Adding to the Never Cooked with List.

Licensed Photo. "Farmhouse Fireplace" Taken by Roger Kirby.

A list of things that I have never cooked with (but intend to try).

I have never cooked with:

-----Acerola. I want to try the fruit that has been grown well....so it is sweet (not sour).

-----Agar Agar Perhaps I can try these Vegetarian Lemon Bars.

-----Almond milk (reportedly Michael Jackson had it with granola for breakfast)
-----Arrowroot powder
-----Barley Malt Syrup. The best way to use it is along with other natural sweeteners...I do not know what sweeteners I will use it with yet.
-----Bay scallops...or any scallops. Some of the people on Hell's Kitchen make cooking scallops seem like rocket science.
-----Bean sprouts. I have eaten them. Ham and Bean Sprout Salad sounds interesting.
-----Black sesame seeds. I have seen these mentioned many times and I am really eager to try them.
-----Cashew butter
-----Chipotle Tabasco
-----Curry Powder
-----Dark sesame oil. Sesame oil itself was on the list but I am now working my way through a bottle. :-) I have read that some people keep sesame oil in the fridge....this is what I am trying. Sesame oil can go rancid quickly.
-----Dry mustard
-----Enoki mushrooms.Mild.Crunch. Used for soups and stir fries.
-----Farro
-----Fennel
-----Fleur de Sel (maybe I have had this....haven't paid attention to sea salt labels)
-----Fried squash blossoms
-----Frozen ramen
-----Garlic Tabasco
-----Ground Szechuan peppercorns
-----Halloumi Cheese
-----Haricot Vert. French green beans. We will eventually be growing Haricot Vert.
-----Harissa....how to make Harissa Grilled Halibut with Grilled Red Pepper Harissa
-----Hoisin sauce. My first recipe candidate for cooking with hoison sauce is Salmon Summer Rolls with Dipping Sauce.....that way I get to learn to use the rice paper for rolling, too. I am also interested in this Beef and Green Bean Stir-fry ( I sometimes break my soy taboo and use soy sauce).
-----Hotel Bar butter. Part of New York cuisine for over a century.
-----Japanese soy sauce. There is a difference between Japanese soy sauce and the stuff we get in The States.
-----Katsoubushi (dried bonito flakes). Bonito flakes are bits of dried bonito fish and they look like wood shavings. They are perfectly edible by humans....but in the United States some companies sell them as cat treats (I do not want to eat the cat treats). Bonito is a type of tuna.
-----Kelp.Supposed to increase thyroid function...and I have thyroid problems. There are some kelp items I will be trying in addition to any recipes.
-----Kombu
-----Leeks. I will be making Julia Child's Potage Parmentier (Potato and Leek Soup). Apparently, you can add green beans to Potage Parmentier....I will likely not like that as I DETEST POTATO SOUP WITH GREEN BEANS IN IT.
-----Lilacs. I want to learn the different ways they are edible.
-----Linguica. I don't know about this one. It will depend on the consistency. I do not eat a lot of pork things...partly because they sometimes make me sick.
-----Mache
-----Maltitol Syrup. A sugar-free corn syrup substitute. 90% as sweet as sugar with about half the calories.

