Some of what Husband could have entered in the Blake Prize

"Christilis"

Christuscybernetica
"Technology Crucified"

"Halo Cross"

"For Thomas"
Stigmata
bronze

All pieces are slightly larger than life size (with the exception of the last one, I think) . That's the problem with the Blake Prize....you have to transport both yourself & your pieces to Australia...which costs a LOT of money. We forever have this sort of problem....all artsy with no one to see.

(All of the photos & artwork above are copyright The Archaic Design...other than the newsfeed, of course.)
-----Ex-astronaut can take off the ankle bracelet. If I were Ms. Shipman, I would not have gone anywhere near where Ms. Nowak lived so soon after the incident. I know Houston is a big city...but still.
-----Man chopped in half learns to walk again.

Unfortunately, maggots have been found in boxes of chocolates from China.

Not to be watched if you are sensitive to seeing maggots crawling around...while not shown in profuse groupings, there are many in this video. Maggots don't show up frequently in chocolates...and when they do it is usually in the presence of fruits or nuts (Rochet has nuts....one would imagine the knockoffs did, too).

People want a properly supervised "Kid Nation."

And I was looking foward to this show.

I would be concerned about tampering with this method.

It would be nice to be able to buy packaged spinach again. I have not bought packaged spinach for such a long time.

-No Sew Fleece Blankets...finally someone tells me exactly how to make these. I like how she blogged this...complete with lunch break. It really does look like it is easy to do.

Thursday Thirteen

1. From My Prayer List:
-"D.J." who is the only survivor of a car crash. She is 8-years-old. Thankfully, her condition is improving...and family members have set up a fund in D.J.'s name - Diana Jo - at any Wells Fargo bank.
-On the 21st D.J. was upgraded from critical to serious condition.
-A 2-year-old little boy named Jordan whose heart is unstable. He is still fighting but right now things are not looking good. I hope that there is some progress soon. He either needs a donor heart or for his own heart to heal (yes, that is slimly possible at this point). Jordan has been battling for 16 days now!!! :-(

2. Star Wars:
-A man takes a mold of Han Solo in carbonite & puts a new head on it. I wouldn't have a problem with him sawing off the head & putting a new one on, and might even find it amusing, if it weren't an original mold that this was done to.
-Luke's Lightsaber will go up on the shuttle in October. It is unknown if it will be taken out during the flight. Would you like to see astronauts having a light saber battle in zero gravity?
-Of the movies he's done, Ewan says the movie he liked least was Star Wars.
-And what if George Lucas restored "Singin' In the Rain?":

3. Space:
-No evidence was found of drunken astronauts.

4. Spinach:

-Another spinach recall

5. Feet:

-Man has to be rescued after he accidentally glues his feet to the floor
-Self-exams of feet can help detect early melanoma...melanoma of the foot is a quick killer.

6. Nature:

-The Nature Conservancy...they have an online map where you see if you are near a nature preserve.

7. Weddings:

-Many of you have probably heard that "Wedding Crashers star Owen Wilson" has been hospitalised for a suicide attempt. I am hoping/praying that he heals as much as possible soon.
-Recollections of the chef who baked Princess Diana's wedding cake
-"The Knot" unveils Fall Wedding Trends

8. Movie Piracy:

9. Music:
-Swarovski Headphones...cost $2,500.

10. Pizza:
-Dominos premiers its new Oreo Desert Pizza this week...it will be only $3.99 if you buy another item. I will have to try it.

11. Upside Down House:

12. Blog for a Year Contest:
Well....I am still plugging along in my efforts here. I am running an honest & good race as always. I am still not winning but that is okay. You can vote for me daily, if you like my blog. :-)

Technorati tag:

Give prison inmates fish oil.

Fish oil may help prisoners be less violent. I would pay tax payer money for something like this that possibly improves mood & leads to rehabilitation. This is one of the least expensive rehabilitation techniques that I have seen. If this works, there should also be programs like this to provide supplements to those likely to offend & post-release. We really need to do more than focusing on punishment as "justice" in this country...we need to help each other.

