Safety Tips for Women.....

High Rise Safety Tips for Women...some of this can be useful for any woman living by herself.

I agree that one should be very selective in where one chooses to live. Although, you can still have bad neighbors move in after completely scouting out an area. Twice, I have done the best thing possible when multiple dangerous neighbors moved in.....I moved out.

What safety precautions would you advise a woman/people in general take???

Yes, I have blogged about this before but it bears repeating. :-)

An in further Blog for a Year contest efforts.....

Thank you to all who have voted for me...I now have 150 votes!!! Yes, I am way behind the lead but I am feeling good about what I have. You can vote daily & a lot can happen in the months until December....this contest has had many surprises.

I continue to try to be the best blogger I can be. This to me means having my blog be more authentic each day...ones blog should be a unique thing. Everyone should contribute something to the Blogosphere...and I am being a little grand here but I think that one should try to reach the world in some way through blogging (or at least the parts that might listen). Anyway....blogging is just something that I enjoy doing so much. :-)

Sleepy Politics

I guess it is time to go to sleep. My body took a vote of all the parts & decided that it was very, very tired & going to bed. My brain tried to veto this vote & rallied the body parts to do so also. The mutinous traitors that my eyes & concentration are seemed to have a bigger sway than everyone. Sleep is not a democracy. Good night.

-----A very interesting post on the art of Clowning. Like the author, I have never found most clowns very funny. This was enchanting to read. I have always wanted to try being a truly funny clown....not on a long-term basis. :-)

Top 30 Cult Films of All Time

Letters from Iwo Jima

Watching Letters from Iwo Jima tonight. We checked it out from the library. :-)
Iwo Jima now is both beautiful & sad (in my opinion).
The movie is the Battle of Iwo Jima as told from the perspective of the Japanese who were fighting in the battle. I am finding it very interesting. I haven't read very much about this battle. It is always good to mentally walk a mile in another man's shoes....no matter what side they are on.

A Little More Silent

I don't know if the same was occuring for viewers....but many of my Newroom feeds just started playing automatically ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Not a lovely noise.

Anyway....all that seemed to be causing the problems are temporarily relocated to draft status. I am e-mailing the company to find out what is going on....and enjoying the silence.

Update: The Newsroom said that they were having problems over the weekend. All fixed now....which is good because they were stories that I was enjoying talking with people about. :-)

Around the World & Around the Blogosphere

-----R.I.P. Hank Medress. Hank was a dowop singer on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." I love that song.
-----"Chemical Ali" has been sentenced to death.
-----Gay is the New Jew. In some peer groups not much has changed since the 80s...in one city that hasn't caught up with "the times" I still hear the teenage boys insulting each other while they are playing by calling each other "gay" or "f*got" (sorry, I don't like that last word at all). In other places I have been, it is taboo to express ANY disagreement about whether it is right or wrong to be gay....including 80's-style jibes.

Unconcious Mutterings for this week....what I think on Sunday

This is a Free Word Association meme that is done by LunaNina. I have learned a lot about myself after doing this for several weeks. :-)

  1. Compulsion :: Compulsive liars. Compulsive gamblers. Compulsive spenders. Some compulsions are good.

  2. Spiritual :: I wish that I were more spirtual....specifically I would like to start reading my Bible more.

  3. Spray :: A skunk's spray. Perfume or cologne...hopefully, not smelling like a skunk's spray. And remember when there was a cologne that smelled like Elvis' sweat???

  4. Compatibility :: Compatibility test....I have a friend who was told that they weren't compatible with anyone (what a stupid & incorrect test).

  5. Pursuit :: Trivial Pursuit....I love that game.

  6. Fake :: Faux

  7. Mobile :: Phone, of course. Mobiles that hang from the ceiling. Cars. The mobiles that Patrick climbed up the ladder to help with in Auntie Mame (one of my favorite movies).

  8. Ceremony :: Marriage ceremony. Coming-of-age celebration. Award presentation. Pomp & Circumstance.

  9. Ribbons :: Blue Ribbon. Zuckerman's Famous Pig (Charlotte's web). Really good pie at the Fair. I love to wear all sorts of ribbons in my hair.