-----Manuka Honey

-----Mirin. A co-worker was surprised that I know what it is.
-----Monkfish
-----Muscovado Sugar
-----Napa cabbage
-----Nori. I tried my first Nori independent of California Rolls rolls this week. It looked like a papery-green-jerky strip and reminded me of fish skin. I liked it.
-----Peanut oil
-----Pickled ginger. I have eaten it...just never cooked with it myself.
-----Pine Nuts (never tasted one)
-----Pomegranate Molasses.
-----Powdered peanut butter. It has a lot of possible uses...sprinkled as a flavoring on or in a lot of things. I want to use it in a stir fry...perhaps Kung Pao Chicken.
-----Roasted peanut oil
-----Salsify  Rich and Creamy Salsify Gratin
-----Sansho pepper (Japanese pepper seedpods)
-----Seitan
-----Sesame Seeds
-----Sherry Wine Vinegar
-----Shimeji mushrooms. Have to be cooked....otherwise are bitter.
-----Shungiku
-----Soba Noodles. I have had them...but have not cooked them myself.
-----Sorrel
-----Squid. I love to eat it.....but NOT pickled. Ditto for octopus on not having cooked and the same eating preferences as the squid.
-----Star Anise. Perhaps I will make the Haitian recipe Akasan.
-----Sweet Bean Paste
-----Tahini. Tomato Salad with Tahini Sauce....talks about eating it during Ramadan (I am assuming during the non-fasting hours).
-----Tamarind paste
-----Tarragon Wine Vinegar
-----Tobanjan (Chinese chili paste)
-----Wakame. If I figured a way to grow it, I would be careful since Wakame is invasive.
-----Wood ear mushrooms. My first cooking with Wood Ear Mushrooms will likely be Chicken and Wood Ear Mushroom Soup. The Chicken and Wood Ear Mushroom Soup uses peanut oil (which I have not cooked with yet).
-----Yellow Crookneck Squash

After consideration, I took off all the soy items....miso and so on. I am not supposed to have them due to my thyroid problems and think that I can't truly enjoy never being able to taste a dish I cook. I want to be able to try more than a few bites of a dish....so I can make my own judgement as to whether it turned out well.

-----Apparently, North Korea wants the U.S. to give them 75 trillion dollars. I know nothing about the Korean War.
-----Protests against rebuilding the Touchdown Jesus statue.

In My Life....

-----I hurt my wrist pretty bad but don't know how. There is a bruise about an inch long and it even hurts to type at times.....hopefully, this will be gone by Cornerstone Festival (I will be on the blogging team). Hopefully, I don't have to go to the doctor about this wrist issue.
-----I have to find some kind of present to send to a new nephew. I usually do piggy banks that I and others can contribute miscellaneous change to but I do not see this sibling that much. Maybe I can start a piggy bank and then give it as a Christmas gift? :-)
-----Cornerstone Festival is so close. Today (when I wake up), will be my Packing-and-Making-a-List-of-Things-Not-to-Forget-Day. :-)
-----Thank God our car is still operating....it just stopped working last week. Apparently, it was the alternator. I have health issues that would really prohibit me from waiting for a bus on humid days.
-----Keeping one sibling in my thoughts and prayers....not something I can mention online....though I wish I could. Keeping my work situation in my thoughts and prayers....not something I can mention online though I wish I could.
-----Keeping my Mother, who has Stage 4 Breast Cancer in my thoughts and prayers....nothing new on this front....the cancer is not growing but is THERE....and there is nothing more other than shots right now.
-----Thankful that Doggie seems to be getting more trained. :-) Of course, she cannot come to Cornerstone with us. She will get more kenneling practice while we are gone. Doggie has never been away from us for this long....so I am sure they will notice that where she is staying....she has a tendency to want to go out just to look for the car and sniff for her people. Doggie's predecessor at least once thought that she could take you on a walk to her home when being babysat. :-) We will be homesick for the Doggie, too.
-----We had bratwurst and some potato salad for dinner last night....yummy. I really liked the potato salad and want to try it with baconbits (and maybe some cooked frozen peas and little bits of onion). I will have to look up the brand before I throw out the container.
-----Getting excite about trying this simple recipe that I found....Tuna Potato Chip Casserole. For some reason, I just think it will turn out well.
-----A friend has the most intelligent child as far as reading before entering school that I have ever seen. I am impressed. I learned to read before entering school.....what about you?

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

-----Tuna Potato Chip Casserole
-----Potato Chip Chicken Casserole
-----Cheesy Potato Chip Breadsticks
-----Cracked Pepper Potato Chips with Onion Dip
-----Potato Chip Haystacks
-----Potato Chip Pie Dough. Recipe says that it makes a good apple pie crust.

A bunch of Misc. :-)

-----Which (if any) of these unusual ice cream flavors would you eat? I would (maybe) try the squid ink ice cream.
-----These hotdogs are not very healthy. Some of them look yummy though. I am not a big hot dog fan unless they are cooked over an open flame or rotisserie. I don't think I would like the breakfast dog....sounds to greasy for me....my stomach usually starts turning in the middle of eating super-greasy food.
-----Starbucks items that are not on the menu.
-----Colored bacon. What do you think gives the color? Would you eat it?

