It's time to organize the movies.

Keeping track of your DVD library can be difficult. Some of my siblings have been urging me to find software to keep track of what I have....this is what they do. Right now, I am looking at sample software that I downloaded called "All My Movies."

Of course, there are a lot of benefits to having a dvd database. For us this would be helpful not to buy more than one of the same movie. We have accidentally purchased duplicate movies several times....sometimes with no way of returning them.

A nice thing about "All My Movies" is that it downloads movie details for you. To me, this would save a lot of typing. I actually take notes while watching a lot of educational programs...so, I do a lot of typing during/regarding movies. I might actually learn something from organizing my movies. :-)
-I love knowing as many details as I can about whatever I am watching.
-I am trying to figure out whether it operates off a internet movie database or The Internet Movie Database (IMDB).

Things that I potentially like about All My Movies:
-----You can enter UPC and barcodes. The site that I use to catalog my books does this and it has come in handy quiet a few times (for getting an exact match of the item).
-----Can save to mobile devices like your PDA or smartphone. I have just started figuring out how to sync my new phone with things. I hope that the smartphone sync is easy.
-----The software can actually play movies....I don't know how many formats yet.
-----Has a loan manager. We frequently forget who a movie was lent to....and then it doesn't come back until months later (if at all).
-----There are backup options. So, your movie inventory is not easily lost.

Anyway....I will blog about my further explorations of "All My Movies."

Random movies from my Collection:
-----"Weirdsville"....Husband says we liked it, but it was very strange. I do not remember this movie. This is where movie organization software would be very helpful.
-----"Catch & Release"....with Jennifer Garner. Sad movie. Had some very odd moments...like life.
-----"88 Minutes"...with Al Pacino. I liked LeeLee Sobieski in this...she played Joan of Arc well (in some other movie that I can't remember the name of). Good movie...though the womanizing parts were a little overdone (IMO).
-----"The Confessor." Not Christian Slater's best portrayal. I found him more believable as a priest on the second viewing though.
-----"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." A early German expressionist film. Silent film but the script is easily deciphered.
-----"Elvis: '68 Comeback Special Edition." I love the camera work. I think the camera work then was better than much of it now. I really want someone to digitalize Elvis singing Iron Butterfly's In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida....and this would be the perfect film to try to do something like that from.

The wonderful world of Freebies.

I am the Queen of Trying New Things. :-)

Today I sent for:
-----Nature's Family Sun Crystals. A natural sweetener. Only 4 calories. Made with raw cane sugar.
-----Breath-A-Licious Green Bone. For Doggie to try. :-)

Other Freebies that I have sent for this week
-----The demise of the "Wop Burger." I was looking for such. Wop Burgers were mentioned in Stephen King's "Pet Semetary." I do not know if these are the same Wop Burgers as Stephen King's Wop Burgers.
-----Why your ketchup (and a lot of other food items) may have a LOT of mercury
-----Trojan wants customers to take a pledge when they get their free condom sample.

-----The Cartoon Network sometimes shows full episodes of The Clone Wars. Today I am watching Episode 12. The deactivation of the cell bars made me laugh....though I don't think it would really fit into the way the original characters talked. :-)
-----Lucas Film's site for kids

Title: "Busy Bees"
Bees on blooming flowers of a palm tree

It is a difficult year for beekeepers and almond farmers. I had not noticed that the price of almonds had gone down....will have to check that out next time that I go to the grocery.

You can help with observing the bees by joining The Great Sunflower Project. Yes, some sunflowers have pollen and attract bees....I did not know that. If you agree to report bee observations, The Great Sunflower Project will send a FREE packet of sunflower seeds (that may attract bees).

I will blog my bee observations this summer. Next year, we are planning to do backyard beekeeping. I am a little scared of the bees but I really want to have them. This past summer, we had a lot of bees attracted to our butterfly garden. This summer, we will concentrate a lot on expanding our selection of plants that attract bees,hummingbirds,birds and butterflies.

Unusual honey recipes:
-----Coffee poached pears with curried honey. I did not know that curry powder goes with just about any fruit. This is supposed to be a light fruit dessert...suitable for something like Valentine's Day. I am intrigued by the layered flavors.
-----Honey Cake Pudding. A traditional South African pudding.Cake-like. I will be trying this one soon.
-----Polish honey cake

I am also subscribing to a FREE newsletter called "The Honey Feast." This newsletter is published every three weeks by the National Honey Board (goes out via e-mail). The National Honey Board includes an entire meal plan in their newsletter....often complete with vegetarian alternatives. The newsletter sometimes includes tips on cooking with honey and info on honey research. :-)

-----What Co-Operative Farms, Britain's biggest farmer is doing to protect bees. I am banning all but natural pest control methods from my garden....whether harmful or not to bees, definitely harmful to the butterflies.
-----Experiments to figure out the mathematical abilities of bees. I have thought for a while that animals have some mathematical ability. Our Doggie arranges toys in groups and knows when something is missing. I once had to retrieve six toys from under a chair because Doggie knew had put them there but could not reach for self. Our Doggie will also pick the bigger piece of something if more than one is shown.
-----I will try the method of conditioning hair that Catherine Zeta-Jones mentions (at the bottom of article). Of course, I will have to try this method when I have a lot of time off-I do not think the work place would look kindly on the scent. Read what Keith Richards says about manners....wow.

