Sunday Stealing

1. What’s your favorite thing about the holidays?
The excitement of happy family time.

Spreading the light at Christmas Service last year...Husband's and my candle.

A Christmas Eve tradition from my side of the family.

2. Do you send out Christmas cards and if so how many do you send?
Sometimes we make a card and post it online. I direct message this to close loved ones who might not notice. Our budget does not allow for paper card and I like my Husband's designs for what we do.

3. Be honest: holiday newsletters. Love ‘em or hate ‘em?
Love them if they are detailed. I especially love them if the family has gotten happiness that year.

4. Be honest: photo cards. Love ‘em or hate ‘em?
Love them.

5. How soon do you start shopping?
July or October...depends on the year. This year we have one special present that has to wait until after Christmas due to unexpected fees...sigh.

6. Real or fake tree?
I would love real but opt for fake...too much childhood memory of months of pine needles tucked between floorboards.

7. When do you put up your tree?
Varies each year. It is up already this year. Some years it is brought with presents on Christmas Eve.

8. When do you take down your tree?
Well, late as April. It stays up depending on whether we have, or might have, guests for other celebrations-we want them to get to see it.

9. Describe your typical tree (size, decorations, type)
A tree we got shortly after getting married...7 feet. I'd like it to be less sparse but it is pretty. We usually put flowers in the tree (I love this). This year, stuff has been rearranged...half the ornaments and all but one of the flowers are missing. I am having the kids fill up the tree with homemade ornaments....that has been great.

10. What do you top your tree with?
A fairy angel. Husband is a Christian, sometimes a skeleton angel.

11. Do you put Christmas lights outside your house?

12. Is there a wreath hanging on your door?
Daughter is in the process of making one with smiley snowmen which will probably go on a door in the house.

13. Do you hang up stockings?
We sometimes put them under the tree.

14. Your favorite Christmas Movie(s)
I don't have one. I did enjoy "Merry Friggin' Christmas" somewhat recently...Robin Williams. I also appreciated watching "The Holiday" this year (romance).
Preschool Girl: It's called "The Nutmare before Christmas."
Preschool Girl: (later, after explanation): I think you're wrong.
Preschool Girl: Oh, I think it's called the Nutmare Before Christmas because of his nut-shaped head.

15. Be honest: A Christmas movie you don't like
Ummm...most of them. I am not big on Santa or prolonged depictions of people not getting along.

16. Favorite Christmas Song(s)
Cover versions. Anything from what is left of my parents' record collection...I have 55 Christmas records.

17. Be honest: If I hear this/these Christmas songs again I will throw up
Canned Christmas music in stores the day after Halloween!

18. Give or Receive?
Give...though a a receive of a very loving gift is so wonderful.

19. Eggnog or Mulled Cider?
Eggnog with plenty of well-blended nutmeg. The Krakken Rum in eggnog...yummy. I do love to mull cider!

20. Ham or Turkey?
Ham with some sort of homemade fruit or whole-grain mustard glaze.

I think that I lost interest in decorating for Christmas when the kids all moved away.
It's sweet that you have so many of your parents' Christmas records.
Have a good Holiday time. Merry merry!

Zippi Kit,
It is nice to have you visit my blog again. :-)
We take our decorating and, even celebrating, slow. I have been known to put up Winter decorations after the holidays. This year we had an entirely drama and stress-free Thanksgiving (though some tried to emerge shortly after)...I was so happy in succeeding at that. I still haven't gotten around to turkey(s)-our home celebration consisted of a lot of family moments and many awesome recipes that I spaced out.
I am lucky to have the records. :-)
Good holidays to you, too!