  10. Mozart :: Tranquil & relaxing....usually. I have been told to turn Mozart down before...on the pieces that start getting real loud (louder and louder and louder).

Vote for me....if you like my blog. I would really appreciate your vote. :-)
-A vote for me is a vote for a person who truly wants to win & has been running an honest race...plugging along one vote at a time....142 votes now.
-A vote for me will help my personal life a lot. My hubby & I will possible be able to start having children. I will be able to escape the degradation that one can suffer in retail.

I hope that you like my blog. :-)

Catching up on Harry Potter

The Deathly Hallows is coming out in July...you can pre-order. :-)

I have not read any of these books (but have seen some of the movies). Part of my day today will be spent putting books on hold at the library.
-----I have place a hold on a sound recording of "The Deathly Hallows." I don't know if I am the first one to do this or not but I can wait for it to come in. The library hasn't even acquired it yet....but they are allowing holds...neat.

If you want an example of someone who truly lives life, look at the description of the musician at the end of this post.
Many of Paris Hilton's neighbors are not looking foward to her return home. Well....they will have to deal with distubances pretty soon as she is expected to come home next Tuesday. I think that, if I were one of the neighbors, I would definitely be upset about the helicopters.
Of these items belonging to Elvis, Marily Monroe and Alfred Hitchcock....which would you buy at an auction if money were no object???

Tennessee, Do You Want Elvis License Plates?

There must be 250 more people willing to purchase the plates before the June 30 deadline or the plates will not be produced. Proceeds from the sale of these license plates would go to the Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center.

About Your Towel (if you are a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan....you'll understand this)

About your towel:
What will you name your towel?
What would the life story of your towel be like?
Does your towel seem to like you? Is your towel lying about liking you?
How do you get even with people who disrespect your towel?

Have you been hitchhiking? How did that go?

If Elvis is alive (and hidden somewhere, do you think he will be a hidden Space Tourist someday? He could give a secret concert on Mars & give the money to a worthy charity).

How much does Marvin weigh?

Do you love your sofa?
Does your sofa love you?
Do you take special loving care of your sofa?
Does your sofa have a name (and its own teacup)???

Where do you keep your Hitchhiker's Guide?
What other books do you think are wholly remarkable books?
What is the most pleasing thing you have seen here on Earth Today?

(written 6-26-2004....tweaked in 2007)
Is big art all about money now???
Today is the anniversary of the day that the burglars broke in at Watergate.

Still pulling for Mel Gibson....

I am still pulling for Mel Gibson to do well in his Alcohol Addiction rehab efforts. I have read that he has struggled with alcohol addiction & severe depression for a long time.

It is said that he has recently shown up at an AA meeting drunk. Is there something in the bylaws that permits this? Is there a set of procedures to help someone when they show up for a meeting drunk???....I am sure this is not the first time someone has done that.

Last year's incident, in which Mel said some slurs while upset (I am not arguiing about whether he meant them or not....as I don't know his heart) & an officer may have immediately sold the info, is now prompting a call for laws against "Chequebook Journalism."

Listening To....I am Obviously in a Musical Mood

-----"Angel Baby" by John Lennon....very pretty. It is a rock n' roll song that wasn't officially released until 1986.
-----"Working Class Hero" by John Lennon. Reminds me a bit of Dylan here.
There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill

-----John Lennon...."Out of the Blue". I like his lovesongs.
-----John Lennon's music & his marketing genius are my current interest. I am going to write a book about what I have learned on marketing & business from listening to & reading about John Lennon.
-----John Lennon...."Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)". This is my favorite song by John Lennon actually. I have always admired the great love that he had for his children & for Yoko.

Getting to Know Nin.

I have been allowed to adopt this lion as my inspiration. I am a member of The Shameless Lions Writing Circle. :-)
-I have named my lion Nin....as I have said before, anyone into music will get the reference. :-)

King?
By “The Bluest Butterfly”

I was here.
Did you love me?
Or bow to Fear?
My spirit roams past this stone.
Looks so like myself.
A monument.
They still stare.
Nails that kept others out.
Nails that trapped me in.
I ruled & roamed.
King of All Except Myself

Shameless Lions Writing Circle

"A roar a day keeps the writer's block at bay!"

