Happy New Year everyone!!!

Looks really fun. I would be really scared. Not just a straight race...looks like it takes skill.

Things I learned today:

-----Listening to Men at Work, "Land Down Under"...realized that I don't fully understand "where beer flows and men chunder"... found out that to chunder is to vomit.
-----Someone has been searching for Marilyn Monroe Stag Films....apparently, there may be one that is authentic. After more than a bit of research, I found that a "blue film" is an early pornographic film...the low-quality film looked blueish. No plot and blue....what great films those must have been (sarcasm).
There was apparently a brawl among the priests cleaning the Church of the Nativity (otherwise known as Jesus' birthplace) this year.

Iraq on alert for the anniversary of Saddam Hussein's death. The thing that disturbed me here was children being willing to sacrifice....because children are innocent and have less decision-making experience, I think children should only (IF EVER) be involved in the safest of war efforts.

That is intriguing. I hope that someone takes pictures and that I get to see them.

What Christmas traditions do you have that others might consider a little unusual?
Anyone out there ever celebrated like this?

Pen Spinning

I have blogged about this before, but I guess that this trend is still going strong.

Imagine the pain of pencil spinning.

Thursday Thirteen

1. This year the final Christmas Mass was held at Ground Zero.

2. The Natalie Holloway case has been put in the cold case file. :-(

3. StarWars...on the bagpipes.

4. Imagine Elvis in "West Side Story."

5. Apparently a Cincinnati building will have a top inspired by Princess Diana's tiara...I can't imagine what that will look like...maybe very silly.

6. Workers for the Olympics may eventually strike.

7. Would you vote for a candidate that was very likely to be targeted by a terrorist or hate group? If that candidate were assassinated would you feel responsible?

8. Thousands are without power due to strong winds in Los Angeles.

9. At his passing, Barron Hilton will donate 97-percent of his money to his family's philanthropic foundation....good.

10. Recipes:
-----Mocha Fudge...has coffee and pecans.
-----Tangerine and Jicama Salad...beautifully done. The photos really illustrate how to do the salad...and there are a lot of photos.
-----Cajun Shrimp and Corn Salad with Lime-Chile Dressing
...very colorful.

11.

"(NOT LIVE) i ve recorded this coversong (Apologize - One Republic feat Timbaland) in my own little home studio and we used some of the images of the recording to make the videoclip so no its not all live singing... the recording and mixing took me 2,5 hours and the editing of the video took us like 1 hour... so yeah its not a great videoclip and its not sync.. :) i ve used some of the effects that timbaland used too .. so the voice might sound a bit robotic.. and i do have an accent, but its worse in this song cause I was paying more attention to my vocal techniques (and the lyrics in front of me :P) , just started taking vocal class so, confusing... still i hope u guys like it. =) Greets, Ricardo Munoz"

-----In an effort to reduce his carbon footprint, Prince Charles will appear at an energy conference as a hologram.
-----A girl is suspended for having a piece of candy with alcohol in it. I see no mention of the child who gave it to her being suspended.
-----Calling 911 and ending up tasered????

Strange things people have been searching for....

Query: "Who is Hank Williams Jr. voting for in 2008?"
My answer: I have no idea. Is he endorsing someone? I would find it interesting to know who the guy who played Max Headroom is voting for. Who is the guy(s) who voices the Kool-Aid man voting for? Imagine someone trying to vote while dressed in the Kool-Aid costume. Is anyone wearing a costume to the polling place this year?....you would of course have to take off the mask in order to be identified....might I suggest going as Hank Williams, Jr., Max Headroom or the Kool-Aid man-all excellent choices.

Query: "Bejeweled key"
My answer: I still don't have it...but it is apparently in very high demand as so many people look for it. It might be really easy to find...open your game and pay for it.

Query: "Meatloaf recipes with coffee"
My answer: I have been informed we WON'T be trying that here.

Query: "create a virtual dancing cactus"
My answer: The real dancing cacti are scary and make me want to run.