This procedure is being used as a way to get around the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. It has some danger to the mother from what I can tell.
We saw the lunar eclipe on Tuesday. I still don't feel like I have gotten enough sleep after that. Yet, I still have insommnia...which is why I stayed up to watch the eclipse that I really wanted to see.

This is the second eclipse I have ever seen. I was a little scared as the wind sounded strange most of the time. As I have remarked on other blogs, it probably didn't help subliminally that I was reading "Carrie" by the moonlight.

Budweiser Hot Wing Sauce

We had turkey drumsticks with Budweiser Hot Wing Sauce this evening. If we were to do this again, I would try it with some sort of breast meat & also dip the pieces in warmed sauce...the skin on the turkey was delicious but their wasn't enough sauce (like there would be with hot wings). We served this with rice.
Husband's verdict: It was very good & the beer gave it a distinctive taste.

Sorry, I couldn't find the Budweisser Hot Wing Sauce on Amazon. If you are over 21, they do have it available in "The Bud Shop" on Budweiser.com.

Olympics

China has supported the Sudanese government.
_______________________________

I wrote this previously about possible Olympic protests:
There are actually resolutions urging President Bush to boycott the Olympics due to the way China treats its citizens (and neighbors). I had predicted that this was going to happen but thought that whatever boycott would actually be due to trade relations (with something else as the given reason).

I hope that China comes up with some sort of plan to show that they want to treat their citizens fairly.

If we must boycott the Olympics, I wonder how many other countries will be doing so also. Surely, there is time to move the Olympics to another country, if necessary.

If I were writing a novel, I could write about a serial murder who had a religious belief that forbade tattoos & who followed people home with fresh tattoos & then spread salt into the tattoos before taking victims. -Today I was flipping through channels & saw this horribly acted horse movie. The young girl, who was riding a horse, said, "Steady, girl." I thought that she said "City Girl"...wouldn't that be a great name for a race horse?

The Presidency: The Soundtrack

A meme by Patrick

Name your top seven choices for a campaign theme song if you were going to run for president.

My choices would be:
1. That baseball song that goes “Put Me in Coach. I’m ready to play today.”
2. "This Little Light of Mine…I’m Gonna Let it Shine"
3. "The Imperial March" from Star Wars
4. “You’re the Best” from The Karate Kid
5. "Shout" by Otis Day & the Knights…that would be a lot of fun (with the words possibly changed a little)
6. "Simply the Best" by Tina Turner
7. "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General"
(Pardon me, if I didn't get the exact titles) :-)

I still want someone to take the song “Pretty in Pink” & make a YouTube video for “Hillary in Pink.” Someone?....anyone?

I also thought of Queen’s “We are the Champions” but the “No time for losers” line might make a few people angry.

And for the people who actually lose: Some clever person could do a video to The Beatles "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

I want someone to do a George Bush Video of "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General."

Husband says that it's a lot of work to be asking of people with my video wishes...but some people love to do that. Who knows, I may eventually use my own ideas. :-)

Russia

Apparently...a Russian aircraft may, or may not, have entered Georgian airspace and may, or may not, have been shot down. Who is telling the truth here? The world situation with Russia is starting to scare me some. Especially, in light of the fact that Georgia has stated that worse has happened in there territory.

Earlier this month, I had read that the Russian bombers will be making routine flights within striking distance of the United States...something they have not done in many, many years. No one knows if these bombers will be armed or not.

Concerning the US: I was happy when we became friends with Russia. Couldn't we just stay friends? Friendship would be better for all. At least the U.S. military is not too concerned about the Russian flights that are within striking distance...I would assume that they have had talks with the Russian President/military about this.