The next thing that I am going to do to keep my imagination going is an interview with Nin. I can figure up his story if I ask myself the questions & figure out the answers. It should be fun. Especially interesting since, according to my poem, Nin is now a ghost who comes to look at the monument of him.

Thursday Thirteen

1. A woman is arrested for stealing rolls of toilet paper from a courthouse. She has what I would assume are other minor theft charges....this will be the fourth. She could get prison time but a woman with great sympathy for her wants to avoid that by having 1 million people send a roll of toilet paper to the courthouse. Would the court really be sway by a million rolls of toilet paper???

2. Grieving mother urges everyone to install remote sensors in their cars.

3. Iran's parliament voted in favor of a bill that would give the death penalty to those involved in the production of porn movies.

4. Father fights to put what he wants on Columbine Memorial. Whatever it is that he wants is being objected to. Without knowing what it is that he wants to write, I can't really form an opinion on this. I am wondering if what he wanted to say was a personal attack against the shooters.

5. On June 26th Oklahoma plans to execute a terminally ill death row inmate.

6. This challenge is called Blog Apocalypse (set up by The Urban Monk). The Urban Monk will donate $1 to charity for every link that he receives. Currently, the charity will most likely be The Salvation Army.
---This is Blog Apocalypse:
"The blogosphere is ending. No more blogs. Blog apocalypse. The internet is still working, the world is fine. But you can’t write anymore. Write your last post. Make it a good one. What is the reason you blog? What is the last gem of knowledge you want to leave? What do you want to be remembered for? Who are you? What is the meaning of life? Haha…well not exactly but you get the point. Pour your heart into it. "
---If you decide to play, please leave a comment and I'll put a link to your post.
---I found this challenge on Tinkerbell's blog...a blog which I always enjoy.
---I haven't gotten around to posting mine yet....maybe this will motivate me.

7. I blogged about this earlier in the week but it bears repeating:
John Lennon's Last Words Revealed
Something that expresses the love of one's children is a nice thing to have as one's last words.

8. How to prevent a sinus headache. I don' know if I can do Number 8 anymore...I haven't done so in years & don't think that I am going to try anytime soon.

9. How to take aerial photos using a kite. I will try this sooner or later (and, of course, it will be blogged).

10. Stress Tip 14

Mother Teresa on how to live

"Each time anyone comes into contact with us, they must become different and better people because of having met us. We must radiate God’s love. We must know that we have been created for greater things; not just to be a number in the world, not just to go for diplomas and degrees, this work and that work. We have been created in order to love and to be loved. Love does not measure- it just gives." ~Mother Teresa

Thank you to Thomas for reminding me of these wise words. We should all try to live our lives this way....maybe we can all change each other enough. :-)

"All You Need is Love" lyrics backpack

To Whom It May Concern: Thank you for removing my content

To the person who removed my content....Thank you. I didn't want to have to report this & I am glad that I didn't have to. :-)

To Everyone:
I used to just ignore when content was scraped. I have found that this is not a good idea as it is then hard to enforce your copyright. Also you can get labeled as spam for duplicate content....ironic, yes???
John Lennon's Last Words Revealed

What a nice thing to have as one last words actually.

There is no info on my blog for the following:

Bejeweled 2 Deluxe Cheat Keys
How to cheat an ankle bracelet
How to cheat an alcohol bracelet

Though I protest...I suppose the very act of talking about the weird things people come to my blog looking for will cause MORE people to come to my blog...looking for them.

Glimpses of My Life :-)

-----R.I.P. Mr. Wizard of "Mr. Wizard's World"...he died June 12th.
-----I have to water trees tomorrow...particularly the mulberry tree that I have finally managed to make appear living again. It was transplanted & went into shock in the container....then it started growing again & I have now put it in the ground.
-----Various instructions on how to make your own bio-diesel (yes, we are going to do this at some point). One man has had a lot of heartache from the government for making his own fuel...read about that, too.