Bye,Bye Cheney.

The movement to have Cheney impeached...Do you think he should be?????

MTV YouChoose '08

My thoughts on what I have watched so far:
-----Since when was Cedar Rapids declared "The Heart of the Heartland?"
-----Are you caucussing? I heard an interesting opinion recently...that caucussing is an invasion of privacy.
-----How many times have you voted? Making plans for this time? Who are you leaning towards?
-----Barack says he is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ on the south side of Chicago. He believes that everyone should be included in our country's programs and that seperation of Church and state is to keep from having government heavily dictating to a religious group...that was my understanding of what he said. I do agree that we need to start talking about values and responsibilities...though I think that some politicians (particularly Republicans) use this talk as a political tool.

-----Obama's justification for all his "Present" votes
-----Man trapped in bathroom of a bowling club for four days. At least there was some humor in the last sentence.

Then again, maybe he should be happy it was a bathroom...lack of facilities would have made the situation even worse.
-----Apparently there is speculation as to whether Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy is legal....people talking about possible statutory rape charges.

Response in the blogosphere:

Keeping a journal (and found my fave pen)

EMBODIMENT PAPER JOURNAL PROJECT 2007 | LEARN MORE + JOIN

Membership is now open for 2008...I have joined and I am busy getting a journal ready tonight. This journal will contain a current list of what I intend to do for "101 Things to Do in 1001 Days," my morning pages (as detailed in the book "The Artist's Way," a control journal for Fly Lady and whatever else I feel like writing about.

Oh and I have more room on my "100 in 1001 list" as I found my ridiculously expensive "Interview pen"...left where I last used it-in my organizer brief after some lecture or other. I was setting up the journal so that I could move parts of it to the organizer brief for more formal times....and there it was! I have lost that pen so many times and even had people attempt to steal it (it's not that expensive...idiots). Now I need a new goal. :-)

(I will add links to the various activities later as I am without a mouse right now...it will only move up and down. I think a part is in the wrong place but it is also stuck....so, waiting for Husband to wake from nap to pull it apart. I hate when I can't fix a computer problem myself...but I certainly don't want to pry at the mouse as I seem to be killing them way too much lately).

1. Learn to play "Moonshadow" by Cat Stevens on my acoustic and electric guitars. This will involve taking the guitars in for some long-needed repairs first.
2. Visit both the American and Canadian sides of Niagara Falls. Learn a lot of the history of the site beforehand. Read a fictional book that I have called "Niagara Falls All Over Again." I am interested in Chariots of Fire Tours for this trip as they have a helicopter ride option.
3. Find a place that will allow me to take a romantic sleigh ride with Husband. I would assume that they have sleigh rides in Walnut Grove (home of Laura Ingalls Wilder)...that would be my ideal.
4. Read "The Joy of Cooking." Try 100 of the regular recipes. Try all the recipes in the Brunch,Lunch and Supper Dishes section (the more readymade recipes).
5. Go horseback riding at least three times.

8. Read all of the Canterbury Tales.
9. Purchase a good telescope that I can take photos of the night sky with. Do fractal photos of these pictures (even if I have to change the colors for it to look interesting).
10. Win NaNoWriMo 2008. I have failed miserably every time I have participated. In 2009,self-publish the book that results . The book will be dedicated to a family member who died in a car accident....so, it will mean a lot if I can win this time.
11. Post every day...if I cannot get online for some reason still work on a post. This is a part of Blog 365 on Ning. I will be making at least one entry that is numbered each day. I hope that this becomes an annual activity...and will advocate for such.
12. Either open the coffee shop or be completely ready to. The hard part is going to be the financing for the regularly carried merchandise.
13. Go on a hot air balloon ride. A trip that got canceled a long time ago....the weather is such a critical factor when trying to do this.
14. At least once a month, update any program on my computer that is updatable. I am sure that there will be more to my goal regarding computer maintenance.:-)

32. Make a list of home barista equipment that I want...and obtain it.

Caring for my Christmas Cactuses

Watered the new Christmas cactus this morning (not the one pictured...those are the blooms this year on the old one). The new one WAS covered in buds but they did not like the cold of transport home.