Unconcious Mutterings :-)

Unconcious Mutterings is a fun meme by LunaNina. Every week you get a list of 10 words & then do word association. I enjoy this activity a lot. :-)

  1. Uneven ::
  2. Uneven hems. Not a pair. My hair likes to grow out uneven...very uneven. When doing flower arrangements, an uneven number of stems generally looks best. The uneven bars from gymnastics. Not equal. Mismatched...reminds me of mismatched socks. It is bad to ride with an uneven load on a motorcycle...or a passenger who leans too far or to the opposite side. The Bible says not to be "unevenly yoked."
  3. Wonder ::
  4. Wonder Woman. The Wonders of the World. I wonder a lot...riddle me this. Wonder Bread (Wonder Turkey Stuffing, Sweet Wonder Rolls). A song "You must be one of the wonders." I wonder a lot.The Wonder Years....Fred Savage was on Jimmy Kimmel last night. It's a Wonderful life. Stevie Wonder...I wonder how long all those braids take. What a Wonderful World. Small Wonder...a comedy with a little girl who was a robot. The world really makes me wonder sometimes...this is often not good. The Statue of the Thinking Man by Rodin. I Wonder who Wrote the Book of Love. Alice in Wonderland....and Through the Looking Glass. A scientist is a person who wonders a lot. A Wonderful Mind. Children have the most wonderful minds. Do you wonder what you will be doing 10 years from now?
  5. Spider ::
  6. The poisonous spider in Spiderman. I keep on finding brown spiders at my workplace & people have been bitten....but they are not recluses. Little Miss Muffet. Spiders that crawl the web...a spider web & the Internet web. Many people are scared of spiders. Tarantulas. Charlotte....and Zuckerman's famous pig, Wilbur. The plastic rings shaped like spiders at Halloween...and, if they are poorly made, the plastic cuts into your fingers. Spiders eating flies. Aracnophobia. My Spider Sense is tingling. Black widow. Spider bites are not fun.
  7. Emma ::
  8. The Emma Goldman Clinics. Stitch'n Sue is a blog by a woman whose name is Emma. A novel by Jane Austen...I have not read it. I've looked up what the name "Emma" means in several different places and found that it means "universal" or "whole."
  9. Swing ::
  10. I like to swing for exercise. I execused myself from an adult conversation about some sort of swing recently. A type of dance. Swing Low...Sweet Chariot. The economy swings back & forth. Swinging a baseball bat, a golf club, etc. Porch swing. Baby swing...when the baby starts trying to operate the baby swing themselves. You Swing Me Round Like a Record, Baby....okay, obviously I am tired because the word is Spin.
  11. Orbit ::
  12. Sending a baseball way out. Planets and so on.Mars Orbiter.Orbitz...that site for travel planning. Orbit gum-I seem to have an allergy to something in their sugar-free gum.
  13. Flirt ::
  14. I think married people shouldn't flirt. It annoys me when people say little boys are "flirting" (I am talking toddlers here). Excessive flirting is annoying. Flirting with disaster. A flirty dress. Teenage magazines have all sorts of flirting advice.
  15. Donation ::
  16. I want to make more donations. The Salvation Army...the Salvation Army Band. Donating organs. Blood donor. Thank you for your donation. Some donations you can be absolutely thankful for. Some people are miserly & never make donations. Asking Ebeneezer Scrooge for a donation. Fundraising. Some people have widgets asking for voluntary donations on their blogs. Friends, Romans, countrymen...lend me your ears...that is not a donation but a loan, so you get them back...this bit of silliness just popped into my head. :-)
  17. Veil ::
  18. Wedding Veil. I want to put a wedding veil up in some sort of arrangement in the bedroom...I think that's romantic. Tulle. The Veil Nebula.
  19. Atmosphere ::
  20. "Up into the atmosphere...up where the air is clear...oh, let's go fly a kite." Space....twice for this Muttering. The atmosphere is thin up in the mountains. Some places have good atmosphere. I always pick restaurants partly based on what I perceive their atmosphere is like. Making children learn the layers of the atmosphere in school.