-----I have an appointment with an eye surgeon tomorrow to fix an eye that travels outward (not lazy eye but another condition) . Hopefully this will put a stop to my eye problem which causes me much mistreatment. It is getting better though...I have glasses that very temporarily fix the problem....enough so I can get through my work day without horrible stares (and even comments). When I wear the glasses I call it my Clark Kent disguise. If I forget the glasses, I go all the way back home to get them....I forgot them a few times & it was pretty much back to the same old treatment by those who noticed. Aside, from protecting my sanity, fixing my eye problem will also make life much easier...I am functionally blind in one eye & this causes lots of problems with things like crossing the street or reading digital numbers. My eyes like to play a lot of tricks on me. If it can't be fixed, my eyesight could get much worse. Keep this problem in your thoughts & prayers....THANK YOU.
Below is a photo that I took of my problem. At least it makes for interesting artwork.

I have been allowed to adopt this lion as my inspiration. I am a member of The Shameless Lions Writing Circle. :-)

One of our tasks was to write a poem inspired by our lion. It took a little thinking on my part but I think that I have finally got the story that I want to tell...it has to be 48 words or less. :-)

Cartel...an interesting band that I found

Cartel is currently spending there time in a bubble (yes, you read that right) & will be there until sometime tomorrow....an event sponsored by Dr. Pepper. If you live in New York City, they are in a transparent bubble at Hudson River Park's Pier 54.From what I understand there concert at 8pm on the 12th will actually be after they emerge from the bubble...a free event. :-)

Though Cartel will not be in the bubble for much longer I have been lucky enough to be given a 24-Hour Access Code that readers can use to watch them:

-----MySpace page (where you can listen to some of their music). One track that I like, which I did not see on their MySpace is called "The Minstrel's Prayer." Anyway....I would define them as boy band meets My Chemical Romance as far as sound/style goes. I just find them entrancing to listen to & the lyrics actually have substance.

I think that it would be neat if Dr. Pepper continued the "Band in a Bubble" thing with other bands. I am sure that it was interesting for both the fans & the musicians.

Thank you, to Clint who first made me aware of Cartel.

Meme from Bubba's....revisited for the second time

Found this meme over at Bubba's.

1. Where were you 1 hour ago?
-- At the grocery store buying some items for a nice dinner. We will be having a Japanese crab salad, sweet yams, fried cucumbers (a simple German dish) and Dirty Rice. The crab salad & the fried cucumbers are from "The Frugal Gourmet." It is a nice dinner for 4....and we paid $28.28 total....way less & way nicer than we would dining out.
2. When is the last time you filled up your gas tank?
-- My husband does that...I don’t pay much attention. This was the same answer as last time. Sometimes I give him gas money & then I notice.
3. What is the most amount of money you've spent in one store?
-- Around $2,000 for my last computer (about 4 years ago). I had to go a distance to get what I wanted. The salesperson was surprised when I paid cash.

4. Is there anything pink within 10 feet of you?
-----a highlighter (the same one as last time I answered this meme)
-----a ballon that says "Think Pink" with the Pink Panther on it....a gift to someone expecting a little girl but it got packed away & they had the little girl a long time ago so, now that I have found it, I am giving it to the little girl
-----a receipt for having carpets cleaned
-----a Breast Cancer awareness log
-----a statue of an Indian Girl/angel holding a long boquet of pink flowers. I found this at a thrift shop.
-----a ball of wax left over from some sculpture my husband did.
-----a plastic bubble from a gum ball machine. The bottom is pink.
-----the inside of a seashell
-----one of the sheets for sleeping under in the summer
-----a book whose title I can't read from here

