Jay Bakker officiates at a same-sex marriage. I know that Tammy Faye was very tolerant...treating people like people no matter what activities they engaged in. The article talks about how Tammy Faye would be happy. I have never heard of Tammy Faye saying that she approved of gay marriage or sexual relations though.....just that the GLB community had been very kind to her during the time when her family was ostracized. Jay Bakker officiating at same-sex marriages was a surprise to me.

Jay Bakker's preaches in a bar, and he specifically targets the people he feels are left out of the mainstream. I'm not surprised he's going out of his way to minister to gay people.
I was just surprised that he was officiating.
A friend (who knows Jay) told me Jay basically says that there is nowhere in the Bible that is against gay relationships. Having read the passages that many Christians say point to an edict against gay relationships....I differ in viewpoint.
I also was surprised that Tammy Faye would have agreed. As far as I knew, Tammy Faye felt that gay people were some of the most kind in the face of scandal. I don't remember ever reading that she approved of sexual relations/marriage of gay people. However, I didn't live with her so I don't know.
Anyway....don't take my stance as an indictment against gay people. Like Tammy Faye, I feel that there are many wonderful people in the world who happen to be gay.
I think Jesus would have ministered to gay people (and those in bars, too).
I am not trying to minister to gay people when I post here....just covering issues and making some observations.
Religion and sexual orientation are areas that I feel people have to make their own decisions on how they feel. Trying to convert people might be that final straw that pushes them to hate (on both sides of the issue).
I do believe that Tammy Faye would be/was proud of what a compassionate young man she raised...one who stands up for his beliefs.
Thanks for your thoughts. :-)