-----Church rejects offer to rebuild Jesus statue....with a PETA message on it.
-----Statue made with 2,500 used Coca Cola crates. I think it looks dangerous at the top....not say that it is.
-----"World's first bald bear." I wonder if maybe this is not the world's first bald bear and if some of the unusual creatures spotted are bears or other animals that have something wrong physically.

-----Tourism is harming these popular travel spots.
-----Women will now be able to serve on submarines.
-----This man has saved so many from committing suicide.

Currently I am keeping the following in my thoughts & prayers:

As far as I know, the stepdaughter and one son are doing better medically. So sad to lose a father and son/brother the day before Father's Day.

-----An 11-year-old  in critical condition. He suffered head trauma after a car fell on  him. This occured Friday (6/18)....I have not found anything new on  this.
-----"Mama Bear" who is pregnant. This is her first biological child.
-----Three issues in my life right now. Husband was talking to some friends of ours yesterday and all 13 people who happened to be there started praying about it.....amazing and I am grateful for this.
-----4 people died when the van they were in was hit by an Amtrak train.
-----A new friend of ours is having some financial trouble.
-----Will Joran van der Sloot really give details on the Holloway case if he is sent to Aruba???
-----Audra Brownell. A 17-year-old who died after being hit by a falling rock in Colorado.
-----Demarco Harris. A 13-year-old who was found guilty of murder. I hope that he is able to turn his (young) life around. Demarco's case will be evaluated again when he turns 21. Demarco will stay in my thoughts and prayers until he turns 21. More details of the sentencing.
-----The children of a mother who was stabbed to death with a sword at a party. This occured in front of her children.
-----@HomelessThomOC He has recently found a place to live and job (for now). I am praying that things continue to go well for James (his real name). Thom is a businessman who became homeless and was living in hotels via travel rewards. After the rewards ran out, Thom spent 5 months living out of his leased car!
-----That Madeleine McCann is found soon.
-----A postal worker was killed in an apparent dog attack.
-----"The Hikers" who have been detained in Iran for over 300 days now. I was one of many who had a Freedom Day. Is there anything you can do to call attention to this plight?
-----Several family members (including my Mother) have diabetes. My Mother also has Stage 4 Breast Cancer and possibly some risk for another heart attack.
-----Fully Sick Rapper....at least he is trying to make himself and others smile.

Note: I would not advise linking to this post...you will wind up with a broken link each time I have to change the post-dating to keep this a Vigil at the Top.

-----Homeowner cleared in fatal shooting. It sounds like this was a terrifying experience for the homeowner. So sad, that a young man would do something that could jeopardize (and lose) their life like that at age 17. What do you think of "Make My Day" laws?
-----Fictional Anne Frank love story is angering some.  I think that I would be angry if I were a family member of Anne's, too. The reason that I say that I would be angry, is that fiction can be so powerful. I would find anything that was misleading to be harmful to the memory of my loved one.
-----A young boy's homemade patriotic hat is determined to violate school's No Guns Policy. What do you think?
-----Do you want your license plate to have ads? At one point in the article, it seems like drivers might have control over some of the ads featured. This is a whole new kind of "gaper's block."

Sad. RIP Trisha Babcock.

Demarco Harris is 13 and has been found guilty of a murder committed when he was 12. He was basically given a chance to look at this again when he is 21....but to be detained the whole time. Should he have gotten life in prison at age 12/13? Some are saying that the death penalty would be appropriate!

More details of the sentence. This is an ultra-compassionate sentence....which, from what I have read, does not always keep the person from committing future crimes. I hope that a comprehensive rehabilitation program is planned....or that Demarco's family/Church tries to help ensure that he is rehabilitated. I will make sure to include Demarco in my prayers until he turns 21. :-(
-I know that Demarco's mother has expressed much emotion about this....maybe she will go a great way to ensuring rehabilitation. Demarco's father actually turned him in. Perhaps his family will help...and the lives of two  young people will not be ruined forever.