Chocolate Rain

This original song by Tay Zonday raises a lot of issues facing people who are black (or whatever politically correct term you choose). I think that all races have problems that are both brought upon them & that they cause themselves (often in reaction to something or other).

I think that Tay has a really good voice & should pursue a professional singing career at some point.

Update: There was an article about Tay & Chocolate Rain in the LA Times. He is a grad student pursuiing a Phd. in American studies.

Update:
Tay is going to be singing Chocolate Rain on the Jimmy Kimmel Show on Monday night.

Friday Feast

Appetizer
Say there’s a book written about your life. Who would you want to narrate the audio version?
Vivein Leigh & Clark Gable. They would do a good job of being able to personify my inner bickerings but that I am happy in the end.
-----Husband's answer to who he would have narrate a book about him was interesting: Sir Alec Guiness (the original Obi Wan). Husband tells me that Sir Alec was a Shakespearean actor with an awesome range (and voice).

Soup
Take the letters from your favorite kind of nut and write a sentence. (Example: Perhaps every avenue needs understanding today.)
Filbert:
Friday is liked best-everyone requires rest.
I took the liberty of having a hyphen.

Salad
If you could go back in time and spend one week in another decade, which decade would you choose?
Well...off the top of my head:
First choice: Seeing Jesus speak
Second choice: A week of seeing John Lennon sing
Third choice: A week of seeing Elvis sing

Main Course
Name a song that brings back memories for you.
Anything from the Sound of Music...memories of childhood.

Dessert
Do you prefer to wash your hands in cold water or warm water?
Warm. Germs are bad. Occasionally, I do relish the feel of cold running water though.

These are my answer's for the Friday Feast meme.

Now that's an extreme sport.

Well, I like coffee, BUT....

How did someone come up with this idea?

Is this safe? It is not good to be exposed to ammonia from cat droppings...are these cats any different or does the process make it so you are only being exposed to safe ingredients? Since the cats only live in the wild, does that make drinking from their droppings any more dangerous?

Perhaps this drink is safe because the civet is more related to the Mongoose then a cat.

I have read that civets have been found to have SARS and, if this is the case, could this be transmitted through the droppings? Certainly, one could get it from being around the civets during picking or being around the civets while attempting to breed them.

Wow...that's expensive.

"This coffee tastes perfect, the flavor stays in your mouth long after you finish drinking."
-Coffee connoisseur in the video

Unless, I receive information that sways my opinion to this being safe...
THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW FOOD ITEMS I AM DEFINITELY NOT WILLING TO TRY.

No Olympics for us?

There are actually resolutions urging President Bush to boycott the Olympics due to the way China treats its citizens (and neighbors). I had predicted that this was going to happen but thought that whatever boycott would actually be due to trade relations (with something else as the given reason).

I hope that China comes up with some sort of plan to show that they want to treat their citizens fairly.

If we must boycott the Olympics, I wonder how many other countries will be doing so also. Surely, there is time to move the Olympics to another country, if necessary.
-----Is this real???....that is the most unusual dog I have ever seen.
-----Story of trying to pay with a 2 dollar bill....it just keeps getting worse. Imagine the situation escalating & ending up in jail for something so silly.

------Speaking of jail, the verdict is in...Lindsay Lohan will spend one day in jail. At least she will have to do rehab...again. I really hope that this works....drunk driving is so dangerous to so many people that don't deserve the consequences. I wonder how many studies have been done on the verdicts in drunk driving cases....how effective are these punishments/rehabs that "everyone else would get." Is the verdict fair to potential victims? Does such a verdict help to keep it from happening again?
-----Plez has some interesting comments on the Michael Vick case.
-----Pregnancy is not the reason Jenna Bush is getting married. The White House says that she is not pregnant. I wonder how people come up with such claims...where is the evidence to say something like that? It is very insulting....and unless there was reason for this claim, I find it very rude & degrading.