5. When is the last time you went to the mall?
--3 days ago for the dreaded haircut. I go to a nice salon but I don't fit in with the clientel. I feel bad when attendants are snotty because I choose not to dress up. I like getting my hair cut by a good stylist though.
6. Are you wearing socks right now?
--Two different colors of black. One is nylon & one is cotton. I don't care as I am wearing pants.
7. Do you have a car worth over $50,000?
--No.....don’t want or believe in such. I do like some cars that are expensive but would never buy one unless every other priority in my life were well-taken-care-of.
8. When was the last time you drove out of town?
--Last week...some gaming store (role-playing) that was closed by the time we got there.
9. Have you been to the movies in the last 5 days?
-- No. We attempted to watch the Manchurian Candidate on DVD yesterday but were both two tired to get through it....hubby & I. The last movie I saw in the theaters was Pirates 3 & the next one that I am planning to see is Transformers. I never got to see "In Pursuit of Happyness" in the theatres...I am disappointed.
10. Are you popular?
-- Sometimes...depends on whom the judging party is.
11. What was the last thing you had to drink?
--A Pepsi Summer Mix...at first I thought it was okay, then I thought it was really good. Pepsi Summer Mix is one of those Limited-Time-Only-Things. I am still not supposed to have caffeine due to thyroid problems.
12. What was the last thing you mailed in the mail?
--A bill. I usually do most correspondence (including bills) online.
13. Do you wash your car?
--Sadly, a few times a year. This hasn't changed since the last time I answered this.
14. Last fast food you ate?
--Subway when I didn't have time to pack a lunch.
15. Where were you last week at this time?
--Likely sitting at this computer....blogging.
16. Have you bought any clothing items in the last week?
--Yes...a Zorro t-shirt, a t-shirt with a dragon on it and a t-shirt with gorillas that I am going to make into a pillow....all at a thrift store.
17. What bank do you use?
-- I am not telling…..nah, nah, nuh, nah, nah. I do however despise my bank....this, if anything, has gotten worse since the last time I did this meme. Ah....the things we put up with for convenience.
18. Do you own any land?
--Someday
19. What do you want to be when you "grow up"?
-- Wise and educated. Happy. Passionate about the things that I enjoy/love/am learning. Smiley. Not bored.

20. Your dream vacation?
-- Seeing St. Peter’s Square….I just like something about it. I really want to look up at the statues.
--I also want to go whale watching & have a dolphin experience.
--Zorbing (going down a hill in a ball)

21. Last boat ride you went on?
--Long time ago
22. How old are your parents?
-------would not like me to answer
23. Are you in love?
-- Yes...with my wonderful husband who always carries the groceries. People have told me that I am lucky to have a husband that always carries the groceries.
24. Do you have any single friends?
-- Yes…very kind people or people that don't truly like their intended (don't ask...but if you know who you are, find someone who truly makes you happy...and I am referring to more than one friend here). See how nicely I tucked subtle advice to my friends into this answer. :-)
25. Last play you saw?
-- I don’t remember. I wish that I got to see plays often. The last script that I read was a part of Good Will Hunting...I love that movie.
26. Have you been to New York?
-- No, and I wouldn’t go right now. I think New York is just too dangerous a place to be while we are at war.
27. What are your plans for tonight?
--Getting ready for bed....sometime or other as I feel mighty awake.
28. Last concert you went to?
-- John Mellencamp…this was awesome. He has a good sound system. I enjoyed the parts where a woman plays the violin & that he had Gospel music playing before the concert. I enjoyed Alice Peacock who was his opening act.
29. Next trip you are going to take?
--The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, Portland Oregon.
30. Ever go to camp?
-- Yes...several times & kinds.
31. Were you an honor roll student in school?
--Yes….sometimes
32. What is your current GPA?
-- 4.0….what a juggling act with life I have. I am a business major.
33. Are you wearing any perfume or cologne?
--Green Tea Body Mist & some violet-scented deodorant
34. Are you hungry?
--No, but the Pepsi Summer Mix is making me think that I am a little bit...caffeine makes me jittery seldom-this is seldom.
35. Where is your best friend located?
-- My husband...around here somewhere. Said that he was going to go "play"...video game, art project....I don't know. Playing is good.
36. Do you own a cowboy hat?
-- No…but I would if I found one that I liked. I own a lot of other hats. I am constantly trying to find a cowboy hat that I like....maybe I should look somewhere better than WalMart.
37. Do you have a tan?
-- No....I would love to but I wouldn't love it if I got skin cancer. :-(
--I do have some foundation that is supposed to give me a natural glow. I haven't use it yet.

38. How old do you want to be when you have kids?
--I don't know.....right now health problems keep me from this. We have names picked if it ever becomes a possibility. I am attempting to win the Blog For Year Contest in order to be able to take good care of prospective wee ones.