Trisha's obituary. You can leave a note on the guestbook which is up until sometime in August.

Joran van der Sloot

According to the video, the prison Joran van der Sloot is being held in is one of the worst in the world. I can see why he might want to give info on the Natalee Holloway case in a bid to go to Aruba. I always try to hold a person innocent in my mind until proven guilty....such a young man.....this is so much more so a tragedy because of Joran's youth. Assuming Joran truly did murder or have Natalee Holloway disposed of, I hope that he gives this info and quickly. Hugs to the Holloway and Flores families.....I am sorry for your pain.

Cooking with Nettles.

 The Mystery of Nettle
"Can nettles be beautiful?"
Licensed photo....DO NOT COPY w/o checking license terms.

-----How to make nettle beer. I would be nervous to drink this because I have unexpected reactions to a lot of things.

I have read that nettle can be used much the same as spinach. Apparently, a lot of chefs cook with nettles.

-----Nettle soup. I like recipes where it is more instructions that you can remember and just do later. A lot of times, I do not really use recipes but estimates.
-----Sorrel and Stinging Nettle Soup

-----Stinging Nettle Pesto

-----Green Nettle Gnocchi with Cream and Herbs. From Twelve Cookbook.

-----Nettle Pancakes. A variation on a traditional dish from Finland.  Nettle is actually more nutritious than spinach....has a high amount of calcium and  iron. Nettles also have a high amount of oxalic acid which would not be beneficial if one had kidney problems....since I get some signs of kidney issues when overexerting myself, I will not be having nettle myself just as a precaution (I still love to collect up the recipes though). I will likely try several of the nettle recipes I am listing here.....but substitute spinach.

Tooth Pulling

Dad rips son's tooth out with a rocket. What do you think of this? I do not know that much about rockets...but think that this could be dangerous if the rocket somehow does something not intended while tied to his tooth. I also think that this is dangerous if someone imitates it in an unsafe manner.

I found this tooth pulling to be safer. Obviously, the tooth was already really loose.

Do you have any unusual tooth-pulling stories?

When I was growing up, the dentist said NOT to pull loose teeth.

Demarco Harris Sentencing

Demarco Harris is 13 and has been found guilty of a murder committed when he was 12. He was basically given a chance to look at this again when he is 21....but to be detained the whole time. Should he have gotten life in prison at age 12/13? Some are saying that the death penalty would be appropriate!

More details of the sentence.

In My Life....

-----There are two new Hell's Kitchen episodes up on Hulu. Awesome.
-----Please keep a new friend of ours in your thoughts and prayers....finances.
-----There were a few moments I found insulting from co-workers today. I don't understand random hostility or treating someone like an idiot for no reason. Beyond three actions, it was a tolerable day. I hope that some other opportunity comes up for me eventually.
-----I am very shocked by the allegations of cheating against Al Gore. I have always seen Al Gore as very Christian. After his vice-presidency, I really admired Gore's commitment to speak out for the cause he believed in. I hope that the cheating allegations are not true. I used to think Edwards was all that he represented himself to be, too. I feel sorry for wives that have this happen to them. :-(

Keep Kyron Horman in your thoughts and prayers.

Kyron Horman has now been missing 12 days.....Portland, Oregon. Kyron is 7-years-old. Sadly, he has already missed a milestone due to whatever happened....his final day of second grade.

The number for the tipline is 503-261-2847
This is now a crime investigation.

-----Details about the day Kyron disappeared.
-----The family is urging people in the surrounding area to search their properties.

-----There was apparently a little boy spotted matching the description but it was not Kyron. This is still a search effort (as opposed to a recover effort). Kyron's family has urged people not to give up hope and to keep searching.

  • I am glad to see that the police are telling people not to worry about whatever they have in their     house, car, etc....that this is being put aside for a bit....I think short of things like someone's dead body, evidence of pedophilia, etc that this is a good idea.
  • I like the method of showing people similar clothes and making it so they get to know the missing person....so, Kyron is not far from their thoughts as they recall recent events or see something that might be useful during daily activities..

peliCAN - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

All proceeds will be donated to Gulf Restoration Network.