-----Who's watching the imported honey to make sure it is safe? There is quiet a discussion in response to this article...a discussion I am working-my-way-through for some great honey recommendations. :-)

Obama's Addresses.....

What do YOU want to have accomplished this term?
Do you worry about the bills on the commute to work?
Right now, do you feel like everyone in this country can make it if they try?

Are you feeling as hopeful as President Obama is? Recently,I saw a man who had 5 George-Bush-themed bumper stickers.....wondering what that voter's answer is.

Why President Obama did use his full name for the Inauguration Oath. I hope that no violent world events keep him from making his intended speech. Perhaps, Obama's speech could do something historically peaceful....in the Mr.-Gorbechov-tear-down-your-wall-fashion.

It is my intent to watch each weekly address...as well as many of the other speeches that Obama gives. I am hoping/praying that this is a Presidency of ACTION. :-)
-----Is using Google Search bad for the evironment???
-----Carbon offsets for your dorm room
-----Why you should not use cat/dog manure for your garden. I was looking at it as some caterpillars eat dung and we have a dog that would provide a lot of dung.

In My Life.....

-----Yesterday was January 24th. Yesterday, the Christmas cactus that I thought was not going to bloom this year started blooming. I know that the blooming season goes to January.....but WOW. I will post pictures as soon as the blooms get a little bigger. If I remember correctly the blooms on this Christmas cactus are more pinkish (the other one that bloomed is more reddish). This will be nice to show my Mother who loves flowers.
-----I think we are at the end of "more testing." We find out the treatment plan for my Mother's Stage 4 Breast Cancer tomorrow. I am scared. I feel like we are at a peak of a really high mountain....either climbing back down or struggling further up. Not good.
-----I found out that my Raynaud's phenomenon is what they call secondary Reynaud's (meaning that I have it in conjunction with other things...my thyroid issues). I found out that I am not supposed to be stressed because that makes it worse. Not supposed to be emotionally upset....how is that going to happen? I do not like Raynaud's phenomenon.
-----Doggie is very smart. Doggie now knows that "O-U-T" means out. :-) Next, I am teaching Doggie "O-U-T-S-I-D-E."
-----We are planning to rearrange furniture and make a farm fountain in the kitchen. Tilapia are so expensive to buy from tanks at the supermarket here....and they are my fave fish to eat. I would imagine that tilapia are much less expensive when you buy them small. We may make other farm fountains at some point.

Could your pocketbook/insurance/LIFE afford to have to pay up front for major medical treatment????

Learn Hebrew with pictures and audio.

This evening we are watching "Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: Story of Moses." A lot of beautiful artwork and land is shown in this series.

In My Life....

-----Just started experimenting with a new networking site called "Acobay." I like any kind of thing were people recommend items to each other via word of mouth. At Acobay, people talk about their "stuff"...and have conversations with people who have like interests. In the interest of Internet safety, I will only be talking about things I consider Internet-safe.....but this has so many possibilities. :-)
-----Reading "I Love You, Ronnie: The Letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan." The Reagans and the Reeves are the two couples that I really admire out of all the Hollywood couples. I have the book about love letters that Dana Reeve wrote.
-----We had to buy Doggie a new training leash today. Doggie broke the old one and decided to run just out of reach for about 4 or 5 blocks. Husband lost twice while chasing....but Doggie kept making sure Husband was there like a child does when first learning to run. The only reason Doggie was actually catchable was because stopped to explore a fence (with the squirrel that started this all attached). Grand adventure for Doggie....glad it did not end in having to put up "Lost" posters.
-----I am very nervous about my Mother's test results for the cancer that she has. We know it is bad....we will find out how bad next week.

January is National Soup Month.

Recipes That We Are Trying
From AllRecipes.com

Barley Turkey Soup
I need to start stocking-up-on/making chicken broth again. The price of buying chicken broth has certainly gone up....so, I need to look for the sales.

I do not always like the smell of celery in soup and the quality is very poor here lately.....I am going to split the ingredients in the batch in four parts. Soups sometimes don't taste much different when celery is left out of a recipe. I also want to try this soup with cabbage. Plus, Husband and I both usually detest parsley.
This means my 4 batches will be:
-With no celery
-With cabbage instead of celery
-With parsley
-With parsley and cabbage.
The batches will be prepared in that order....so, I don't loose too much to possibly-a-bad-choice-for-us-parsley. Yes, I do have the patience to do something this way. :-)

Other specifics for me:
  • The barley.....I have never seen it at the grocery store.
  • The veggies....will be sauteed first (as many in the comments suggested). I often do this with soup. I will put in tiny bits of all the loose spices when I am sauteeing. At this point, I will also had some minced garlic.
  • The onion.....will be Vidalia. Always our onion of choice. We like the mildly sweeter taste.
  • The bay leaf....we usually leave out bay leaves. I have a lot of bay leafs to use up.
  • If I try this recipe again...I might try substituting a small amount of vegetable broth at some point. Too much vegetable broth usually results in bathroom issues for me.
  • If I try this recipe again...I will do one where I try my 4 batch variations with potato.
I am looking forward to seeing how each of my soup portions smells.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brown Bean Chowder
"Bean" and "chowder" are not words that I have heard together before. I want to see if I can find other Bean Chowder recipes.
I will be serving this with the traditional cinnamon rolls some other time. I have never heard of eating pinto beans and cinnamon rolls together before and do want to try it. First though, I would like to serve this with some sake.
Other specifics for me:
  • Of course, we will use Vidalia onions.
  • If we make this again or have leftovers: We will try it with tortilla chips (as someone suggested in the commentss).
  • I am not really sure if I would like this as a "beans and rice" dish.....but we will try that at some point,too. I am very picky about my rice dishes....particularly with beans.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Apple Bacon Tomato Soup
Again, we will use cabbage instead of celery.

