffeemaker.

We usually use Brita....well, I guess will just have to make time with the next coffeemaker. Make the Brita...store it in a milk jug..repeat.The tap water just seems to have a lot of particulates in it.

The machine we are replacing is one of those cheap plastic kind that I bought about 4 or 5 years ago. Annoying. Anyway, I really like the single cup idea. :-)

Admin. Note

Well...at least most of my blog can be seen...and some people are easily leaving comments. I am not sure what is going on but a lot of sites are loading REALLY slowly/never completely loading. I will keep on working on putting things in draft status or temporarily taking them off the blog to see if I can get it to load correctly.

Annoyed I am.

So, if the blog loads but there is no sidebar, that is why.
Grumble.

Update 5:30PM----
-Put the Cyanide and Happiness cartoon in draft status...that site and their MySpace is having problems.
-Temporarily took down the Auction Ads for Star Wars...so, now my sidebar is back. back. I wrote Auction Ads a note as I had similar problems to this the last time I put them up. It is a really helpful thing for those of us who are Star Wars obsessed...so, I hope that I can put it back up.
-Jiglu is loading very slowly now and YouTube is not loading the start images at all....SCREAM.
_______________________________

Update 5:42PM----
-I temporarily took Jiglu down. It does tags for you and makes a great tag map. I intend to put labels on a LOT of my posts sometime or other here...obviously not today.
-I am going to see when my last YouTube video was put up and only display from there on the frontpage. Pitiful but that is going to have to be the solution. YouTube is loading on their own site but continuing to transfer for a LONG time.

HOPEFULLY THAT IS ALL I WILL HAVE TO DO.....I will not make an angry face, I will not make an angry face. Angry faces give you wrinkles.

Re-watching "License to Wed." When I first watched this movie, I was under the impression that the Reverend Frank was attempting to break up all couples. -----Struggling through the presentation of Jesus in John's gospel....different from the other gospels. There are a lot of terms here that I have only vaguely heard before. I wish that our paper reams weren't somewhere in the back of the closet....reading this would be easier if I could just print it out and annotate the parts that I need to reread or that I want to know more about.
-----Going to see AVP 2 today. There is a great band called Oomph! that does a song called Wach Auf (Wake Up!) on the soundtrack. I am waiting to see if they will be my friend on my MySpace artsy blog. Oomph! sounds kind of like Rammstein.
-----Drinking PMS Tea from Traditional Medicinals. It has a lightly roasted/grainy taste.....actually pretty good. It is supposed to remove excess estrogen and help with the water retention. I asked Husband if I should drink Yorkshire Tea or PMS Tea while he was on the phone with our friend...of course, he said "PMS!". I could not get Husband to sip even a little. Anyway you are supposed to drink this tea 3-4 times daily while having PMS. I don't know if I am having PMS, but the suggestion that I am by Some-Men-I-Know-Who-Don't-Have-To-Go-Through-Such makes me want do something grumpy like posting about them on my blog. Try the tea....good...makes your mouth dry (like a lot of tea) so have a glass of something else along with it.
-----Joined "Arby's Extra's." This means that they will give me some sort of gift on my birthday and probably send some good coupons. I will keep you all updated on this. I like that they only communicate with you via e-mail. I think that is easier when it is a company that is not likely to send you a goody package (roast beef via USPS is just too complicated).

These are neat because you can just put them on your mouth and they dissolve. I am trying them out...slowly as I have VERY sensitive teeth and a lot of whitening products bother my gums.

As for the title...the ads suggest that you can whiten anywhere and people won't notice. Neat.

Hilary in Pink

Where Hilary stands on technology issues (like copyright and internet tax)

A top Hillary Clinton Fundraiser has received a prison sentence....after being convicted of fraud 16 years ago.

And the title???...by the end of the election, I am definitely going to to write a parody called "Hilary in Pink" (lyrics, at least). I love the movie "Pretty in Pink" and think that such a thing about Hilary might be fun. :-)

Magnetic Diet Weight Loss Program

I have never heard of this diet plan that uses a concept called "food magnetism." The program claims to rev up metabolism...something that I desperately need as I have on-going thyroid problems.

"The Magnetic Diet" weight loss program apparently hinges on what combinations of foods you eat. "Invigorating magnetism" at least sounds something pretty powerful.

"Learn about the difference between invigorating magnetism and contaminating magnetism and how one causes you to attract disease, depression, and obesity, while the other attracts health, happiness, and helps you to build the body you deserve."
Of course, there is some correlation between what one eats and weight gain. Though it is not talked about as much, there are correlations between what you eat and your mood. I would like to see what research the author points out for my own further reading.

I signed up for the free mini-course near the middle of the Magnetic Diet page...so, I can explore some of the concepts a little more.

Disclosure Policy for this posting is in the right column of this blog. :-)

Sakura Rum Squishy Cake...the name makes me smile.

I find this recipe intriguing...though the photo doesn't look much like my idea of a cake. I will try anything once as long as it is safe, moral and interesting....so, I will by trying this at some point. A recipe that calls for Cherry Blossom leaves...that's neat.

The name makes me smile and it is also kind of a tongue-twister. Say it fast...."Sakura Rum Squishy Cake." Taking a pause before saying Squishy is cheating.

Happy Birthday to Elvis

Some things that Elvis said...his birthday is coming up on January 8th. Here is the birthplace of Elvis..pretty small.