Today I picked off all the absolutely dead or almost completely dead buds....some of them just flaked off. Then I watered the new plant. Christmas Cactus are a little different....they don't get watered on a schedule because they have different water needs at different times and they should stay moist. Tips for their care
-----Sour Cream Spice Cake....it looks pretty, at least. Probably tastes good...still the name makes me a little cautious.

"Noodles,TV and Teatime"

October 1st, 2006
-Something wrong with one of our televisions...can only see a line that one would assume is the cathode ray tube moving...very glaring. My husband's comment was that "it flat-lined....literally." :-)
-Cleaning the coffeemaker....we use it for tea actually...gets dirty so quickly & is so not fun to clean.

UPDATE:
October 8th, 2006
Well, we took the deceased TV to its final resting place....that reusable burial ground known as the dumpster. I printed "bye bye" in the dust on the back of the tv & there was a little sadness. I sang "Taps" and saluted with both hands. Our neighbors haven't noticed that I am crazy yet.
Later-
We had some noodles & beans that couldn't be saved for leftovers. I was holding the bag & my husband was ladling in order to throw them out. Somehow, he missed & the noodle/bean mixture landed directly on his bare foot. Apparently, it was a VERY gross sensation. I am a bit of a smart Alec, so I again sang "Taps." It was very funny.

You're a green one, Mr. Grinch. I should add more to this sometime....I like to change lyrics. I still should do "Hillary in Pink."
IPaintFish.com....pretty.

The preliminary "101 in 1001" list is done. :-)

Tuesday, September 28, 2010...I hope to have 101 tasks done. That is 1001 days from January 1st. This is a part of the "101 Things to Do in 1001 Days Project." I am excited....I will know what I want to do with my life for a little over 2 1/2 years.

My list so far:

I am interested in Chariots of Fire Tours for this trip as they have a helicopter ride option.
3. Find a place that will allow me to take a romantic sleigh ride with Husband.
4. Read "The Joy of Cooking." Try 100 of the regular recipes. Try all the recipes in the Brunch,Lunch and Supper Dishes section (the more readymade recipes). I am excited...this book is a classic and I managed to find it for a few dollars at a thrift store.

6. Keep track of the years...so I can write a nice Christmas letter.
7. Keep morning pages as detailed in the book "The Artist's Way." I am certain that I will come up with numerous new goals as a result of doing these pages. I sure am committing myself to a lot of reading and writing during my "101 in 1001." :-)

9. Purchase a good telescope that I can take photos of the night sky with.
10. Win NaNoWriMo...I have failed miserably every time I have participated. At least I have gotten a lot of good ideas.
11. Post every day...if I cannot get online for some reason still work on a post. This is a part of Blog 365 on Ning. I will be making at least one entry that is numbered each day. I hope that this becomes an annual activity.

Maybe he listened to M.J. too much....and took "Beat It" literally.

Ike Turner has passed away. While I feel sympathy for his family and friends, I am not going to jump on the band wagon and glamorize what a "genius" he was. Perhaps he wasn't a genius....perhaps he was greedy. Greed motivates people to do some pretty impressive things. Too bad he couldn't be strong, too...and be a real husband, not a wife-beater.

"Sure, I've slapped Tina... There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I never beat her." My stance on this might soften a little if I ever came across any remorse.

"101 in 1001"...I have 40 listed so far.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010...I hope to have 101 tasks done. That is 1001 days from January 1st. This is a part of the "101 Things to Do in 1001 Days Project." I am excited....I will know what I want to do with my life for a little over 2 1/2 years.