We will use the white onion...as the recipe calls for. If I try the recipe again, I will use Vidalia....just need to figure out if that taste will fit in.

We will serve this with Mozarella on the side. I wonder if any other cheeses would be good on the top.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Other soups we are looking at trying:
Baked Beef Stew
California Italian Wedding Soup
Beef and Wine Soup with Dumplings
Cabbage Goulash
BLT Soup
Brussel Sprouts and Barley Soup
Things You Will Find and Things You Won't:
Stuff People Have Searched My Blog For
-----Will Find:
"Molly Herencia"...I did a September 11 tribute about her. I am sad to say that she passed away in the September 11th attack. I will include Molly in my tribute this year,too. I participate in the 2,996 Voices Project every year.
-----Will Find:
"Val's Art Diary"...all sorts of stuff on this. For instance, the video below. The "chupacabra" comment made me laugh. I think a video like this is a great/delightful alternative to the traditional "Artist Statement."
-----Will Find:
I am in the Fair Tax Fans blogroll. I am not sure if/how one can join this blogroll anymore. The original site that I joined from seems to be down. :-(
-----Will Find:
Discussion of of "Pamela Anderson's Google Dress." Another thing a lot of people come here looking for.
-----Will Find:
Discussion of "shower exercises." I like trying to sneak exercise in wherever I can...especially since I have thyroid problems. Be VERY CAREFUL if you do choose to do exercises in the shower.
-----Will Find:
blogs "breezes resorts"....I would like to go one as part of a vow renewal. Here is what I wrote about Breezes Resorts. I am a big fan of all-inclusive vacations. :-)
-----Will Find:
Women's: The Breakfast Club - The Rebel
Women's: The Breakfast Club - The RebelBuy this T-Shirt at AllPosters.com
This t-shirt was posted as a part of something I used to do on a regular basis...a post called "Hidden Talent Show." What is your hidden talent?
-----Will Find:
"pepsi max bacon"....as I write this I am the top result. My entry about Pepsi Max does not mention bacon....but I do talk about bacon a lot.
Examples of bacon-things-I-have mentioned:
~~~Bacon Bourbon and Coke
~~~Bacon and Egg Bandages (mentioned as a part of a Thursday Thirteen....I miss Thursday Thirteens)
~~~Chocolate-Covered Bacon
~~~Bacon Floss (don't think I would like)
~~~Homemade Bacon Vodka
~~~A blog called "Bacon is My Enemy"
~~~Rachel Ray once made a bacon/lettuce/leek BLT
~~~I like bacon and cheese dip when eating potato chips (I seldom eat potato chips)
~~~Bacon Popcorn
~~~Leek and Bacon Breakfast Sandwich
~~~How to make bacon soap
:-)For all the mentions of bacon....I seldom eat bacon.

-----Won't Find:
"Bejeweled 2 Key"....still don't have anything like a Bejeweled Key,Code or Crack. I just mentioned that I sometimes play the game. I get a lot of traffic as a result of people looking for keys, codes and cracks. Today I discovered a free game similar to Bejeweled called "Sports Smash". I played Sports Smash and my first score was 28,500.

-----Won't Find:
"Music Sharing Coffee Shop"....I am not sure the RIAA would be so happy with that one.

-----Won't Find:
"sfx contact lenses group yahoo"....though I do like 9mm SFX lenses. These are theatrical contact lenses. 9mm SFX has a new "Twilight" lense design.

-----Won't Find:
"Hobbies of Jennifer Lopez." People are often searching for the hobbies of different celebrities.

-----Won't Find:
"Hobby shops in Saudi Arabia"...at least I don't remember ever writing about a hobby shop in Saudi Arabia. I did write about a Bossaball tour that took place in the Middle East...and that is what got me on the first page of results for "Hobby Shops in Saudia Arabia." I would love to play Bossaball.

The above video was of the Bossaball Summer Tour Middle East 2008 (with footage shot in Kuwait and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). There is a Bossaball Club in Kuwait.

-----Won't Find:
"phytonutrients in drumstic"....though I sometimes talk about blueberries. I sometimes link to recipes that have phytonutrients (like a salad and dressing recipe for Tender Greens with Prosciutto).

-----Won't Find:
"Create a virtual crocodile"...I was writing about Steve Irwin and I own "A Virtual Hobby Store and Coffee Shop."

Other things searched for:
"coffee shops stores"
"ONLINE HOBBY STORE CHINA"
"pepsi store"
"bacon pepsi max commercial"
"shop blogspot"
"photos of coffee shops"
"what can be done for the promotions of a coffee shop"
"buy bossaball" and "bossaball kuwait photo"

My corner of the Twitterverse.....

Some of the people that I follow on Twitter:
-----Lifecruiser. One of my longtime Internet friends. I run into her everywhere. Lifecruiser travels a lot (both online and in RL). Looks so prepared to travel in her Twitter Avatar. Loves Dom Perignon....something I have never had. Recommends Dom Perignon Oenotheque 1995 and Dom Perignon 2000.
-----thattalldude.Passionate about rural America...as am I. On a personal note, I also like to bring a little bit of rural America to the suburbs (as in urban farming). Plays the drums...I am not sure which genre(s) of music for. Is enthusiastic and often has something kind to say.
-----mousewords. A writer. Survived carbon monoxide poisoning. I just read about a teenager who recently passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning while at a sleepover. We have a carbon monoxide dectector....but it sometimes gets pushed aside by the guest bed or the dog who tries to eat it. Our carbon monoxide dectector usually is near the floor but in a bathroom (no jokes, please). If you don't have a carbon monoxide dectector, go get one...especially when you are sleeping at the ground level.
-----Shannon Hubbell. Brought up something that I had never thought of before-how many jobs are created by the IPod?
-----Jeff Tippett. Has watched Dark Knight three times. I haven't even watched it once.