The Middle Name Meme

I am working on this meme that I have seen circling around the internet. I am glad that somebody tagged me...as I have always thought it was fun but never did it because I blog anonymously.

Anyway...now I am working on it but using my Second Life name-"Thebluestbutterfly Writer."

The Rules:
1. You have to post the rules before you give the facts.
2. You must list one fact that is relevant to your life for each letter in your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name than use a name that you like.
3. When you are tagged you must write a post containing your own middle name game facts.
4. At the end of your post you must tag one person for each letter in your middle name.. Don’t forget to comment them telling that they are tagged and to read your post to get the rules.

W-White. There are so many reason that my fingernails are hardly ever white. I guess I can be proud of working really hard. I should wear nail polish more often...though it doesn't stay on for long with me.
R-Religion. I have been thinking about religion a lot lately & I think it is the answer to peace...and often the answer that causes war. Ironically, a lot of our religions are based on previous religions that the founders had encountered. What relgion am I? Non-denominational Christian

Madeleine McCann

Police are apparently convinced that Madeleine McCann suffered an accidental death in the apartment that she was staying in? I hope that they have some theories as to where her body went then...and why it went wherever. I am praying that there is closure in this ordeal soon.

Update: In Spain, newspapers are reporting a possible sighting of Madeleine at a Shell station. It would be so wonderful if there was a happy ending to what is shaping into a very tragic story.
-But there have been what people said were definite sightings in other places (like Belgium)
Did Chernobyl cause mental damage to unborn children in Sweden?

We use a pressure washer.....but not just for the car.

We use a pressure washer to clean our garage & basement floors. We even clean the garage & basement doors this way. You have to closely follow all the instructions if you do this...it is electricity & water. We combine this with deck scrubbing with a big broom & then cleaning it up with a shop vac.

Anyway, carguygarage.com carries electric pressure washers (versus having to maintain a gas motor like you do with a lawn mower). Very good for the serious car maintenance fans or just those who don't like the expense & hassle of the carwash.

An electric pressure washer requires no maintenance...other than making sure to follow safety directions, like I said. Actually, it's kind of fun...especially if you have some great music in the background for a soundtrack while you're working.

If you have concrete floors (which get dirty easily)& multiple cars to clean, it is a worthwhile investment...even something you can share among relatives/friends.

No matter what....I would like to see the miners brought home.

Families of the miners in Utah are very upset with how the situation was handled both before & after the collapse. I don't know that much of mines....so, I am wondering why miners are sometimes left emtombed by a collapse. Would there be no remains? If it is only a manner of cost...surely someone could volunteer to help recover the people without a company/its workers going bankcrupt.

I do believe in keeping ones promises. I hope that Mr. Murray finds some way to bring out the workers...whether dead or alive. It has to be really agonizing being in charge right now. I think that if someone(s) comes foward to help...this is a promise he can keep.

Entertaining

Saddam's Daughter, Raghad

Previously:
An arrest warrant has been issued for Saddam's daughter (well....a "Red Notice" which seeks arrest in order to be extradited). I have not found anywhere where it has been said what would be done with her if she was found guilty of funding terrorism. I also have not seen if she was being accused of funding terrorism before or after the death of her two brothers & her father. I do feel some compassion for her as she has lost so many including her husband. I wonder if her actions are motivated by how she feels about all these deaths....and as such I feel sympathy for her. I am wondering if they are thinking of hanging her.

Her children are under protection, too. I don't know how old the children are....but if they had no part in anything wrong, I hope that great pains are taken to keep them safe.

The only possible verdict, if found guilty, is life in prison or death.

Update:
At this point, Raghad will not be deported.
Under terms of her asylum, Raghad agreed "never to practice any political or media activities" while living in Jordan, Judeh said.
Raghad went to Jordan three months after her father died. If she is abiding by the terms of her asylum, then I don't see how she could have done very much funding or supporting of insurgency.