In My Life....

-----The duet "Defining Fate" does not seem to be coming to Cornerstone anymore. I am disappointed if this is so....and hope all is alright with them. I really wanted to hear a song about Jesus called "His Fairytale".....Jesus is the Prince Charming in the song, does not ride upon a white horse but dies upon a cross, and this Prince Charming will always be. A song I could listen to over and over.
------My work was one of its better days today....still really abysmal. Someone there likes to directly insult me....though I have done nothing to said person....that was only hard to deal with a couple of times today. To complain will only cause more problems and that is only one of the things I have to deal with at my work. I hope that God brings something into my life where I don't have to be there. I don't deserve this treatment.....I have a stronger work ethic than most people I have ever met.
------There was definitely an uncalled for moment on a recent Days of Our Lives episode. It came across as  a commercial/educational moment for the Morning After Pill. One of the characters then indicated that God must have put her in the right place at the right time.....to advise about the Morning After Pill.

When a person is rescued, they have to pay fees for it?

In My Life....

-----Went to a worship service at Wake the Dead today. There was a lot of variety in the service and it gave me some things to think about.
-----Cornerstone Festival is drawing closer. I hope that I have my blogging plans completely in order before we go. I love to live-blog and live-tweet....but, of course, it takes a lot of planning as far as equipment and a list of what you are planning to cover. I get to be part of the blogging team, so I am excited to see what new people that will bring me to converse with in the blogosphere (and in real life).
-----Got Grandmother-in-Law a soap dish that she will like a book/antique store in Decatur called "The Book Barn."
-----I have never been to El Rodeo (Mexican restaurant chain). I like my enchiladas a little different but not bad and the prices were reasonable. I liked that there was a lot of seating and they were well-organized in serving.
-----Spotted a Chinese buffet in Decatur that I would love to try.....prices much cheaper than my current hometown. I will have to look up the name....which I, of course promptly wrote down.
-----Saw a great concert the other night at River City Music Experience.....August Zymbal, Firesale, The Heat Machine and The Agrestix.
-----Hoping that I can go to or read about some of the Intensify Illinois events this week.
-----I have been thinking about how I can help those in prisons (spiritually and with their future).....but I have been holding back on doing this as I think something bad would surely happen if I put myself in harm's way. Oddly enough, after one of the sermon's tonight where Rob Radosti asked if anyone was being called to prison ministry and he felt that someone was, I finally had an idea of a safe way that I could possibly help. I am glad that I went because I think it would have taken a lot longer for me to know this. I have felt like this is an area that was lacking in my life for a while....an area where the Bible says you are supposed to be helpful and I have felt a constant pang that I am not. I hope the couple of ideas I am starting to get work. I also thought of the fact that many of us are in prison in some other way.

What do you think of this video? Thank you to @TPOs_Bulldog for tweeting this.

In My Life....

-----Husband is making my brother a Iron Man arc reactor replica....the tiny one that kept Tony alive in the first movie. Brother has said that he will pay for the supplies. Fun.
-----A friend is going to Decatur and we are going along. His band might perform at First Church of the Living Dead...if it is a good fit. I look forward to seeing our friends Tiavi and Leesa who operate the Church.
-----I get to be on the blogging team for Cornerstone Festival!
-----My mother is not going to have a surgery. The surgery would possibly spread the cancer....there is still at least some. She is taking shots so it will not grow....and those shots are working right now. They are not ruling out more chemo, if the cancer starts growing again....but only if she is strong enough (has to do exercises). She has survived a year-and-a-half with Stage 4 Breast Cancer!!! The diabetes is under control and her heart is doing pretty well. Please keep my Mother in your thoughts and prayers.
-----Due to discovering that I had left my deodorant at home and not put it on yet, I had the fortune to switch deodorants. I say this because I wore my favorite black dress shirt....deodorant often leave marks on the material if sweating. Degree Shower Clean is an extra sensitive deodorant/antiperspirant.....it works more when you start to sweat. Not only was there less sweat during my workday but there were no marks on the black fabric from the sweat. I had to use less deodorant, too. I would recommend trying this to any of the women out there who wear a lot of black. (I suppose the PC thing to say would be that as a woman who wears a lot of black and long sleeves even in the summer, I have to take steps not to "perspire.")