-----Micah Alpern. Director of Design for Social Search at Yahoo.
-----ted on twitter.....the founder of Izea. Likes sake. I have asked him for recommendations on a good sake.
-----orchid8. Has problems with cedar pollen. I wish that I knew specifically which pollen I had problems with. I will have to watch the pollen counts for specific mentions of what numbers are high...then chart it all out and figure it out that way.

A post/list-in-progress right now. :-)

Presidential tidbits....including more flying shoes.

-----Bush protest in which many shoes were thrown on the White House lawn. Parts of this were funny. I have had people tell me that people shouldn't have had their children participating in this. I did not like that one shoe made it over the fence.
-----The story of the Lincoln Bible that Obama will be sworn in on.
-----The man who flew Air Force One for George W is retiring from the Air Force. Interesting account of his job over the years. They flew everywhere but Vermont....I wonder why no Vermont...maybe the people that were saying that they would arrest him and Cheney if they stepped foot there.
-----Cheney will be at the Inauguration in a wheelchair. I would assume this was during his move from the house where the Vice-President lives.

Brightstorm...helping this adult, too.

Brightstorm

Online video courses that help with the classes students take while in high school. This can help students to improve their grades. I am seeing if Brightstorm will help with a math-laden-SAT-like exam that I have coming up. Math is my weakest subject area....so I definitely need to brush up on the math that one would take in the later years of high school.

Brightstorm has study guides,practice problems and interactive quizzes. I am hoping that this might help where years of teachers could not. I seem to have some sort of math disability related to visualization (extreme eye problems) and I am hoping something will click....and make a change.

Anyway registration for Brightstorm is free...and there is no credit card required. With registration, you can try out episodes from 19 courses...free. :-)

-----P.S. Why do they have to make us dress like Wise Owls at Graduation????
-----P.P.S. Often we look like Silly Owls at Graduation. :-)

In My Life....

-----I am re-reading "Pet Semetary." I am often against having pets "fixed." I want pets to be able to have the love of having a family, too. Our Doggie is eventually going to have a spouse and/or child purchased as a companion....even though had to be fixed as a condition of adoption. In cases like the cat in Pet Semetary though, I would actually agree with having a pet fixed. My Mother very sadly told me of a cat that she knew who "made it to the highway" the other day. I cannot imagine finding a beloved pet in this condition.....or seeing it happen and having to pick up the remains.
-----I finally got visit my Mother. It had been 9 days....I had a cold (and Husband had a far worse cold). I am very thankful for Zicam...this helped tremendously! I took lots of the fruit chews....yes, Zicam has chewables (not everyone knows about that).
-----My Mother is doing well....for having Stage 4 Breast Cancer,diabetes and a heart attack. She looks wonderful-attached to oxygen and tons of medicines....but wonderful. The oxygen tether, recovering and losing a little weight make her looks so tiny. Instead of giving us a treatment plan, more testing has been ordered. We are all scared. Please KEEP MY MOTHER IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

What Do You Pledge?

MySpace Celebrity and Katalyst present The Presidential Pledge

I found this video on the Huffington Post....here is their post with more info about this video. The video made me think...."What Do I Pledge?" Many of us say the Pledge of Allegiance....but do we do anything about it besides wave a few flags, talk about "the news" (meaning politics), wear some nifty patriotic clothing or celebrate things like the 4th of July???

So I guess figuring out what I pledge is important to me. I do not pledge to look at our leaders as if they are Messiahs.....because they are not. I do pledge to help make the world, and my area of the world, a better place.

More on this later.

-----Glad that my Mother is at least getting out to do shopping. I am sure it is hard to get used to being on oxygen.
-----I am now taking Zicam hoping to get over this cold. I need to be there for more of my Mother's appointments....but can't be if I am sick. I am hoping this works. Zicam comes highly recommended by my co-worker and a gentleman who writes cancer insurance policies for a living.
-----Odd how the world suddenly sends you two people who give you just the right advice...re the Zicam.

-----What are your goals for the New Year?
-----Thursday is President Bush's Farewell Address. I am wondering what he is going to say. I will be listening.
-----January is National Soup Month.
-----Sometime: There is to biographical film about Sam Kinison coming out. It will air on HBO. I wonder if they could get the actual celebrities for the "Wild Thing" video.

What's happening in your life (and on your blog)??? :-)

In My Life.....

-----4 of the old movies that I reserved at the library have arrived. I am going to watch these as I am recovering from this cold. Then when I give them to my Mother she can watch them before bed and we will have something fun to discuss.
-----Eventually, I want to get something like this Iron Butterfly baseball cap....pretty.
-----Each week I will be making my Mother a card with the names of all the people who have her in their thoughts & prayers. I hope this is encouraging. In a long list of health problems, my mother has risk of a second heart attack, diabetes and Stage 4 Breast Cancer. :-(
-----I am hoping that someone finds Laura Garza....a young woman who is still missing. See the top of my sidebar.