You can vote for me daily if you enjoy my blogging efforts. :-)

39. Do you collect anything?
--writing utensils, pencil cups, books, crayons, comic books, jewelry, maps, ribbon, artificial flowers to make arrangements, vases & containers, the Queen from chess sets, old dominoes, glassware
40. Is this quiz annoying?
-- It is long but I had a little fun....obviously, as this is the third time I am doing it.
41. Last time you got pulled over?
-- Years ago….a friend was driving with some defective piece of equipment….only got a verbal warning & told to get out of the area quickly as they had to do a raid right away in that exact spot. What are the odds of that???
42. Ever been arrested?
-- If I had,I don’t believe people should talk about that kind of stuff online….I don’t find that entertaining about anyone.
43. Been to Mexico for Spring Break?
--No
44. Do you like hot sauce?
--Yes...for some reason I accidentally answered no to this last time. :-)
--My husband teases me because I once almost drank the hot sauce bottle instead of my beer when I wasn't watching what I was doing at a Mexican restaurant. No, I hadn't had many sips of the beer.
45. Last time you sang Karaoke?
-- Planning to sing 500 Miles by The Hooters. I have never sang karoake before but I often tape myself practicing singing in the privacy of my own home. I also would like to sing "You Don't Know How It Feels" by Tom Petty.

I told you that I would do this meme again at some point...I think that sometimes the answers to memes change & that adds to the fun. :-)
-----There are still plans to attempt charging a fee of 8 dollars (21 dollars for trucks) for entering parts of New York City.
-----I knew that a lot of law enforcement agencies were considering a bracelet that monitors alcohol usage. I did not know that many agencies were already using this device & that it reports every hour.
Post September-11th, some prisons are attempting to ban/limit religious books & services. Many prisoners are upset by this.

Space Camp

Brent Simon plays his original song "Space Camp." He is very good on the piano.

I am still wondering if there is an adult Space Camp....as I want to go.

Anyway....below is the same song when Brent did it on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." I believe that I caught a bit of that performance.

Battle of New Orleans......Katrina

Well...one wonders if someone will try to get this video pulled. Anyway...I do think that there were people (whatever color) who used Katrina's devastation to what they thought was their advantage. :-(

(Battle of New Orleans....the real song, is one of my favorites.)
-----We watched part of The Manchurian Candidate with Wesley Snipes last night. A very good movie from what I can tell but we had to turn it off as we were both really tired. I think that we will start from the beginning on our second watch-attempt.
--Correction that is The Manchurian Candidate with Denzel Washington...I have a tendency to get the two actors confused.
--BJ tells me that the original movie with Angela Lansbury & Frank Sinatra is very good.

-----This evening we are transplanting a mulberry tree (from a pot & into the ground). The evening is a good time to transplant them as it is cooler. Of course, we will do the transplanting while we can still see. :-)

This one had almost died completely due to the shock of being moved....or so it appeared. Now, it is starting to look beautiful again. The lesson...don't give up on your plants too soon as they may surprise you. I only knew not to give up through the urgings of my mother-in-law & the advice of a helpful stranger. :-)

The Blogroll Game.....I am visiting all the book blogs first

I have visited the following blogs in this game:

50 Books

A Garden Carried in the Pocket...a title that I love by the way since it describes books so aptly.

I am waiting for the audio book to come in at one of the libraries I use. The audio book is 9 discs!!!

One of the Kings of the Jungle

Congratulate me. I have been allowed to adopted this lion as my inspiration. I am a member of The Shameless Lions Writing Circle. :-)

My lion is named Nin. If you are into music, you may get the reference. :-)
It is neat that Nin is walking through a fountain.

I am writing a poem about my lion & the problems that his spikes cause him in making true friendships (and the barriers we all have in doing this). At this point the last line is "King of All Except Oneself"

Still attempting to blog for a year.....
of course, I will anyway. :-)

Clarification: This is not a goal of blogging for a year but a contest where you get paid to blog for a year (if you win). :-)

Will one of the Kings of the Jungle come to live on my blog???

I am hoping to virtually adopt this lion as a part of an online writing circle. Stay tuned & wish me luck in getting the lion.

Isn't that a great photo by the way?