In My Life....

-----I am looking forward to going to Cornerstone Festival.  I plan to live-blog.
-----I often run my credit (for absolutely free and without affecting my credit score as it is a "soft pull") at Credit Karma. I am doing things to improve my credit and I am puzzled...it keeps fluctuating rapidly by about 4 points.
-----Speaking of finances, I wish that I could go to BlogHer....someday it will happen. For now I am attending "BlogHer at Home" and happy about the cost vs. going in real life. :-)
-----Our Doggie is going through a odd stage where she acts like she forgot or is confused by what all hand/verbal signals to do tricks mean. The only trick she really wants to do (which she knows impresses people) is "play dead."
-----I think I might be allergic to pineapple....or at least have a sensitivity to it in large quantities. I was sick Sunday/Monday and was finally starting to feel better. Towards the end of the evening Monday, I ate a can of pineapple slices with some poppyseed dressing...and that made me MUCH more sick than the allergies and horrid migraine I already had. I thought that the soy in the dressing was bothering me (thyroid problems....but I can often have some poppyseed dressing). I think that anything more than a tiny amount of pineapple juice now makes me really sick.  I don't even know how to describe what happened.....the most uncomfortable part was the swelling of the goiter (I have Hashimoto's Disease). Maybe it was a reaction to BOTH the soy and the pineapple juice. Perhaps there is a preservative in canned pineapple that I can't have. Whatever went wrong, this has happened to me several times now after eating pineapple with salad dressing.
-----I want to visit my Mother on Sunday.
-----I have started "Secret Shopping"....this is nice because all expenses are compensated and you sometimes get a few dollars extra. Secret shopping and really fantastic coupons (i.e. any free promo I can find)....that is how we dine out. :-)
-----My Christmas Cactus are still acting like they are dying. The just don't seem to be getting enough sun. There is too much wind at times to transfer them to hanging pots outside. Maybe I should plant them in the ground for a while....but I am really attached to them and someone keeps vandalizing random plants that we have outside.
-----We have this (I would assume generic) peanut butter called "Algood." It does not spread well, has little flavor and does not swallow easily. I am hoping that it will do better if I put it on bread and melt it in the toaster oven.
-----I had a mainly tolerable day at work today....I can rarely say this.
-----I have a vision therapy appointment at the end of August. I am cautiously hopeful about this.

More Misc.

-----Untidy beds may keep us healthy. This is good for me since I usually only make the bed when using the fancier blankets (when guests are over or I am motivated to change to everyday blankets before bed).

-----Brain scans being misused as lie detectors.

-----Possible Roman gladiator cemetery found. The article stated that each body was buried with respect...sometimes, I see gladiators portrayed in movies as being respected (and sometimes not).

-----Research on how crocodiles go out to sea.

-----Humpback whales form long friendships.

-----A possible reason some overweight people don't go to the gym. I was reading this and realized that means there are also weight limits on some home fitness equipment. I wondered what the weight limits are....so, I looked up "weight limits of popular exercise equipment."

This post would have been a much longer MISC. posting....like I often do. Then Blogger's ability to publish went down.....during my participation in a 30-Day Blog Challenge. :-(

Another journey through (culinary) hell.... :-)

-----The same basic skills are used each season. I would certainly learn to do risotto, scallops, etc. before going on this show. Indeed, I have instinctively being doing one version or other of risotto since I learned how to cook....practice makes perfect (or at LEAST passable).
-----It is not "cute" to play the "cute factor." :-( Sadly, I have seen others agree with the "cuteness" in online discussions. I understand the motivation to do things like this....but have never done anything like that or even considered it (and before I started having health issues, I was actually considered "beautiful" by most people...so, I could have done this). It is a heartbreaking thing for me in real life as I have exotropia and I see constant discrimination (while my counterparts, who have little experience and no work ethic, are consistently promoted).