-----Doggie is running all over house trying to hide new chew stick....a Bully Stick ( all-natural and made from the meat of free-ranging Brazilian cattle). Doggie is not sure what it is....but has decided it is a treasure. I have actually never seen Doggie attempt to hide something this much. Two of the failed hiding places included my computer briefcase and the Christmas Tree that we took down. :-) It seems like we will be getting more of these. Usually we call chew sticks PigIns...but it applies to whatever kind we get. We are teaching Doggie that these are "Bullys."
-----I am wondering what President Bush will say in his farewell address. I will definitely watch.
-----My Wandering Jew plants are pretty much absolutely dead....after three years of growing well.

Curious as a Cat Meme.....

1) What is the worst thing you have to do each morning?
I will pass on answering this one. The best thing is when Husband decides to bring me tea or coffee.

2) Where is the most spiritual country (or place) on earth, in your experience?
I have no idea....but I look forward to reading the answers of others.

3) If you gave birth today to octuplets (OMG!), what would you name them? You can assume four of each sex, or make your own mix-up.
Again....I have no idea. I did once meet a little boy named Stillbert....that is what I would NOT name any of them.

4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

It reminds me of a woman in a veil trapped in one of those prison discs (Superman). No, symbolism is intended by this answer. I was surprised to see from the photo title that this is a traffic sign.

Gibson

-----Mel Gibson shaved his hair off. The reason/outcome made me smile.I wish there were a picture.
-----I hope that Mel Gibson is doing well in his efforts to remain sober.
-----I read that Mel Gibson was considered to play James Bond at some point. Really? Yes, IMDB says that he was considered to play Bond in 1995's Goldeneye.

More of my life.....

-----I am planning to become my mother's library...via my library card and Amazon. She is very ill and the inactivity/waiting for the various diagnosis is frustrating. My mother is a voracious reader and movie viewer. This is something I can do for her. Almost over this stupid cold so I will be able to do so.
-----A lady I met told me the most fascinating/gross/funny baby shower game. Take small baby diapers, microwave chocolate candy bars in microwave and put the chocolate in the diapers. Attendees must sniff the diapers and then taste to try to guess whether is a KitKat,PayDay,etc.
-----Music suggestions anyone? Music usually cheers me when I am stressed but I have not been able to relax this way lately. Maybe some new suggestions will help.

In My Life.....

-----I watched the latest episode of 90210 this evening. I liked that a lot of the acting was actually VERY good. I was hurt by the lazy eye comment made by Silver...I often (correctly) get the feeling that people see me as inferior/insane/mentally retarded because of my eye problems. Part of the way that I know that people actually do see me this way (not some paranoia) is that people have purposefully or accidentally let me overhear their comments...and some have made them directly. I am now NOT very fond of the character named Silver. She is so pretty....but mean.
-----I am doing coping with my Mother's Stage 4 Cancer diagnosis. We do not find out until next week what the timeline/course of treatment will be. This is a SCARY wait. I have been thinking of things that might make my mother happy...whether it is a long road or a short road, I want it to have its great moments. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
-----Seriously considering getting a phone with a QWERTY keyboard. I do a lot of praying/advice getting/friendship/advice giving/comparing life on Twitter. I think being able to Twitter on the go without dragging a laptop around might be helpful. When my mother was in ICU I was so glad to find a computer to Twitter prayer/worries. I was afraid to bring the laptop as even those that work at the hospital think it is best not to bring anything considered of value.
-----I think it is a sad world that we live in when one can not have anything of value safely at the hospital. I have personally seen loved ones who had some treasured piece of jewelry (or other item they normally carried) just devastated by the fact that it is at home.Something that they always wore/carried until entering the Hospital Zone. :-(

My mother is my first client......

One of the business plan secrets that I have been sitting on for a while is that I want my coffee shop to be a not-for-profit or charity that helps GREATLY with the people/needs of my community. I did not want to give too many details to competition and did not feel confident enough to say I was going to undertake such an ENORMOUS task yet. Now, the time has come for me to just do it anyway....both online and where I live in RL.

Sadly, my mother was diagnosed with a string of things in the past week.....the initial diagnoses all came in ONE DAY. Notably, she has diabetes, had a silent heart attack and today's biopsy confirmed that it IS BREAST CANCER....STAGE 4 BREAST CANCER.

Maybe I can inspire my mother in whatever time she has left. My mother has not seen as much as of the world as your average adult....not at all. I think the greatest present us children could give her is to see us living our dreams and to help her experience as much of what she enjoys as we can.

I do not know how long my mother has to live....may find out next week. I am scared. If a co-worker had not MADE my mother go to the hospital for breathing issues....DOCTORS SAID WE WOULD HAVE LOST HER BY THIS WEEK. When one is scared is sometimes the best time to start actually living one's dreams.

Part of our coffeeshop (sort of Husband's, too) will benefit terminally ill people. Ideally, we would like to show them the world before they leave this world....think of it as the world in a Reader's Digest abridged addition. My mother, a voracious reader, would love that last comment.