Where have all the pets gone
(Yes, this was supposed to be a play on a Peter,Paul and Mary song)

In California there is a bill that may become a law forcing citizens to spay or neuter their cats & dogs. I think it is a rather extreme solution to so greatly reduce the dog & cat population. This will be a lot of business for breeders though. Those who do the spaying & neutering will gain a lot of income too. I don't think that this should be a law...there should be more enforcing/reform of the current pet limitations.

I am reading all the book blogs listed first. I am a voracious reader as of late. I have been at the library for one reason or another several times this week. :-)

8 Random Things About Me (Meme)

1. I like Cirque du Soleil a lot. I have seen them in person. Right now I am listening to a audiobook about Cirque du Soleil called "The Spark"....I am on CD 2 of 3. This audiobook is teaching me a lot about creativity.

2. I have an addiction to thrift stores. I am even planning to travel in order to visit thrift stores.

3. I have decided that I am going to attempt running in a marathon at some point. This is a very lofty goal for me since I have a lot of leg problems.

4. I want to be strong enough to swing on a trapeze....with an extremely good safety harness. I don't know if I would be brave enough to do flips & such....but I do want to swing from one bar to the next. :-)

5. Is there a Space Camp for adults? I want to go.

6. My favorite bookmark was bought at Harvest Bible Chapel's bookstore in Rolling Meadows (a Chicago suburb)....it says "Garden of Weedin'." I went to a marriage encounter weekend at which Gary Chapman, author of "The Five Love Languages" spoke several times. It was a life-changing weekend.

7. I have a new statue of the comic book character Shi...well, actually it is a model from a Wiz Kids game. The little things that one treasures. It's small, so I might display it by putting a magnifying glass in front of it. :-)

8. I often try the things that are recommended on the blogs of others...movies, recipes, etc. This has greatly enriched my life & I would reccomend that everyone branch out in the Blogosphere. :-)

I found this meme on "The World According to Carl."
---These were the answers to the meme on "The World According to Carl."

You are supposed to tag eight other people to do this meme....I am just saying whoever wants to answer. :-)

Thursday Thirteen...
Revisiting Thirteen Things I Blogged About in June 2006

1. The government has an extensive list of the measures that one should take in case of a chemical attack.

And Thomas pointed out:
"In the 1980s, a truck carrying chemicals overturned in Houston and several people were killed by the toxic fumes. The tips in your link would be equally valuable in case of an accidental chemical release."
(Thomas' blog "Living Next Door to Alice" is one of my favorite blogs by the way.)

2. My thoughts on placing links on your blog:
"I don't link to places that I don't like either. I have also withdrawn links at times too...for lack of activity or lack of intelligent content. I feel it is just something you have to do....at the least, a link indicates something of interest, so it is bad to send your readers to what I call "bog blogs". Bog blogs are those blogs where it looks like there may be something, you wade in search of that something, and come up gasping for air with nothing."

3. I have always been a fan of "9mm SFX"...a company that makes theatrical contact lenses.
My favorites are:
-----The double iris...imagine the close looks you will get with that one
-----Blue Sclera...I find it strangely pretty
-----Inferno
-----A spider....I think this one would be fun...maybe even in just one eye.
-And, though I personally don't like it, here is a zombie for all the zombie-film fans.
-My new favorite is Red Orc.

4. Moby talks about Net Neutrality

5.

Buy at Art.com
Montana Cowgirls
17x11 Fine Art Print
Buy From Art.com

Today I saw a little girl pretending to be a cowgirl....you don't see that kind of pretend often anymore....there is less & less wholesomeness in our society (sadly, including children).

6.If you could advise our 2008 President on any issue(s)...what would you say? How could the President make a difference????

7. My comments on one of Jerry Springer's Radio Shows...there are no bouncers on his radio shows. It is just straight talk of political issues. I wish that he had never gone down the bouncer/guest-rebellion road.

8. Lessons from Nanny...a blogger talks candidly about what he learned from his grandmother.

9. A photo that I took entitled "Romantic Dinner on Fire." Any suggestions on improvements to the title???

10. And, of course, talking about the bird flu that was a scare at that time...and is more vaguely a scare now. Do you think that there is a real threat from the bird flu?