-----I am hoping that the woman who laughs and then lies about it is just not aware that she does it. There was a LOT more disrespect of Chef than normal for this first episode.
-----I was not sure that I agreed with the elimination....perhaps I would have looked at how much each person worked (and not just how much people got caught messing up).

Sorry not to mention names or too many specific incidents.....trying to remain spoiler-free. This is my favorite TV show.....I learn a lot from it.

This post is a work-in-progress. :-)

Cornerstone is coming up! Cornerstone is coming up!

I am very excited to be going to Cornerstone Festival 2010....a very large Christian rock festival on a farm in Bushnell, Illinois. I am planning to live-blog my adventures at this fest....that means I have been spending a lot of time figuring out which bands and seminars to see (NOT an easy task).

This is a "high voltage" Rock-N-Roll band....meaning they are loud and fast. I like high voltage rock....when I can still understand the words. Excellent.

-----Flatfoot 56. A Celtic/Punk/Hardcore band that I really want to see more of then I have schedule. I am going to a movie screening that I think is important....so, I will get to see about 10 minutes of Flatfoot 56's performance according to my current schedule. This was DIFFICULT schedule call....I really like songs such as "Hourglass."

I have been thinking about this...."stability."  I will be attending this seminar and I hope to buy the book sometime soon (or borrow it from the library before Cornerstone). I take commitments very seriously. Particularly, I try to follow through on the commitments to different causes and activities that I have on the Internet.....I think this kind of community can be really powerful and helpful. Many Christians speak of their "minsitry"....I think part of mine is continuing to help out where I can in the blogosphere.

The world has many Lords of War.

This movie made me think about loyalties. Watching Uri's (Nicolas Cage) wife in this movie I realized that I would definitely have done something about the situation immediately. Knowing that it would likely destroy my family life, I would make the choice for preserving human life.

I think that Uri's character understands loyalty....he obviously knows how to manipulate loyalty (and I don't know if he truly understands love). Uri thinks that he is acknowledging what he truly is....and maybe he is.....but I don't know.

Uri's brother certainly could have taught him a lot about loyalty....a deeper kind of loyalty.

I also think of the things we look the other way about....and there are so many of these things that we are in denial about in the modern world. Like Uri, we have a lot of  "logical" reasons why it is okay to be in denial.

The last line is chilling....politically and just on a personal basis (considering all the denial that modern society pressures us to engage in).

The many things one can do in 30 days.....

I am participating in the 30 Day Blog Challenge.....where I have to write a blog post every day. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of the other bloggers participating in this challenge....it is always great to make new friends in the blogosphere. I am sure this will have many benefits to my blog. I usually blog daily but the weather and my work schedule has made me ill lately. It will be nice to focus on something positive.

I might try some of the other things I found that a person can do in 30 days. :-)

-----30-Day Husband Encouragement Challenge for Wives If I find all of this one agreeable, I will work on it during the 30 Day Blog Challenge. I believe that encouragement is so important. I think that when people aren't given encouragement it often has bad repercussions in their lives.
-----Pastor issues 30-Day Sex Challenge. I have not read the book that came out a while back that was along a similar idea. This pastor's challenge was also for unmarried people to abstain.

-----30-Day S.P.A. Challenge "S.P.A." stands for slow down, practice selfcare and appreciate life.

-----30 Days of Thanksgiving
-----30 Days of No Complaining This one would be very hard for me because I can't shake the idea that some complaining is constructive.

-----30 Day Gourmet Freezer Cooking I would like to do this at some point. I think it will save a lot of time but also take a lot of time. A good skill to learn. This would be a great project to do for someone who is expecting or has just had a baby.
-----PETA would like you to pledge to be Vegan for 30 Days
-----30 Days to a Food Revolution.   Inspired by Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. 30 bloggers.

-----Surprise Me God: A 30 Day Faith Experiment
-----The 30 Day Leviticus Challenge
-----30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World  I had never heard of this before. I think we should all pray for situations in the Middle East to get better. This site mentions introducing Muslims to the Gospel...I think something like that would have to be handled very carefully and keeping in mind that people ultimately have free will. Why do I mention people having free will?....I do not agree with the tactics that many religions use to get others to come to their viewpoint (repetion, confrontatiion, force).