What do we want to do for the terminally ill?
Find out what would make them truly happy...and do what we can
Accept donations of any kind that might help in even the smallest way
Give them a place to hang out (when they can)
Give them something pretty to look at.....artwork,etc.
Raise money to help
Vsit hospitals in costume (childrens' wards)

Your ideas, thoughts,etc. are much appreciated. PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP MY MOTHER. I want to start both an online store and a RL store that will do things like this. The RL store will be the coffee/hobby store that I have always talked about. So will the online store.

My heart is telling me that I need to accomplish this all as QUICKLY as possible. I did not know that my mother would be my first client. :-(

Boggle Me Thursday....

The rules for Boggle were extended a little this week. You can include two letter words, names and abbreviations.
Details on how to play this meme.

This week I found the following:
zoo...I really want to go to one at least this summer.
ivy
seo...as in SEO content on a blog webpage.
ox...thinking of Paul Bunyan.
on
nod
Zoe....the name
yo....as in the greeting, "Yo,Dude...how are you?"
yon....hither and yon
don....to put on
nook
Don....the name. I counted don to put on and Don the name as being different
OK....Are you OK today?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bonus points are given for making a sentence out of as many words as possible. I am more exploring the words....which makes me smile. :-) :-) :-) This time, I am exploring zoos.
Zoo:
-----There is a zoo called Lazy 5 Ranch near Mooresville,SC that sounds charming. It is kind of a safari petting zoo.
-----Panda draws blood for the third time. It will be obvious from the article why no one has even dared to suggest putting the poor panda to sleep.
-----Zoos have a yearly inventory time, too. The meerkat photo really makes you think of a census or roll call. I wonder what the meerkat will say his occupation is. :-)
This post is a work-in-progress right now. :-)
Dreaming of an all-inclusive vacation.....
Husband and I are planning a Nova Scotia/New England/Canada cruise vacation. Someday or other I also want to take a cruise to somewhere warm. Today I have been looking at the Breezes Resorts webpage....for a land vacation/vow renewal honeymoon. :-)
Breezes is not just all-inclusive....it is "super-inclusive." Super-inclusive means that it also includes drinks and many activities...something that a lot of the resorts and cruises don't do. Super-Inclusive means that you don't see your wallet get smaller with each activity. Super-Inclusive means that you don't have pending stress....as in, "how am I going to pay later for the fun I am having now?"
I love the idea of resorts....it gives you a temporary Home while exploring to your hearts content. You get to create your own adventure.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I actually find myself interested in the Jamaica All Inclusive Resort...and I have never seen myself as a Jamaica sort of person. I would actually love to sometimes be around the tourists....but mainly go off and see the beautiful land. It was the swarms of tourists part that has never made me interested in Jamaica. I love taking pictures of beautiful landscapes....and the Breezes description made me realize that Jamaica might be perfect for me....the landscape is so varied.

What I would do in Jamaica:
-----Go horseback riding. Everyday. Get to know the area pretty well. Eventually, Husband and I would have races with some silly prize that we agreed on.
-----Get a camera capable of taking underwater pictures. Bring/buy props for the closeups of Husband and I. If we have children at the time, parent/child underwater photos can be particularly beautiful.
-----Deep-sea Fishing. I would bring my own soundtrack to accompany this experience.
-----Dolphin Cove....encountering dolphins. :-)
-----I have a tendency to convert people to making rum cakes...I have inspired this in more than one person. Definitely, touring Appleton Estates (and any other rum makers that we can find).
-----Seeing things to do with coffee....Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee. :-)
-----At least learn a little about Bob Marley.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clearly I am a big fan of romantic vacations...and it's no fun if you don't do things that make you happy while vacationing. Hence, I always try to think of things that would truly be fun for Husband and I.
Speaking of romance Breezes offers some beautiful Caribbean Weddings...they provide a simple,classic wedding for free (of course, you can pay for a more elaborate wedding). What I have in mind is a vow renewal. I really like vow renewals...Husband and I actually participated in one at a marriage retreat shortly after we got married. Oh....and I looked, Breezes does allow vow renewal certificates to qualify you for the honeymoon package! I think that means that they do a vow renewal ceremony similar to a wedding. I will be furiously e-mailing as usual to find out all about this. :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I wonder if Breezes has anywhere where they allow Doggie. I will have to look that up. I never thought of having Doggie boarded nearby while on vacation...but that is actually a nice idea.
Note to self: Must look this up for each Breezes resort (and the surrounding area).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the sometime in my lifetime list is a trip to the Bahamas. :-)
What would I do there? Again with the fishing (likely for my supper)....but I would also take a submarine ride. I would of course find out all the historical facts on the particular submarine. I would have my first Tweet/blog post from a submarine if this were permissible.