11.Thomas Lowell Tucker...a young man who volunteered to go to Iraq during wartime & was killed.

12. Cajungrocer.com
I was looking there to purchase frog legs.

13. The best Father's Day gift

Kimodo Dragon Kills Little Boy

A Kimodo Dragon actually attacked an 8-year-old...something that hasn't happened in decades. Hopefully, this is a fluke & will not happen again.

Gene Simmons on Iraq

Gene Simmons of Kiss talks about Iraq. There is even a picture of him without the makeup sitting & talking to the soldiers.

Gene makes the comment that we are apathetic to the soldiers. I am not...I try to thank them or their parents whenever I can. The only time that I have not been able to bring myself to do this is when the soldier is back on leave & acting beyond belief cruel to everyone around them...yes, I have seen this happen a few times (and thanking them gets you more cruelty).

Anyway...I think that he is very sincere in his cause & I am glad that he considers himself an "Earthling first" (Gene has an Israeli background).
The danger of lawn darts. I know people who actually miss playing with lawn darts...all men who found it adventurous when they were young.
One condemned prisoner wants to tell a joke at his execution & is asking for submissions. Many people disapprove of this.

Update:This article has moved....I will have to find another link to it.

Reading more of Bush's Saturday Radio Address

Text of President Bush's Saturday Radio Address.

"Next week, I will travel to Europe to attend the G8 summit. At this meeting, the leaders of industrialized nations will discuss ways we can work together to advance trade, fight disease, promote development that works, increase access to education, and address the long-term challenge of global climate change."

The Loch Ness Elephant

Could recent Loch Ness Monster sighting have been an elephant? You have to admit it does look a lot like an elephant.

-----I found a site sort of like 43 Things...it's called "SuperViva."
-----I almost lost the ball on the trigger mouse for my laptop. It fell on the ground & went rolling across a porch. I am relieved to have found it as I could have never found it again. :-)
-----I need a haircut. I dread haircuts.
The difference between how men & women change oil...funny. :-)

Pasta Possibilities

Notice the Ramen noodles book. :-)
What do you do with Ramen???

-I don't know if this is the funniest or saddest photo I have ever seen of pasta.

A great way to make some money over the summer....PayPerPost

Every once-in-a-while, I get paid to blog.

I have written about such a variety of stuff:
-A PayPerPost sponsored wedding in Las Vegas
-A fun post about muscle cars...I made it into a group activity of muscle photos.
-A review about martini glasses. I love martini glasses & I made a martini vinegarette to go along with this posting. I call it "Learning the Art of Shaken Not Stirred." Someday I will be good at making martinis.
-Informing readers of the importance of Blog Disclosure Policies...letting people know that you are being paid for posting. By the way, I am getting paid for this post. :-)

PayPerPost is not simply blog marketing...I have actually found a lot of interesting things on here (like there is a new Police classic tracks CD coming out).

Being a participant in PayPerPost is addictive. I have started teaching friends & relatives how to find things to post about that they are interested in. They saw my interest & that it was working for me here on my blog...I have made a little over a hundred dollars.
-There are people who have actually made several thousand dollars...I just don't have the time. :-)

I admire the fact that a startup company like this has done so well. I have been writing PayPerPosts since August 2006.:-)

Sunday 7....My First Time Playing

This week's topic is fear. We are supposed to list 7 things we fear most.

Without a doubt my Number 1 is Death. I think about it a lot. I wonder about the afterlife & sometimes have short-lived crisis of faith episodes. There...that was a very honest answer.

Number 2...the death or loss of loved ones.

Number 3...violent people. This covers so much....from terrorist to drunk drivers. You name it...I get upset by it.

Number 4...losing my eyesight. I think that it might happen sooner or later.

Number 5...losing the ability to walk. This might happen to me sooner or later too (based on both my own leg problems & those that run in the family). I'll manage...I just don't want it to happen.

Number 6...Thyroid Cancer or my thyroid not functioning at all. Also if I get Alzheimer's how to tell it from the "fuzzy mind" that comes with hypothyroidism.

Number 7....Nuclear war/Armageddon. The last days of the Earth as we know it.

The Sunday 7 Meme is run by Patrick's Weekender.