Immigration Activist/Illegal Alien Arrested....but what will happen to her 8-year-old son who is a United States citizen?

This was that lady who was taking refuge in Churches. As far as I know, they could still have come into the Church to get her if they had chosen....I think that is how the United States law is. Anyway...she is now to be deported & I am wondering about her son.

The Update:
She has been deported. I am glad that the son has been able to visit her. Those who are following the illegal immigrant/alien controversy may want to keep up with the bill that is going to be attempted for cases like this.

Billy Graham & the things he says :-)

I don't know if Billy Graham is out of the hospital yet....he was hospitalized a few days ago for intestinal bleeding.

Anyway here are my favorite Billy Graham quotes....starting with my absolute favorite one first. :-)

A real Christian is a person who can give his pet parrot to the town gossip.

Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in him. I am not sure that I understand what he said here. Does this mean that everyone has some scandal or conspiracy in them?

God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with. I think this is so very true....but we should do more giving than receiving, of course.

Man has two great spiritual needs. One is for forgiveness. The other is for goodness.

Strawberry Shortcake set in a tomato patch just wouldn't be as colorful.

As I reported previously:

I suppose it was just the rarity of it that no one mentioned tasting or getting a small piece scientifically tested as an option.

The Update:
Here is what probably happened scientifically speaking. It is still an interesting tomato. :-)

Thoof

I have joined a new service that reminds me a little of "Stumble Upon" or "Digg." It is called "Thoof." I like any service that offers me personalized news...it makes it a lot easier to filter the tons of articles that I read each day (you don't want to see my Bookmarks).

Something that particularly intrigues me about Thoof is the fact that one can suggest changes to the stories covered & then the community votes on these changes. I have just registered, so I have not seen this feature in action yet. It does seem like it could be beneficial though....offers the possibility for tremendous truth & being very well-informed, that is IF it is used correctly. I am waiting in anticipation to see if I find this feature useful. As frequent readers know, I reference Wikipedia often....I could end up doing the same with Thoof.

An innovative feature that I will be paying attention to is the Thoof Rank Badge. This button indicates the percentage of interest that is shown in a story. The Rank Badge can be used for any story that a user submits themselves. I think this will be useful to Thoof, Bloggers and Blog Readers.

Articles I have found interesting in some way:
Why the World Needs a Stonger International Police
Little Known Ways to Find Cheap Flights
Strange Pond Creature Discovered on Coast of England
Time.Com Picks 5 Worst Websites
What Happens When One Drinks an Entire Bottle of Food Coloring
The Strangest Sights in Google Earth
What's Inside Red Bull

I am just learning to navigate Thoof....but I am having fun. :-)

MEL BROWN PRAYER VIGIL
(This was the top of my blog for the longest time....but he seems okay now...keep in prayer, anyway.)

When my husband & I were dating we sometimes attended Edgewood Baptist Church.

Believe it or not, that was the first time in my life that I heard a pastor I could identify with. I have been raised as a Christian all my life...so, that is really saying something.

Currently, I do not attend Church but when I do I often travel to do so (there being no churches that I identify with nearby)....I have been blessed to find pastors in a few cities with similar preaching styles. Pastor Brown was trained at Moody Bible Institute if that gives you any idea of the kind of speaking style I am talking about....slightly interactive & where people are welcome to take notes (somewhere that you actually learn something instead of just staring straight ahead).

Anyway the pastor that I heard at Edgewood, Pastor Mel Brown, has been diagnosed with cancer. He keeps a blog as to his condition.

Please pray for Pastor Brown. Also keep his wife Barbara, their three grown children, loved ones, friends and congregation in your thoughts and prayers. I pray that God helps them through the what ifs, worries and fears of having to deal with an illness.

There is some good news:
ALL TEST RESULTS ARE NOW NORMAL AND PASTOR BROWN DOES NOT HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR FOR A FEW MONTHS!!!

Yes, I remember that some of my readers don't pray...but your kind thoughts are always appreciated. :-)