Note to Internet photo scavengers:Photos for this post were used with permission. I wouldn't be copyright naughty if I were you.
In My Life.....
-----Husband is working on some sort of statue that requires 5 pounds of Sculpey. I don't know what he intends to do with it. Doggie is working on a plan to attempt eating a statue that requires 5 pounds of Sculpey.
-----I have not been able to go see my mother in the past week. She is recovering from a heart attack and coping with many other health issues. Husband and I both caught something like a cold at the hospital.
-----We are waiting on biopsy results for my Mother. Please keep my Mother in your thoughts and prayers.
More on the porn.....
Previously I wrote:
-----China Cracks Down on Internet Content.They are not talking about voices of dissent (like those angry over tainted milk). This is content that might be damaging to children and young people. What do you think of this?
Thomas responded:
"Doing it for the children" is what censors always say.
I would hate to see internet content reduced to only those things that would be appropriate for a hypothetical unsupervised ten-year-old.
I responded:
Doing it for the children....what they say now. It used to be that censors just outlawed anything not in sync with whatever image was wanted.
Parental controls and children only in the company of those that have long been trusted by the family.....that is definitely needed.
Still....many times I will leave a "news" site when I see all sorts of photos like that on the borders.
____________________
MORE ON THIS ISSUE:
China says it is to stop people like the woman who became Internet-famous by posting homemade porn videos of herself online. Some are wondering if this crackdown is a pretext for something else. I don't know......maybe I would agree if other types of sites were eventually bannned.
Anyway:
The crackdown on porn sites may not be that easy.
So much is published on the Internet so quickly. One might suggest that each thing published should be approved by someone.....but that is getting much closer to censorship. I wonder how companies are going to up their efforts on monitoring content....is there a staff in the world big enough for this? My blog would either be much more concentrated (like a newspaper) or I would be VERY frustrated if I had to get approval before each publication. What do you think would help make regulation of content easier?
Now I don't know if it is the same woman, but there was a woman in China who made some Internet-famous porn at her workplace.....and was fired/jailed. The crackdown on this activity didn't necessarily help....she was offered a paying job as an pornstar.
In My Life.....
-----Husband was reading an article about how caffeine may help stop cancer. His first thought on this was that everything else they put in pop causes cancer. Life is strange.
-----I have a copy of Robin McGraw's new book on the way. :-) Robin McGraw is Dr. Phil's wife. I am excited because it is about a woman putting her health first (at times). I will be giving this book to my mother when I am done with it....in hopes of inspiring her to a fulfilling life despite health problems.
-----Doggie is so cute when asleep.
-----I have a sample of some Best Bully's chews and treats on the way. I am hoping Doggie likes these.
-----"Why Dogs Can Sense Fair Play" I could have told you that dogs have emotions without having to do scientific research. :-) This article though made me much more sensitive to what my dog is "telling" me.
-----I still have many people looking at my blog for cheats/codes on Bejeweled 2 Deluxe. I have played the game....I do not cheat at the game. I am not sure what would make it more fun by having cheats/codes. It's a fairly simply game. I would assume that codes have to do with bypassing registration. Why would you want a cheat for this game???
-----Husband is pricing rocksaws for making jewelry. They are expensive. 700 dollars. He found some lapidary grinders that were 400 dollars. Husband said that he thinks under 2000 dollars for a whole lapidary setup is good.
-----I am thankful to all the people online (and in RL) who have kept my Mother in their thoughts and prayers. She is walking around more.....though can not walk around without the oxygen yet. We are waiting for biopsy results. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. THANK YOU.
Bossaball
Bossaball Summer Tour Middle East 2008 (with footage shot in Kuwait and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). There is a Bossaball Club in Kuwait.
I wonder how long it takes to learn to play that well. I really want to play this at some point....and will be on the lookout for an opportunity. I can't really do gymnastics though....but I suppose the trampolines would make it easier.
It certainly doesn't take long to set up for playing for Bossaball...the website says that it takes about 45 minutes. I am not sure how much it costs to own/rent such a setup....or if rental is possible.
-----I like the song in the Youtube video. I sent off an e-mail to find the name of the song (and the artist). :-)
-----I wish that there were Bossaball Clubs here in the United States. I would travel to play at least once....and join one when it became more available.
Impressions
101 Impressions. I haven't seen this before...or at least I don't remember it well. I probably have seen it....as the young man seems familiar. Anyway....fun clip.
Mentioned in the video:
---Scott Stapp...leader singer of the now disbanded band Creed. According to his website, he is now touring currently on the Armed Forces Entertainment Tour of the Middle East and Europe. I think that the tour actually ended in October or November 2008....something like that, if the Wikipedia entry on Stapp is correct. I can not tell what the young man in the impersonation video is saying when he does Scott.