My list so far:

Thursday Thirteen

1. ELVIS:
-----Gold convertible co-designed by Elvis sold on E-bay. Pretty but not super-super-impressive as far as design. I just can't see someone being driven around in this....maybe the intent was to drive it himself. Well...I guess one could be driven around in this but I still think it would be a good car for just a few people to enjoy (instead of an entourage) . I would love to have a car like this....looks like a relaxing drive.
-----"Schmelvis"...explores Elvis' Jewish roots

2. Obviously the caste system is still alive and well in India. If a person is in dire financial circumstances and arrested for begging, they can be imprisoned only on likelihood of the "crime." If they are crippled, they could be imprisoned for life...I suppose because they might be tempted to ask for help again.

3.

"Walk Hard-The Video"
Scary=I think Jack Black is wearing a thong.

4. Johnny Cash Radio
-----So far, has a lot of talk but seems nice.
-----Chris Kristofferson said hi...that was cool.
-----Johnny Cash singing Tom Petty's "Southern Accent"...sad and pretty.
-----Talk of Johnny Cash's interest in the working man and things common. Also talk of his interest in American Indians and the fact that he went on a trip to Wounded Knee.
-----"Sorry, I'm crying but my brother Jim's dying...so, I'm ringing the bells for Jim."
-----"Big Foot"

5. French Chocolate Coffee Cake

7. Hershey's to change controversial candy packaging that might cause children to mistake drugs for candy. Let us hope that "soon" is VERY quickly and the decision is immediate removal...any time something like this is on the shelf has been WAY TOO LONG. I have not seen the packaging and don't care what it looks like...if there is doubt as to safety it shouldn't be accessible to children immediately-not "evaluated"....removed...until/if proven innocent.

8. Last Minute Chocolate Christmas Cake

9. How to make rock candy

10. Custard-Filled Speed Bumps :-)

11. Watched "Don't Shoot Me Santa" by The Killers. Husband thought that I was listening to Meatloaf...I can hear some similarity. Universal Music Group also has some of the Meatloaf videos...like "Not a Dry Eye in the House."
.
12.

Madonna
La Isla Bonita [Live From Live Earth]
Warner Bros. Records
Not the usual performance of this song. I thought it was pretty neat.

14. Just thought I would see if you were noticing when something unusual happens.

13.

Politics

Everyone Poops - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

One might argue that donkey poop and elephant poop is particularly profuse and nasty.

On my Threadless blog, I titled this posting "Who Wants to Clean Up?"

Manic Monday

For the holidays, are you a last-minute shopper or do you shop well ahead of time?
Both I guess. There are always people that I find something for well ahead of time and then there are those who I am struggling for something for almost to the last minute.

If you had to pick a new first name for yourself, what name would you choose?
I like my first name....sorry to disappoint, but I wouldn't change it. If I were a man, I would like to be named Damien or Estaban. I thought of naming a dog Estaban. If I were naming a fish after the name I would choose if I were a man, I would name it "Esta-fishie."

What's worse, having expectations that are too high, or having no expectations at all?
Both are equally bad and can ruin your life.

-----Every supermarket has less-than-honest customers....but when the customers steal ALL of the new carts, that is just ridiculous. (I found this on Fark.)
-----A detailed introduction to "cluster ballooning." I would definitely do this but am a little concerned about safety....well, a lot concerned. I am wondering how compatible this is with having a parachute...that would make me feel a little more at ease. I just keep visualizing something that pops all my balloons. You go over the clouds!!!
-----Juggling lessons. Something I have never been able to do well. I am going to try to learn this better in the upcoming year and I am even going to make my own juggling balls.

War heroes

What a good thing....a very good thing. I will be taking flowers from around the house on my Christmas tree to the graves of loved ones...this was my inspiration. In my family I have some true war heroes and a lot of those graves are largely forgotten...maybe I will see one of these wreaths when I go.

The water clock is very interesting. It has a unique beauty and a lot of craftsmanship.

Smile...life's situations are better that way.

"Christmas Carols for the Seasonal Defective"...humorous and makes a good point about how one should fight an illness. Humor is a good weapon when fighting an illness.