-----Max Wright....the actor who played Willie Tanner on Alf. I can't find any mention of him doing anything involved with acting recently.Remember how Wright had such a resemblance to Oliver North's lawyer that they did a spoof about it? I remember that the costume did not fit Alf well.
Misc.
-----China Cracks Down on Internet Content.They are not talking about voices of dissent (like those angry over tainted milk). This is content that might be damaging to children and young people. What do you think of this?
-----Ozoni Soup...recipe for one of the main dishes served during the Japanese New Year's celebration. I don't know how to pronounce "Ozoni" yet....but I have Twittered twice to see if anyone knows as things like exact pronunciation matter to me.
-----Have you got your 3D glasses for a special Super Bowl film trailer yet? Here is where to get the glasses.
-----I love the outings on this blog....they just look so enjoyable.
-----Interesting video on non-verbal communication
-----What not to do when stealing hotel towels
Pepsi Max
This commercial is a lot different than past commercials. Times have changed as to what is allowed in commercials. I know that the still to start the commercial has a woman's chest....but this commercial does not have exactly the content one would expect from such a still. What do you think of this commercial?
I guess one of the ladies in the commercial is model Kelly Brook. Pepsi actually has a way to get racier images of this model via mobile phone. Again, a different-sort-of-action for a soda pop company to take.
I have not had Pepsi Max and do not know what is different about it. The most I have ever seen of Pepsi Max is a co-worker drinking a can...once.
Pepsi Max is a low-calorie beverage and it is sugar-free. (Thomas mentioned in the comments though that there is a lot of caffeine).
_______________________
-----Pepsi Max Big One.....tallest ride in the UK.Rollercoaster. I downloaded a video of a front seat view of the ride. I have never been on a coaster where one was looking down at driving cars....would be different to me. This made me realize that I should (carefully) use my video camera at amusement parks. Here is a nice view of the Pepsi Max Big One at night.
-----Is it okay to drink Pepsi Max while breastfeeding?
_____________________
Did your mother take photos of you breastfeeding?
Do you think breastfeeding photos on Facebook should be allowed to show all parts of the breast? Would you consider such photos obscene or unsafe? That is a LOT of people who want such photos to be allowed on Facebook.
Misc.
-----Currently there are 11 full episodes of "The Family Guy" on Hulu.
Right now I am watching the 100th episode special.
-----I did not at all approve of the Syrup of Ipecac part....doing that could really make someone sick. As a matter of fact, my online friend Thomas left a link to the Wikipedia page in the comments....Syrup of Ipecac is NOT something that parents should keep in the house anymore.
-----I think that Seth McFarlane has a really neat voice.
-----Stewie (the baby) is not voiced by David Hyde-Pierce. I believe that was a joke...and Stewie is voiced by McFarlane.
-----I have drug a book that I haven't read in a while back out..."Take It Personally: A Globalization Action Guide." This is by Anita Roddick (the founder of The Body Shop).
-----Jeb Bush's father would like to seem him be President. I have seen polls where some people would like Jeb to be President. Everyone I have mentioned this to would definitely NOT like Jeb Bush to be the President.
-----We watched the movie "The Happening" this evening. This is the version with Mark Wahlberg. I did not really get emotionally attached to any of the characters and did not like the ending. Alan Ruck looked much older as the principal. He played Ferris Bueller's best friend....but now the 10 years age difference between Ruck and Matthew Broderick is evident to me.
Today.....
-----Today my mother came home from the hospital....with oxygen, pills and detailed instructions. Please keep her in thoughts and prayers. Her heart is getting stronger but we are awaiting the results of a biopsy (for a LARGE growth).
-----Today, this man was talking about the Chinese. He said that they believe in Baby Jesus (referring to some Christmas item on clearance). He said Baby Jesus brings the Chinese money. They make Baby Jesus and he brings them money. I wish I had not heard this.
-----Today, my mother-in-law sent me dinner. That was nice.I still have the gravy left over. I LOVE homemade gravy.
-----Today, I finished my glass of mead that I put in the fridge from New Year's Eve. I was so worried that I never did finish drinking it that night. Just as well as I have had my body not metabolize a glass (just a glass...and not a big one as I have thyroid medicine) of alcohol properly when I was extremely stressed....it would not have been good to head to my mother's angiogram on New Year's Day burping mead.
-----Today,I learned that some people use colored glass beads when they go ice fishing to attract fish. The couple who told me this said that the husband had gone fishing with all sorts of fancy equipment (sonar, etc). The man with the fancy equipment was catching nothing but a man by him was catching all sorts of fish. The secret was the colored glass beads used as lures.
-----Often,I am hoping to go to BlogHer 2009. I will keep on trying to find ways to do this.
The New Year Goals (and a little beyond).
Well....let's see. I have a list before me of 101 things to do by 2010. This is a list that I have been working on since 2008. Some of them are achieved and now I need to go through and re-evaluate. I am made fun of for such lists....but I have achieved a lot that I find worthwhile in my life.
I have achieved a lot that others would find interesting,too ....if they would stop making fun of me long enough for me to mention any of it. Yes, the last few sentences were directed at a situation that makes me sad.
Anyway....stay tuned as I revise my list. :-)
